We owned this press for about 2 1/2 months when the interior parts disintegrated. Until that point it was great. Stay away from this one.

The Unbreakable Hugo features polycarbonate glass liners for those who may be a little clumsy before their morning coffee. This stylish press takes advantage of Bon Jours revolutionary dual-action filter lid. One side of the lid contains a stainless steel mesh filter, eliminating coffee grounds from entering your cup while you pour. The opposing side has a heat-insulating shield that retains the appropriate temperature of your coffee. The shield also prevents any splashing during the brewing process. Removing the lid, filtration rod, and screen allows you to use the unbreakable glass carafe as a microwave safe container with a rubberized easy grip handle. The Hugo comes in 3-cup (12 oz) and 8-cup (32 oz) sizes.

The French Press cup measurement is different than the US cup measurement. A French Press cup is 4 ounces of liquid, so in a 3-cup press, you can make 12 oz of coffee--roughly the size of a normal coffee mug. So, a 4 cup press with have a 16 oz capacity, an 8 cup press will have a 32 oz capacity, and a 12 cup press will have a 48 oz capacity. This is a uniform measurement among all French Press manufacturers.

To brew with a French press, you will put the ground coffee and hot water in first, and let it steep for 3-4 minutes before using the plunger to separate the ground coffee from the brewed coffee. For detailed instructions on this process, please follow the link below to our article on the subject.

For French press, any coffee will work as long as it has coarse grind! If you are grinding your own beans, make sure you set your grinder at a high or coarse setting. A drip or espresso grind will just result in a mud like substance at the bottom of your coffee cup. Also please check out the French press article on our website, the link is below.

The best way to combat "mud" in your cup is by using a coarser ground coffee similar to the size of sea salt. However, there will always be some sediment that seeps through. You should also keep in mind that the standard drip coffee grind will be too fine for use with a French Press, and will create more "sludge". The smallest French presses we carry are 3-cup models, however, it is important to note that 3 French press "cups" are equal to 12 oz of coffee - about 1 mugs worth. This is a standard measurement across French press manufacturers. If youre looking for a French press that makes 1 mug of coffee, I would recommend taking a look at our 3-cup models like the Bonjour Unbreakable Hugo, Bonjour Eiffel, and Bonjour Monet.
