Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central
My coffee maker has started leaking water when brewing. There will be at least one cup of water that ends up on the counter. Can I do something to stop this other than replace the coffee maker.

Essential Info:
Control is in the eye of the coffee drinker. For some, you can never have enough dials and buttons. The Cuisinart Brew Central is a sophisticated 12-cup coffee maker with numerous controls that enhance every phase of the brewing process. The machine has an LCD clock/timer to program brewing up to 24 hours in advance, as well as a 30 second “Brew Pause” feature to let you pour a cup while the a pot is brewing. It stands 14.25 H x 8 W x 8.5 D. The Cuisinart Brew Central is distinguished by its sleek design, featuring brushed stainless steel. It is available in Stainless Steel/Black or Black Metal.
Controls:
A smart coffee maker gives you options where it counts. The Cuisinart Brew Central certainly delivers in this area. All of the features are easy to use, and many of them, starting with a 30 second “Brew Pause”, which interrupts brewing so you can pour a cup, and a clock/timer, to program brewing up to 24 hours in advance, are increasingly standard features on coffee makers. It must be said that the controls are evenly spaced on the front of the machine, so it’s clear at a glance what each button or dial operates. The machine can be set to brew 1- 4 cups, or a full 12-cup pot. If that isn’t enough, there are also 3 settings to control hot plate temperature and a shut off function can be programmed to turn the machine off anytime after brewing, from zero minutes up to 4 hours. Another control light intelligently blinks to let you know when it’s time to clean and decalcify the machine. The Cuisinart Brew Central also signals that brewing is complete with a series of 5 beeps. A retro looking flip switch is the main power control, adding a nice design accent to this machine’s overall contemporary look.
Performance:
Your reaction to this machine will probably depend on your feelings about control features. It may take some time to realize and utilize all of the options available. In terms of brewing, the performance of this model is considerably above average. A full 12-cup pot brews in under 12 minutes and the steam that gathers in the carafe shows you that the carafe’s lid fits securely to retain heat. Maintaining this heat is easy with low, medium, and high hot plate settings, allowing you to fine-tune the final product to your liking. Programmable on and off options automate the brewing process, giving you less to worry about and more time to enjoy your coffee.
Construction:
The Cuisinart Brew Central’s construction is inspired by the industrial look of commercial equipment. The machine is solid and stylish with a rounded contoured look, slightly softer than some of the faux commercial designs of other home coffee makers. A single lid gives you access to the coffee filter, reservoir, and water filter. The cord storage area has a plastic piece that guides the cord into the back of the machine. This is a very solid and durable coffeemaker. The on/off switch has a unique retro design that gives the machine an extra ounce of style.
Carafe:
Attention to detail extends into the design of the carafe as well with the Brew Central. Some might argue there’s no substitute for an insulated carafe, but the vented lid on the 12-cup glass carafe fits snugly to hold steam to retain heat and flavor. The carafe is clearly marked with a fluid level indicator. Its large plastic handle is ergonomically designed to provide a sure grip.
Hot Plate:
An adjustable hot plate. Who knew? The scratch resistant hot plate has a non-stick coating. More remarkably, the heat level of the hot plate can be controlled with 3 different settings to keep the brewed coffee at your desired temperature.
Reservoir:
You won’t have to guess how much water you’ve poured into the reservoir. The reservoir features a stepped and raised fluid level indicator with clearly visible numerals along the inside wall to help you measure water accurately. The reservoir is deep and easy to fill without spilling water.
Water Filtration:
For a machine with so many smart features, it’s not too surprising that a water filter is included. The charcoal polybag is smaller than a teabag, but slightly more plump. It fits snugly in a compartment that is set in the reservoir.
Coffee Filter:
A goldtone filter is included with the Cuisinart Brew Central. You can use a #4 paper cone filter if you prefer.
Accessories/Re-order:
The Cuisinart Brew Central comes with the basic accessories. A plastic coffee scoop, a permanent goldtone filter, and a charcoal polybag water filter are included along with coffee and water filter re-ordering forms.

