I've had this grinder for a little over a year and have been happy with it. At first it wouldn't grind on the espresso setting. After several tries it starting working and hasn't been a problem since. On the fine setting it grinds plenty for a double espresso in 12 to 15 seconds. On a coarse setting it grinds plenty for a full pot of coffee within 15 seconds. There is no static mess with the glass container and the non-slip rubber makes it easy to handle.

I bought the machine about four months ago and am very pleased with it. I'm giving it a 4 rating because it's a little difficult to figure how to use and machine construction is light weigh. Once you get the hang of it it works easily and light weight doesn't affect grind quality. The best part about this machine is the grind quality. I use a French Press, a Moka Pot, and a regular filter drip "Mr Coffee" pot. I think it was worth the price and I'd buy it again at this point.

I bought this about four months ago and I'm very satisfied with it. I'm giving it a four because ease of use is awkward and it's a light machine. The best features--grind quality and its fairly quiet for a grinder. I use it for a French Press, Moka Pot, and filtered drip coffee. Works good!

Just bought the grinder yesterday and returning it today. Instructions state that you have 20 seconds grind time and then wait 5 minutes for the next grind cycle. The 20 second grind time causes the 160 Watt engine to heat up and the bean feeder must be emptied to help the engine cool EVERY CYCLE. So the static mess that the very nice glass receptacle wonderfully avoids is nullified by the abysmal mess the constant filling/re-filling causes to allow the ‘powerful’ engine rest and cool. Not bad but the first grind at espresso setting yielded BARELY a little over a Teaspoon or 5ml. Although the grind looked good and the glass receptacle had no static at all, it took about 30 minutes to grind enough coffee to make a double shot. Great idea with the rubber sleeve no-slip on the receptacle and a good seal feeding the ground coffee into the boroscilicate glass but the grinder is useless if the engine has such pitiful output and cannot take continuous use. Probably ok for one person to make one cup at a time with some patience. I called customer support 5 times and as soon as I stated I was having issues with how much the unit ground at a time, they hung up on me. If they had answers to what I was doing wrong, I would recommend this device but poor output and No service means only frustration. Life is too short to wait so long for good coffee and be able to entertain friends and family. Please pass this grinder by unless you are hermit.

I also am wondering if this will work with a Gaggia Classic. I have the pressurized basket, but I've lost the tiny plastic tip that comes with it. I'm currently using the regular basket which gives me great shots and would like to stick with it. This grinder is in my price range. If Tiago Proenca had good results it would be great to know.

mjackson ♦ Thomas,

It may work with your machine. It will work best with a non oily espresso blend, or a non dark roast blend. It certainly will work with the pressurized basket. It is worth a shot.I think you may see different thoughts on using this grinder, some may say you should look at at least the Gaggia MDF. I would certainly try it.

Can I get a good espresso shot using this grinder with my Gaggia Classic?

Thanks,

mjackson ♦ Tiago,

It may work if you do not use a dark oily coffee. If it does not work well get the Gaggia pressurized filter basket. This will really help if you do not have a fine enough grind. http://www.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia/ga_pressurized_filter_basket.cfm

I was just looking at this grinder today! It says that it can grind fine enough for espresso but what is your expert recommendation?

mjackson ♦ Shawn, It will make a fine grind. It will really depend on if you use a pressurized basket or portafilter. If you use that then yes it will work reasonably well. If you use a commercial portafilter and basket it will not be able to get you where you want to go. You may want to consider a Gaggia MDF, Rocky or a Baratza Preciso. These grinders will work well with a commercial style set up.

What's the best burr grinder for a french press. I'm leaning toward the Bodum, but I'm not sure. Also, what's the difference between a conical burr grinder and a flat burr grinder. Thankyou, Kelley.

mjackson ♦ Kelley,

That grinder would work well for french press and I would also look at the Capresso Infinity burr grinder. Here is an article that will help you understand the difference between flat and conical burrs.

mjackson ♦ Jose for the machines you are talking about which I am assuming are stove top espresso machines, you would want to use a fine grind coffee in order to make a good espresso.
