Features

The Jura-Capresso Impressa F9 Super-Automatic is a coffee center luxurious in looks and capability. An LCD display and touch screen are the highlight of the F9, showing you all of your brewing options at a glance. This main brewing panel allows you to customize the cup size and strength (by adjusting the coffee dosage between 5 and 16 grams) for every drink and clearly displays your choices as you make them. Each of the cup size buttons are fully customizable through the programming menu that also features settings for temperature, auto on, auto shut off, and allows you to choose between 7 display languages. In addition, a second set of brewing buttons allows for brewing up to two 8 oz cups at a time – grinding, tamping, and brewing a full 16 oz in one brewing cycle.

Your brewing options are further enhanced with a bypass doser that accommodates preground coffee. The bypass sits on the top of the Jura-Capresso Impressa F9 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine, which is constructed of the same silver ABS plastic that envelopes the 8 oz bean hopper and 6-setting internal conical steel burr grinder on the right side of the machine and frames the tinted removable 64 oz reservoir on the left. These sides meld into the 3mm chrome alloy front panel where the mutli-colored LCD display, control panel, adjustable coffee spouts (which can accommodate cups up to 4 ½ inches in height) and Dual Frother Plus are positioned for easy access. The Dual Frother Plus will dispense both hot water and steam, and swivels for easy use with any sized frothing pitcher. Also included in the Jura-Capresso Impressa F9 Super-Automatic Espresso Machine is a Claris water filtration system to filter impurities from your water before they reach the internals of the machine, and pre-programmed rinse, cleaning, and descaling cycles, all of which help to keep this machine running beautifully for years to come. Every Jura-Capresso Impressa F9 comes with a 7 gram coffee scoop, a Claris water filter, a cleaning tablet, and a water hardness test strip.

Getting Familiar

There are 3 main sections of controls on the F9’s chrome alloy front.

Sitting above the adjustable brewing spouts (which can accommodate cups up to 4 ½ inches in height) is the LCD touch screen with 3 cup-size selection buttons on the left (big cup (preprogrammed to dispense 8 oz), coffee (5 oz), and espresso (2 oz)). The “st@rt” button, which commences the brewing cycle, is in the center, and 3 strength selection buttons are placed on the right (mild (pictured as 1 bean), normal (2 beans), and strong (3 beans)). To the lower left of this control panel are 3 pairs of buttons, starting with on/off and rinse on the top, 1-cup and 2-cup in the center, and “P” (programming) and bypass on the bottom. The 1 and 2-cup buttons are also used for brewing, but are slightly different than those in the touch-screen. The 1-cup button settings for coffee strength and size are programmed through the options menu (accessed by the “P” button), and the 2-cup button simply doubles the amounts that are set for the 1-cup button.

When you press the “P” button to enter the option menu, the brewing buttons in the touch-screen vanish, and two touch-screen arrows appear around the LCD display so that you can navigate the various options. Besides programming the options for the 1-cup button, this menu also lets you program the liquid volume for the 3 cup-size buttons on the touch screen, choose between high and normal brewing temperatures, activate the Claris water filtration system, set the time, program when the machine turns on, and select if you would prefer to manually turn off the machine or if and when you would like the Capresso F9 to shut down automatically (between ½ and 9 hours after powering on). Furthermore, this menu provides options to control the amount of time that steam is released from the machine (between 3 and 60 seconds) and how much water is dispensed (between ½ and 16 oz). Hot water and steam are released by using the third set of controls that are located on the right side of the front panel. Here you will find the steam button (which initially heats the machine to steam temperature and when pressed again releases the steam), the hot water button, and the Dual Frother Plus that is the exit point for either the hot water or steam.

Top of Page

Getting Ready

Preparing the machine for use is a quick process that the F9’s LCD display will walk you through.

