Essential Info:
The Capresso MT 500 is designed to cut down on brewed coffee’s exposure to air. The machine brews directly into a stainless steel, vacuum tight carafe. The efficient, 10-cup drip coffee maker features a digital touch pad to simplify programming. The Capresso MT 500 can be set to brew up to 24 hours in advance and features an automatic shut off. It also uses “drip stop technology” to pause brewing long enough for you to pour a cup of coffee. Brewing resumes when the carafe is replaced.
Controls:
Instead of buttons or knobs, the Capresso MT 500 uses a touch pad control system. This small innovation makes it one of the easiest coffee makers to program. Numerals are clearly displayed and the touch pad is large enough that you don’t need to have tiny fingers to press the buttons. "Drip stop technology” lets you pour a cup while the pot is brewing and the “small pot setting” lets you enjoy consistent flavor with smaller batches of coffee. The LCD display alerts you to change the water filter after either 6 weeks, or after the brew button has been pushed 60 times. The water level indicator, located on the right side of the machine, uses a floating red ball for high visibility.
Performance:
This is a machine that does everything well. It brews quickly, preparing 10 cups of coffee in about 8 minutes, and the carafe is exceptional in retaining heat and coffee flavor. The machine is also noteworthy for the quiet brewing process. Overall, the Capresso MT 500 is a well-above average machine.
Construction:
A high gloss metal alloy body makes the Capresso MT 500 a particularly distinctive and attractive machine. The housing is specially treated to keep its luster and simplify cleaning.
Carafe:
The Capresso MT 500 brews directly into a stainless steel thermal carafe that helps retain heat and flavor. The carafe’s lid creates a tight seal that helps to keep coffee hot for up to 4 hours. It is necessary to brew with the lid on and in the closed position. When the lid is on properly it depresses the drip stop button, allowing the machine to brew. It will not brew at all if the lid is not on or is not closed. A dot on the lid indicates the proper positions for brewing and pouring. When the lid is closed, you can virtually turn the carafe upside down and not spill a drop. With a simple twist, the lid releases and you can pour without a drip.
Hot Plate:
The thermal carafe of the MT500 eliminates the need for an actively heated plate. The heating element of the machine is located under the carafe’s platform, causing it to retain some heat. This will not affect the temperature of brewed coffee.
Reservoir:
The water level indicator is easy to read; it uses a very visible floating red ball. The machine’s charcoal filter is easily inserted into the reservoir, which holds 10 cups of coffee. The unit stands close to 14 inches high with the reservoir lid closed. Having the lid open adds a few more inches, which means you may have to slide the unit forward to fill the reservoir if it is sitting under a cabinet. The machine is light enough that this does not pose a problem.
Water Filtration:
According to Capresso, the MT 500’s charcoal filter removes up to 82% of impurities. The filter is smaller but slightly plumper than a tea bag and fits easily into a small compartment in the reservoir. During the first few uses, the filter will “bleed” slightly, so the manufacturer recommends running hot water through the machine before you brew your first cup of coffee. An electronic indicator reminds you to change the charcoal filter. It will alert you after the brew button has been pressed 60 times or after 6 weeks, depending on which happens first.
Coffee Filter:
A goldtone filter is included with this machine. Using the scoop provided by Capresso, the filter will hold a maximum of 12 scoops of coffee.
Accessories/Re-order:
Water filter re-order forms and an informative instruction booklet are included. It also comes with one charcoal water filter, a coffee scoop, and a goldtone filter.