After my latest cheap coffee maker died less than two months after purchase, I decided to invest in a more expensive and hopefully better one. I bought the Cuisinart model #DCC-1200 from a local store, who highly recommended this model as reliable and hard-working. “Almost everybody who works here, owns this model!” the salesperson told me. We’ve owned it about a year now, and we’ve been very happy with it. It makes one cup as easily as twelve. I like having an option between using the gold filter or paper filters. (I eventually realized we were using so much water to clean the gold filter after each use, we switched back to paper ones.) It has a gentle “beep beep beep” alert when your coffee is done brewing, which is handy. It has a separate option for turning on the burner heat on early, so even a one- or two-cup brew session stays hot. It doesn’t look too dirty if you forget to clean it every few days. There are, however, a few design problems with it that seem so easy to fix, it’s frustrating that Cuisinart hasn’t addressed them. And they all deal with water. Pouring water into the reservoir is hard because the water only goes in on one “side”, and the opening is narrow. Lots of spills. The carafe (a replacement carafe, by the way, costs almost half as much as the entire machine, with shipping—what’s up with THAT??) drips when it pours. We previously had a Black and Decker model (an earlier model lasted five years, the replacement model is the one that lasted two months) had a no-drip carafe—which never dripped! How hard would it be for Cuisinart to do that?? The worst water issue, though, is that condensation from the brewing process collects on the lid of the machine. And when you raise the lid to replace the filter/add water, it all drips off OUTSIDE the carafe and onto your counter surface. If you don’t stay on top of this (and with three young adults in our household, there are many things they don’t stay on top of), you will end up with a sizeable puddle over time. Yuk. Why couldn’t the lid hinge set INSIDE the reservoir, so the water just dripped back into it?? If these are the sort of things that would drive you mad, this is not the coffee maker for you. Otherwise, as I said, it’s been a good, reliable product.

Brews one cup as nicely as twelve, gentle alarm when done brewing, burner pre-heat option keeps 1-4 cups hot.
Use protection if your counter surface won't tolerate standing water.

Improve the carafe so it doesn't drip. Make the water reservoir opening bigger. Align the lid differently so condensation drips back into the reservoir instead of onto the countertop.

I am a coffee snob. This is the first coffeemaker that actually lives up to my standards! Coffee tastes rich and smooth. Others have commented that it's hard to use--I don't see the problem. We had a Krups before this (which lasted only 3 yrs and made mediocre coffee). I found that one harder to use b/c the so-called water level indicator was virtually unreadable and often got air bubbles in it so you couldn't see what the actual level was. I gave up fighting with that after the first couple of pots. So I've been used to using the carafe for measurement. I pour in the amount of water indicated on the carafe, then check the numbers in the back and add a little more. It's much easier to read than the ridiculous indicator on the Krups. I'm also used to sliding out the unit so I can fill it. No problem. It fits perfectly under my cabinets with lots of room to spare. The unit, including the carafe, feel study and well made. I love the retro look along with all the modern features. Best coffeemaker I've ever had, as well as the best looking. Hope it lasts a long time!

I am a huge coffee drinker and understand that my 2 pot a day habit wears on these machines. However, I have gone through 4 in the past 3 years, they just give up after a while and I pull out my old trusty standby. My daughter and her husband have the same machine, they've had it for 6 years and it's still fine. Caveat Emptor

After 4 years this coffee maker is still going strong. Occasionally the warmer turns off after the brew cycle, probably the age showing a little. Still brews a great cup of coffee. No other complaints other than the usual about the small opening for the water.

Morning life deteriorated rapidly when the Krups went kaput. Didn't quite like the styling or endurance of that unit, and resorted to using a mini Black & Yucker while researching a new Salvation Maker. I'm cheap, and found this Cuisinart to be just the deal for the price -- brews very tasty Lavazza, and I love the features. The water intake area is small, but I'm not so uncoordinated that this is an issue, even in the morning.

The consistently good coffee......and the style of this black coffee maker lends retro-ish good looks & texture to my kitchen.

I hate to be the negative one, but my coffee maker has "bit the dust" after 2 1/2 years! I was spoiled with fast coffee making with a Bunn in the past. This coffee maker is SO slow. The cleaning mechanism on mine didn't work well at all. The brew time started around 15 minutes when we first got it, this week it's up to 90 minutes! When trying to clean the machine today, the water gushed out the bottom of the unit. I called the company and they're sending me a new machine (I pay for mailing both ways which is $20.) I'll probably give the new one away as a wedding gift!!

I did like the taste of the coffee. The water evidently brews hot for a good flavor.
Interestingly, I always used filtered water...I'd recommend that for all coffeemakers.

Either mine was a lemon, or they need to really improve on the brewing time and their cleaning mechanisms.

Even though I love this machine, I find the water resevoir aggravating. It is so small that it makes it difficult not to spill any water when pouring, and also, the design of the glass carafe could be more efficient. A water measuring pitcher included with this machine would help. Also, I let mine get dirty, and now, even though I have changed the filter and cleaned the machine, It no longer makes a full pot. Most of the water is lost through steam, which warped my wooden cabinet door above the machine. The machine seems to get dirty too easy. I am now shopping around for a different machine.

Don't let it get dirty. Faithfully clean it out every 2 weeks if you are a daily coffee drinker.