Simply turn the machine on and it will give you your first direction: fill the water tank. After this, the F9 will instruct you to press the hot water button, which will pull water through the machine and dispense it from the Dual Frother Plus steam wand. Then the machine will heat up, perform an automatic rinse cycle, and then indicate that you’re ready to brew. You need to fill the bean hopper at this point, but don’t worry – if you do try to brew without putting in beans, the machine will tell you that it needs to be done. You can also take this opportunity to adjust the grind setting according to the type of beans you put into the hopper. Using the grind adjustment knob located in the bean hopper, Capresso suggests using a finer setting (indicated by smaller dots) for light roasts and a coarser setting (larger dots) for dark roasts.

Although the instructions explicitly mention not to insert the Claris water filter prior to priming the machine, if you are going to use the water filtration system, it’s a good idea to set it up immediately after the initial set-up. To do this, you need to place a Claris filter into its appointed space in the reservoir and then activate the system through the programming menu. Similar to priming the machine, initiating water filtration will require that you follow the directions on the screen to pull water through the filter and machine, to be dispensed through the Dual Frother Plus. By activating this option, the machine will know to alert you when the filter needs to be replaced. If you won’t be using the Claris system, instead of activating the filter you should use the included water hardness test strip to test your water and program the results into the water hardness option in the menu. This will allow the machine to determine the amount of water that can pass through the machine before it will alert you to descale the Jura F9.

Making Your Drink

Earlier, we discussed adjusting your grinder depending on the roast of the beans you’re using, but this setting is also relative to the type of drink you want to make.

Generally, you’ll want to select a finer setting for drinks with a small liquid volume like ristretto (around 1 oz), espresso (2 – 2 ½ oz), or long espresso pulls (up to about 3 ½ oz), and a coarser setting for a higher liquid volume, the most popular of which is café crema (usually between 5 and 7 oz). With its coarser grind setting, café crema is similar to drip coffee, but produces a much fuller flavor thanks to the machine’s pressure brewing system. Before you make any changes, keep in mind that grinder adjustments should only be made while the grinder is running.

Now for the best part: brewing. This can be accomplished in two ways: by using the touch-screen buttons, or by using the 1 or 2-cup buttons. To brew using the touch-screen buttons, first select the liquid volume with one of the pictured cup buttons. Then select your strength with one of the bean buttons and press the “st@rt” button until the grinder begins grinding your beans. The “st@rt” button is on a 1-second delay to prevent the machine from starting a brewing cycle if you’re simply cleaning the touch-screen, so you will need to hold this button down to begin brewing. Alternatively, you can brew by simply pressing the 1-cup or 2-cup button. Pressing the 1-cup button will cause the machine to brew using the programmed settings for this button, and the 2-cup button will double both the liquid volume and the amount of coffee that are programmed for the 1-cup button. You can also brew using preground coffee in the bypass doser by pressing the bypass button, and then using either the touch-screen buttons or the 1-cup button. This is a great feature if you sometimes like a cup of decaf in the evening, or if you would like to use a flavored coffee. (Please note: using whole bean flavored coffees can cause problems with the internal grinder and is not recommended.) After brewing is completed, the spent grounds are automatically ejected into an internal dump box where they are kept until you remove and empty the box.

Topping it Off: Frothing & Steaming

Making a cappuccino? A latte? An americano?

Then you’ll need to use the Dual Frother Plus to finish preparing your drink. For an americano you simply need to add hot water, so just place your cup under the frother and press the hot water button, and hot water will be dispensed into your cup. The F9 can be programmed to dispense between ½ and 16 oz of water by using the “P” button menu. In a similar manner, this menu also offers options to program steam to be released for between 3 and 60 seconds. To heat the machine to steam temperature, press the steam button. When it has reached the correct temperature, an indicator light next to the steam button will illuminate. Pressing the button again will release steam from the machine, so you’ll want to have your frothing pitcher in place before doing so. The Dual Frother Plus makes it easy to either steam or froth your milk; the frothing sleeve should be in the up position for steaming and the down position for frothing. If you finish frothing before the programmed time is up, you can simply press the steam button again to stop it from being released. However, if the time runs out and you would like to continue steaming, you can just press the button again to release more. When you’re done, wipe the outside of the wand with a damp cloth to remove any stuck-on milk and press the hot water button to release a bit of water to flush out anything stuck inside.

