I've had this machine for about 10 years. First impression and lasting, for obvious reqasons, is it sounds like an "angry" siren from a fire truck. Very ugly in the morning! After that, and after the long use, I had to put a short piece of steel packing strap in the grinding chamber because the ground coffee comming out of the burs had worn through the plastic chamber wall and was getting in the switch. Other than that it won't grind fine enough for espresso, but has worked fine for drip l this time. But what do you want for under $50?

I've had this mill for about five years now, and its great. I find it does everything I need it to, and nothing I don't need it to. You DO need to make sure it gets a little clean out now and then, or beans will get stuck and lock up the burrs. Other than that, I've got no complaints, and it works great.

I prefer very strong coffee and a drip coffee pot so I prefer a fine grind. Therefore, I used the grinder on the finest setting and it stopped working after l and a half months now I am stuck with a non-functioning coffee grinder and the necessity of sending it back to Cuisinart. Perhaps it was not made to grind fine coffee in which case they should have been a caveat about cleaning or something. I loved the fact that I could grind a large quantity at one time and walk away without having to press a button but the machine worked for so short a time that I would not recommend it to anyone. Guess you have to pay more money for a quantity coffee maker.

Works great for stovetop espresso and a french press. Does not grind fine enough for my Gaggia Classic though.

The cuisinart is perfect for my needs - the Keurig fill-your-own which needs a less fine grind than espresso. It was reasonably fast and didn't make a mess like my Estro. The Estro spews fine coffee dust all over the countertop. I would probably need a better grinder if I needed the finer grinds, but if you are grinding for drip coffee this should fill the bill.

I really wanted to give this grinder a great review just to show that you don't need to spend a fortune to make a great espresso. I was wrong! This grinder worked pretty well with my krups steam blowing machine. I replaced that with a Gaggia New Baby and set about brewing my first true espresso at home. Lets put it this way, water coming out of the faucet in my kitchen flowed slower than the espresso coming out of my new gaggia! The finest grind on this grinder doesn't come close to being small enough to make the Gaggia happy. I recommend that you choose something else. Otherwise, you will no doubt be like me (looking for a good way to throw this over the side of a bridge) while on the way to the store to get a replacement!

mjackson ♦ David,
It is a flat burr grinder. It does work well for many types of coffee, but may struggle with espresso for a commercial style portafilter and machine.
Zack Smith Jeremy, Unfortunately we do not have replacement burrs for cuisinart. If you need new burrs for that machine you will need to contact them directly at 800-726-0190
is this considered an "industrial strength" coffee grinder? thank you. Joanna

MikeR No, this is not industrial strength. This would be strictly for home use, and for drip primarily. If you want, call in and ask for Mike and I'll be happy to help you pick out the correct one.

Tracys ♦ Great java starts with the Cuisinart CBM-18. This meticulous unit has 18 grind settings, from very fine to coarse, to meet your varied needs; you can also decide how many cups you’d like to grind! Conical burrs safeguard the integrity of your beans, while delivering uniform fineness for optimal coffee extraction. The CMB-18 also comes equipped with an 8oz bean hopper and a timer that acts as a countdown for the grinding process. The machine will automatically shut-off once grinding is complete. For freshly ground coffee and espresso, you can’t go wrong with the affordable Cuisinart CBM-18!
