Once you're ready to brew, the Espresso Pressure Gauge, anchored in the center of the BES830XL, gives a quick read that will indicate when the machine has achieved the pressure needed to extract a great shot.

Not only functional, the BES830XL makes for an attractive addition to the kitchen counter. With its professional-grade die-cast metal exterior and simplistic design, this Breville model is sure to turn heads for many years to come.

Bonnie F Jeannette I'm having trouble getting a rich robust espresso. Also, after turning the power on and letting it warm up I stilll don't find that the pressure guage increase much at all. Is this normal or is it operator trouble?

Mark Jackson Bonnie, It could be your grind or the freshness of your coffee. You may also want to try running some water out of your grouphead before brewing the first shot as that will heat everything up. It is hard to say exactly what the problem is with out actually seeing the whole process. If your gauge is in the range it should be I would not worry.

David Simms I have used this machine but the one I used has recently broken and needs replacement Would you get another? Is the Breville model with the built in grinder going to be more reliable?
4:34 PM 9-10-11
Mark Jackson David, They generally seem to work well and I would suggest getting another one if you really like it. I would also look at the Gaggia machine as a good durable well priced machine as well.

Matt Yonker Hi, I have an older Starbucks barista machine that is finally dying. I'm looking to spend around $600ish on a machine without grinder. I have a decent grinder here already. Do you have any favorites is the semi automatic class? Thanks, Matt

Michael Rosso Matt...I would suggest you look at the Gaggia Classic. It is tried and true machine that should give you many years of service. It is at a great price right now. Thanks.

Michael Rosso Angela...Thanks for your interest in the Breville BES830XL. This machine comes with a single and a double shot basket. So you can brew two shots of espresso at the same time. Thanks

Isaac Bendayan Hi Mike, thanks for your answer. what if I'm using pre-ground Illy espresso coffee? should I assume it's the tamping or can it be something else? Thanks again!
4:55 PM 4-28-11
Michael Rosso Isaac...More tamping pressure should help. Check out our website for the "Golden Rule" video and see if this helps. Thanks.

Isaac Bendayan after I make coffee the grounds come out very wet. what am I doing wrong?
6:12 AM 4-28-11
Michael Rosso Isacc...Your coffee is most likely not ground fine enough or you are not tamping with enough pressure. I would suggest you try a little finer grind, a bit more tamping pressure or a combination of both. Thanks.

Jeff Ward What size tamper should I buy for this machine?
8:41 PM 3-23-11

molly higgins does this make regular coffee?
4:10 PM 12-8-10
Mark Jackson Molly, Good question. It is really designed to make espresso. But it can make an americano. You just brew a espresso and add hot water to it. It then is very similar to a cup of coffee. If you you only want coffee on demand you may want to consider a single serve coffee maker. You may also want to consider a super automatic as it will make an espresso or a cafe crema which is very similar to a cup of coffee. I actually enjoy the cafe cremas a lot of he super automatics like a Gaggia Brera which is on sale. See the link here - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia/gaggia_brera_blk.cfm

Althea Sullivan does this unit have an automatic steamer option so I do not have to use a thermometer to gauge the temperature? If it does not what brands and models have that feature. I heard Gaggia has one that is reasonably priced.
4:02 PM 12-6-10
Mark Jackson Althea, You and I talked and as we talked about there is not a device on the steam wand that senses temperature and then shuts off the steaming process. It can be monitored by using a thermometer, or some people do it by touch. I hope this helps.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!