Top of Page

Shut Down

If you’ve set a shutdown time for the F9, it will automatically run a rinse cycle and turn off after the programmed time (between ½ and 9 hours) has elapsed.

However, if you have turned this option off, the machine will remain on until you press the on/off button to power the machine down. The rinse cycle will also run automatically if you turn off the machine manually.

Top of Page

A Word About Care and Maintenance

The quick frother cleaning that we discussed before is one of the few things you’ll need to do on a daily basis to keep your Jura Capresso F9 running smoothly.

In addition to this, you’ll also need to empty the drip tray and the dump box that spent grounds are collected in. The machine will alert you when the dump box needs to be emptied, but it is a good idea to do it a little more often, as leaving the grounds in the box for an extended amount of time can allow a little bit of mold to grow on the damp pucks.

With the F9’s automatic rinse cycles, the machine does do a certain amount of preventative maintenance, but any remaining oils and residues will need to be cleaned from the internal portions of the machine periodically. The machine will alert you when a cleaning cycle needs to be run by displaying a message on the LCD screen, and is as simple as placing a cleaning tablet in the bypass doser and following the instructions that also appear on the LCD. Calcium deposits also accumulate in the machine if you’re not using the Claris water filtration system, and will need to be removed through a decalcification process every couple of months. Again, a message will appear on the display screen when this needs to be completed and will walk you through the process. If you have activated the Claris system, you will receive a message to change the filter rather than to descale the machine.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

I purchased this several years ago and it truly is a wonderful machine. The build quality, fit and finish, is excellent. The machine heats up via a 24 hour clock so it's ready for you in the morning. It's grinder is quiet compared to two others I've owned. It makes the perfect cap, latte or espresso and even Americana every time. The key is to buy the beans that you love. For us, it's Starbucks Espresso roast and only from the company store. The stuff you buy at the grocery store tastes a little different. Shelf life maybe? We have only two small issues with this machine. The built in clock/timer does not have a battery backup option. so, if there's a power failure... The other issue happens once every two or so years. The black rubber coupler that holds the frothing wand to the machine softens over time. The pressure can then blow it off while steaming your milk. If you call Jura USA in NJ, they will send you the replacement part at no charge. They've done it twice for me now. In two more years, if they don't send me the free part, I know they will send me a whole new frothing wand for $15 shipped. I'm just fine with that because it is an excellent machine. After a certain amount of beverages are made, an indicator will let you know it's time to clean the machine. We buy the genuine Jura cleaning and descaling products that just don't really cost that much considering how long they last. Cleaning is a very simple process. You press and hold a button, drop a tablet in and the machine does all the work. This is such an important detail. After you've cleaned the machine, it really does taste better. I highly recommend this machine. You won't be disappointed!

I bought this machine refurbished from this site and the steam pressure never worked well, so I called the company's service line and they volunteered to replace the refurbished machine with a BRAND NEW one, including return shipping! No questions asked. So I cannot say enough about the service. The machine is a real work horse and gets heavy daily use. No problems, the espresso and lattes are great. The regular coffee function is great for those who do not like espresso all day (silly people). Would most definitely buy again.

Look on the internet for Impressa F9 and Malfunction 8...this is the code it throws when it --regularly--stops working. You can clean it manually and get it going for a little bit, but eventually it'll come back. Capresso (the manufacturer's) response is: "no problem, easy to fix, just send us the machine and $250 and you're all set." After dong this 3 times and limping along the rest of the time with it going frequently into Malfunction 8, I've given up. A product this expensive shouldn't require an annual $250 service. (If you only use it for the occasional dinner party, probably no problem. But if you want a regular espresso/coffee maker, be prepared to shell out the dough.)

I have owned my F9 for several years now. What an awesome machine. It's a very attractive addition to our counter and at this point, 6700 cups of coffee later, still works great. If it ever gives out on me, I will definately buy another jura capresso machine again. Probably anoter F9. Anyway, I would highly recommend this machine to everyone!