The coffee is fine. I don't like: (1) not having a water indicator on the outside (2) having a narrow opening in which to pour the water and (3) the plastic collar around the carafe that prevents water from completely draining when drying. I don't use the timer or heating element. All in all, not the best choice for me.

It makes good coffee.
Fill the carafe with water to the desired level and pour into the machine. Reading the marks inside the reservoir is a PITA.

A wonderful product, highly reliable. It makes consistently good coffee, heated at just the right temperature. The only annoying thing about it is when you make a 12 cup pot, the grounds splash back to the shower head requiring a bit more cleaning effort than usual. (A minor complaint!)
Less than 1 month
Consistent quality of coffee, ease of cleaning, ease of use, footprint and style.
Always check to make sure that the filter holder is firmly set after sliding the pot in to prevent overflow problems. It happened to me once because I lifted the pot as I was placing it on the hot plate and bumped the holder up without noticing it.

Distance between grounds and showerhead could be increased, reducing or eliminating splashback.

I am very happy with this machine. It makes great, consistent coffee and all of the features are useful. I guess the resevoir could have a larger opening but I don't think it is much of a draw back-especially if you use the carafe to fill it since it has a slim pour to it. I really like the warmer plate settings as my Braun never got hot enough for me.

mjackson ♦ Donna,
I unfortunately do not have enough information from the information you have given me. I would call Cuisinart as they have much more experience and they should be able to help. You can reach them at 1-800-726-0190. Thanks for asking.
I have owned this coffee maker for a week, and have followed the directions to set for automatic brewing, but I wake up to NO coffee. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I am not sure why. I would get on the phone with Cuisinart when you have time and are trying to program it. They will be able to help. You can reach them at 1-800-726-0190. They provide the technical support for the products they make.
I am wondering if the Cuisinart Brew Central DCC 1200 you are selling is the brushed stainless series or the brushed metal series that is the newer finish. I really want the old stainless steel finish...and will purchase it from you if that is the one you carry. Thank-you!

Zack Smith Ashley, The DCC-1200 is the brushed stainless finish.
It still makes great coffee, but the noise when it starts and through the brewing cycle is the same as what we used to hear when it was finishing making the coffee.

I am not sure exactly what the problem is and certainly tough to tell by your description. Cuisinart does a great job with customer support and they prefer to do all of their own. I would give them a call 1-800-726-0190. They will be glad to help you.

We have a Cuisinart Brew Central Coffeemaker DCC 1200.
When plugged in all the function lights come on, but no functions actually occur; in other words the brewing cycle doesn't start.
How can we resolve this issue?

TechMilanoItalia Mike, depending on what features you want, you can get machines as low as $59.99 for a simple drip machine that does over 10 cups. But you may want to compare the different machines and features starting here: http://www.wholelattelove.com/coffee_makers.cfm Please feel free to contact our knowledgeable Sales Team for further assistance. =)
The filter basket becomes backed up with water and does not release into carafe.I tried with only paper filter and then only gold tone basket. That is not the problem. Also tried with just water- so I know it is not the type of coffee grind.

Whole Latte Love Staff My first recommendation would be to make sure the lid is attached to the carafe properly - the top of this lid presses up against a spring-loaded stopper in the filter holder to allow your coffee to drip through. In addition, I would verify that the filter holder is seated properly in the machine is - down as far as it goes - so that the stopper is able to be pressed by the lid. If youve tried these things and are still experiencing a problem, I would recommend contacting Cuisinart directly for further assistance. They can be reached by phone at 800-726-0190.
It is about our 12 cup Cuisinart coffee maker. Although it makes wonderful coffee, it makes a horrendous amout of steam. I've used a commercial cleaner and replaced the filter. Is there anything else we can try?

Whole Latte Love Staff Your problem could be as simple as a loose tube connection inside the machine. Since Cuisinart handles all of their own troubleshooting and repair issues, I would recommend contacting them directly at 1-800-726-0190. They will be able to correctly idagnose the problem and give you a quick solution.
My coffee will not stay hot. The heater goes off as soon as my coffee brews. I've checked the owner's manual and there doesn't seem to be a troubleshooting guide.

Whole Latte Love Staff The Brew Central has a programmable auto shut-off feature that can be set to turn off the machine anywhere from 0 minutes to 4 hours after brewing. It sounds like you may have accidentally set it to 0 minutes. Check your user manual for instructions on how to reset the auto shut-off time to a time you find more appropriate. If youve tried this and continue to have problems, I would recommend contacting Cuisinart directly at 800-726-0190.
We moved to China and the power is 220v here. Can I get it for 220v instead of 110v?

Whole Latte Love Staff Unfortuately, we do not carry this or any other coffee maker in a 220v model. I would recommend contacting Cuisinart directly at 800-726-0190 to see if they currently produce this model in that voltage.