I purchased the JC F9 two and a half years ago. Thousands of espressos later and I can say that it is worth every penny. In fact - it may be my favorite appliance in ourmhome. Not only does it make a perfect latte for my wife and I every morning, but it has saved us over a thousand dollars in Starbucks costs. Its sleek stainless steel exterior is attractive on our counter-top, and it is easy to use, self cleaning, and very easy to maintain. It truly does give us a lot of joy and I recommend it to anyone who loves coffee. Another plus (though it was not at the time) the first machine we got was a dud, but Jura Capresso and Wholelattelove customer service is fantastic - they sent us a NEW machine ASAP, along with all the packaging to pack up the old one. A perfect experience.

My husband bought the F9 for christmas gift, it is the mid. of Jan now and after 3 phone calls we are sending it back in for repairs. , and warr. is only 15 day for a re-furb. machine. and over a 800 dollar machine, i think is bad news. We can't even trade in , for a higher price machine. bad news again. The little it did work i did love it. but the warranty really stinks.

A nice step up from the C1500. Setup was quick, and Video really helps. Bought the auto frother and it works great. Using Illy coffee, this machine rivals the best cup of espresso that I have had ( a little bar in Barga, Toscano, It.)

It is much quieter than the C1500.

I ordered my refurbished Jura Capresso F9 on Sunday, it arrived Wednesday afternoon. I was hesitant to order a refurbished machine but did not want to spend a fortune on my first superautomatic machine. All I can say is this machine rocks! It only took me a few minutes to get it up and running and my first cup was awesome. My wife felt it was going to be too complicated for her but her first experience without me went off without a hitch. Now I want one for the office.

We started out with the F7, but exchanged it after 10 months for this model. The quality of coffee on both models declined significantly after 6 months, and began tasting bland. There were many malfunctions on the F7, and after 6 months, we are beginning to experience many on this one.

I have been making cappuccinos for about 5 years. I have used super-automatics and semi-automatics, including some very cheap semi-automatics. After my Gaggia synchrony Compact died. I was looking to take a step up in quality. I bought a Capresso F9. All I got was luke warm espresso measured at 137-139 degrees F. This was after running the rinse cycle. I have been on the phone twice with Capresso and have all of the settings where they need to be. I was told by Capresso that the machine would not produce foam that would stand up on a spoon. The pictures in their ads seem to indicate otherwise. My F9 produces less than half of the foam as my other machine with the same 2% milk.

I bought a refurb. and I was a little nervous lots of money for something used. Well I have only had 1 cup of espresso and I am super excited. The shipping was incredible. I bought it on Sat and received it on Fri. I had bought White Mocha sauce on October 11th I still haven't received that :(. I am a White Mocha drinker and I am broke from it. I am hoping this will help save some bucks. I am super picky and I will only have white mocha but lately they have been tasting like cigarette butts it is the coffee and it tastes horrible everywhere I go. I tried my first drink without white mocha sauce and I loved it a little equal and vanilla powder and milk and 2 shots of espresso and whala I had a good drink. So for today I am going to review this thru the roof hopefully I will get even better drinks:) Good luck to everyone and if you have suggestions for coffee beans (good ones) post them please

I have had my refurbished F9 for a week now (ordered from WholeLatteLove) and have pulled at least 30 espressos and haven't had the slightest bit of trouble. I did read the directions and view the DVD first. I followed the first time setup directions to the letter and I have to say it was incredibly easy. I found the directions to be clear and helpful and the DVD shows you exactly what to do. The comments about the coffee not being very hot are true. For my lattes/capuccinos though, I just steam the milk twice (each time is 60 sec) and it is perfect. For my husband's "big cup" coffee, he just steams the coffee once or twice. I was concerned about the amount of plastic on the machine. I knew I would be using this thing a lot, so really debated on getting one with more steel. The machine seems to be very well made and I am really not at all disappointed in the plastic. The water lid doesn't sit completely flush, but really doesn't bother me a bit. The drip tray doesn't fill up all that quickly, but each time you make a coffee, some water/coffee bits do go into the tray, so do check it from time to time. Also, when the machine shuts off, it does the rinse cycle and if you don't have a cup under the spout, the water will go into the drip tray. Not a complaint at all - just an observation. I keep a cup under the spout. I have been very dedicated to wiping off the frother after use and running some water through it to make sure no milk bits get stuck. I have also been good about making sure it gets a rinse cycle often. Frother can be a bit noisy -- but is only for 60 sec at a time and sounds authentic. I haven't played much with changing the aroma or grinder setting - I really liked the coffee at the factory settings. I absolutely adore espresso, but wouldn't consider myself all that particular about it. I really haven't met an espresso I didn't like!

What's Best About this Product?

This machine makes it ridiculously easy to support the most compulsive coffee habit. The programming was easy as can be and using the machine is even easier. The machine looks so great in my kitchen.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

I had read all the posts about oily beans clogging grinders and worried a bit as I had already bought Starbucks Espresso Roast and couldn't wait to try it. The directions said not to use frozen beans and if you have oily beans, to let them sit out for a few hours and the oils will evaporate (doesn't affect taste). I have done this and haven't had any problems at all with Espresso Roast or French Roast Starbucks beans. Empty the pucks/grounds on your roses - mine love it!

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

The only improvement I can see is the steamer/frother wand is a bit flimsy. I am a bit afraid I will break it when I clean and move it -- but I am also pretty hard on things. A couple of nits that border on complete laziness on my part - it could hold more water and beans (but I would still have to refill them at some point anyway!) And a totally lazy item on my part -- having the wand go low enough so that I don't have to hold the cup underneath it - so I could just set the cup on the counter, hit the button and let it steam. I know, totally lazy not wanting to hold the cup there for 60 seconds. My husband likes the "big cup" of coffee, but it only goes to 8oz and he'd like a fuller cup -- we might just set it to 5oz or something and he'll have to hit the button twice. Oh well -- again totally small nits.

After 1500 cups, I can say this is typical Swiss quality. I have had numerous coffee machines at work and home and this is by far the best. I do not consider myself a coffee fanatic but do like different coffee and grappa. Having spent time in Europe and Italy, I've found those Italians make the BEST coffee and Swiss/Germans are the best at mechanical equipment. Illy coffee has a high oil content and I had a problem with the machine pumping coffee. I thought I had a problem with the pump and called customer service and they asked me what kind of coffee I used. When I said Illy, they told me it was very oily and to reach up inside and clean the tamper with a paper towel. I now wipe it as general maintenance when I dump the grounds and dont have a problem but Illy is the only coffee that I had this problem. I also had a problem with my stomach which I think was caused by the high oil content too. Tastes great - bad side effects. It mentions oily coffee in the book but doesn't tell you you should clean the tamper (inside the machine above the grounds tray). Dunkin doughnut coffee is cheaper, tastes great and doesn't clog the machine or me.

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

1. Price - The Swiss aren't know for low margins. I agree that the service could be better based on the price. THis is not a cheaply made or cheaply priced machine but I expect fantastic service if there is a problem. I am not sure that I would receive that. Internet ready is also a joke - what would you want that for? Someone please enlighten me. 2. Clock - What does a battery backup that saves the time cost? Every $399 PC from dell has one. A great feature is that the machine has a clock and can turn on at a time and then turn off after 1,2,3,etc. hours (you set the parameter). If the power goes out, you have to reset the clock. HELLO Jura Engineers! - you must enjoy your VCR that flashes 12:00 after a power outage. Not really that bad, because it doesn't display the time but still a nuisance to reset the time - $1799 and no battery backup on the clock - C'mon

We have been very happy with machine - my husband and I use it almost daily for latte's. Sometimes use it for parties. Have found that type of coffee makes a big difference! Machine has performed well for over 2.5 years. We keep the machine clean, use a filter and use the cleaning tables when told to. Just recently I've noticed that the touch-pad is acting up, ie. will not respond when touched. Had to turn machine off and back on to get it to work. Have contacted Capresso and waiting on a response.

I have never been hip on swiss products but the joint venture between Jura and Capresso hit this one dead on...Even better than the Swiss army knife, even though Sweden doesn’t have a army.. I took a chance and bought my machine for 1100.00 us dollars as a refurb..I have had my eye on the F9 for two years now and have done extensive research prior to my purchase. The unit has a stylish appearance with chromed stainless slats dressing out the front of the machine. The sides and back are molded out of ABS plastic and seem solid. The water revisor can hold up to 64oz of water and is removable with a handle. The unit does NOT have the ability to be hard piped or plummmed. I use a dark espresso roast, which is very oily, and unlike others I have NOT had any problems with the grinder being able to handle the beans. Eight setting are available to adjust the coarse of your grind. The touch pad on this machine rules. It seems to be thermal sensing rather than touch. All you have to do is lightly put your finger on the desired cup setting and the machine gets down to business. The aroma settings are actually the strength of your coffee. The machine is pretty user friendly and purges itself with 1oz of water when you cut it on and off to keep the system clean and free of oil buildup. The boiler is stainless lined and takes about 20 seconds between coffee and steam mode to recover.. Also the unit contains a bypass door for flavored and pre ground coffee…The unit is simply ingenious and hopefully last for years to come

I purchased the F9 almost a year ago. The first machine was dead on arrival. Whole Latte Love was very quick to replace the machine with no expense to me. A few months later, the machine was occasionally air locking, causing an incorrect amount of water to be used during brewing. After five calls to Capresso, they finally agrred to replace the machine. I received the new machine two weeks after they agreed to replace it. I also was notified to return the broken machine at my expense. This would not have bothered me so much if this had been a $75.00 Mr. Coffee, but when I spend close to $2000.00 for a coffee maker, I feel that the level of service provided by the manufacturer should be second to none. Again, last month we had the same problem with the machine, it consistantly air locked. After several calls to the Capresso Customer Service Center (or should I say lack of customer service center) in New Jersey. I was informed that the machine was off warranty and any repair would be at my expense. I argued with both the Customer Service Rep and the supervisor Mr. Rodriguez that they replaced a defective machine less than 6 months ago and it should still be covered under warranty. Mr. Rodriguez advised that they go by the original purchase date and not the date that they actually shipped a replacement. After spending nearly and hour and one half on the phone with Capresso, we decided that the machine was not worth the constant hassle. The machine was discarded after only 6 months of use and a Saeco was ordered. What a piece of junk.

This is an excellent machine and works very well. My wife and I both love it and use it every day. The crema coffee is wonderful and the espresso is better than I can find at any local coffee shop. My wife is now addicted to lattes and rarely orders them outside the house since they no longer meet her standards. Probably the best thing about this type of setup is the consistancy. There is no guess work and I know I'm going to get a good cup of coffee.

What's Best About this Product?

The ease of use and maintenance. It's a very simple machine to operate and doing a full clean takes only a few minutes. In fact, I can clean the entire F9 in the time it takes to clean my drip machine. With the F9 I don't have to do that nearly as often.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

My wife enjoys lattes so I got the FrothXpress add-on for her and it works very well. I'm usually only making a single latte and a normal pitcher setup would be more than I want to deal with. Steaming milk with the FrothXpress is really easy and doesn't require much clean-up. The order process from WLL could not have gone better. They answered all my questions before I ordered and have since done several other orders with the same results.

The price is high but it's well made and works very well. You can see where the money went. The geek in me is looking forward to playing with the connectivity kit. I wish it brewed just a little hotter. I seem to get a little better cup of crema coffee after making a latte due to the steam heatup of the system. A DVD instead of a VHS tape would be nice. I had to dig out the VCR just to watch it. :)

how do I get stronger shots? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • In order to get the maximum strength/flavor from your machine, follow these steps:

    1. Depending on your machine, increase the fineness of your grind by changing your grind setting to a low number or small dot.
    2. Reduce the water volume to 2 oz.
    3. Adjust the amount of ground coffee used for each shot (up to 18 grams at the maximum setting).
    4. If you want to brew more than 2 oz, press the brew button twice and the machine will go through 2 brew cycles automatically.

How do I make a hotter cup of coffee? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • You can increase the temperature of your drink anywhere from 10-20 degrees by adjusting the machine’s temperature settings and ensuring that all of your brewing components are preheated properly:

    1. If your machine has adjustable temperature, enter into the machine’s menu mode and choose the temperature setting you want.
    2. While in menu mode, verify that the rinse mode is turned on. The rinse feature runs a quick dose of hot water through the brew spout upon startup. This helps to warm up the internal components of the machine, and also rinses away any coffee build-up that might alter the taste of your espresso.
    3. Run water through your hot water spout and into your cup. This accomplishes two things- It helps to preheat the internal components and it heats the cup as well.

If you're talking espresso, and using ceramic cups, pre-heat your cup. 1 oz of espresso in a cold cup = 1 cup of tepid espresso.

What's the difference between the E8 and F9? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • You are correct, the Capresso machines will give you the option of adjustable dosing between 7-16 grams. The versatility is endless: you can pull 1 or 2 shots, 1 or 2 double shots, 2 double shots or any other combination up to 16 oz of coffee at one time.

In addition to the display screens, the main difference between the E8 and F9 is that the E8 does not offer temperature control or the energy saving mode. The two machines also have very different aesthetics. The F9 features a 3mm chrome-alloy front panel, and the E8 has black ABS plastic housing.

Can you program it to turn on and make a drink? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • All three of these machines can be programmed to turn on at a specific time, however, they cannot be programmed to brew and/or steam milk for you without you controlling these processes. Unfortunately, none of the machines we carry will have the ability to brew and steam without you beginning these processes yourself. My recommendation would be to stick with one of these machines (as Jura Capresso is the only manufacturer we carry that provides the auto-on option), have it turn on before you get up (to let it heat up and everything) and then brew and steam yourself. Any of these machines will come equipped to steam milk - there is no extra attachment necessary.

F9 vs. S7, S8 and S9 click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The only feature the F9 has over the S7 is the touch screen display and chrome front panel. The S7, S8 and S9 have a higher capacity and have two boilers, one for steaming and one for brewing. The dual boiler system allows you to go back and forth from steaming to brewing with zero wait-time. Temperatures of the S series can also be adjusted to almost 10 degrees higher than other supers.

I don't want my coffee too strong, should I buy this machine? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The F9 will not make drip coffee but it will make a wonderful cup of coffee. One you taste it you will probably not want drip again. The strength of the coffee is easy to control. You can control the amount of coffee that the machine will grind and brew along with how much water it will run through the coffee. You have two options on how to brew a full cup of coffee. You can brew a Cafe Crema or an Americano. A Cafe Crema is made when you run a whole cups worth of water through the ground coffee. This can be easily programmed to be done at the push of a button. Or you can make an Americano. An Americano is made by brewing either a single or double shot of espresso into your cup and then adding hot water to dilute it to make a full cup of coffee. For more information on what drinks can be made with this machine please see our drinks recipes article.

Is the brew group made out of metal or plastic? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • All super automatic espresso machines have plastic brew groups. This is primarily due to the moving parts, resistance to the acidity of coffee as ease of cleaning/maintenance. For the record, we rarely have problems where the brew group plastic has failed. More likely we find the motor powering the unit is at fault, but even this is a rare occassion.

What is crema coffee? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • You are right, crema coffee is a long espresso extraction. Simply run set the volume control for 6 ounces or even more and use your Super Automatic espresso machine as a regular coffee maker - with much better flavor due to the pressure brewed method.

Question Submitted by
Coffee is not as hot as my old Semi Automatic machine. click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • During our performance testing we found that all of the Super Automatic machines brew at about the same temperature but the F9 is one of the hottest. The temperature at the outlet of the spouts ran between 170 and 174 degrees F. Super Automatic machine are designed completely different than the Semi Automatic machines. They both brew at the proper temperature to get a good extraction of the flavors and aromas from the ground coffee. But the path that the water has to take on the Super Automatic is longer and some of the heat is lost to the brew group, spouts and the interconnecting tubing. If the machine has been sitting for while in between brews, it would help to push the rinse button. This will rinse out old coffee and pre heat the brewing components. And of course a well-preheated cup is always a plus.
