The Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine is a great combination of stainless steel style and easy operation at an affordable price. This versatile espresso machine can brew using ground coffee or ESE (Easy Serve Espresso) pods, and pulls a great shot thanks to its powerful 15 bar pump. A cup heating tray on the top of the machine will make sure you have plenty of warm cups on hand, making it great for entertaining. With the Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine, you can also create cappuccinos, lattes, and more using its stainless steel steam wand and included milk frothing pitcher. A large, removable 53oz water reservoir means there’s plenty of time between refills, and a removable drip tray helps make cleaning easy.
With the Cuisinart EM-100, you have the choice to brew using ground coffee or pods. This machine comes with single shot, double shot, and ESE pod baskets, so you have a variety of brewing options to meet your needs. Brewing with ground coffee is great for those learning the art of espresso making, while brewing with pods reduces clean up and ensures consistent results.
On the front of the Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine are the power button, a heating indicator light, and 2 control knobs. The large function knob in the center controls brewing and steaming/hot water output, and features icons for ease-of-use. The smaller knob above the power button lets you select whether you would like steam or hot water dispensed when you turn the center knob, and also heats the boiler to proper steaming temperature.
After pressing the power button on the Cuisinart EM-100, the red heating light will illuminate to let you know the boiler is not yet at brewing temperature. Once the light goes off, the machine is ready to go. Simply add ground coffee or a pod to the portafilter basket, lock the portafilter into place, and turn the center function knob to the coffee icon on the left. When your desired amount of espresso has been reached, turn the knob to the center to stop the flow.
Pressure plays a large role in a great espresso extraction, and helps to achieve a layer of rich crema on top of your shots. Without proper pressure, espresso can taste weak. The Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine features a powerful 15 bar pump that ensures youll get consistent (and delicious) results every time you brew.
For making creamy cappuccinos, lattes, and other café-style drinks, the Cuisinart EM-100 comes with a stainless steel frothing wand and frothing pitcher. To produce steam, turn the small steam/hot water knob to the steam icon and wait for the boiler to heat to the proper temperature. The red heating light will turn off once the proper temperature is reached, and when you turn the center function knob to the steam icon on the right, steam will be dispensed from the frothing wand. When youre done frothing, simply turn the center knob to the off position.
If you want to enjoy tea, hot chocolate, or an Americano, the EM-100 can dispense hot water right from the steam wand. For hot water, turn the small steam/hot water knob to the hot water icon (two water droplets) and wait for the boiler to heat. When the heating light turns off, just turn the center knob to the hot water icon. When the desired amount of hot water has been reached, turn the knob back.
This Cuisinart Espresso Machine has a large 53oz water reservoir, enough for almost 25 shots of espresso between refills. The reservoir is also removable, for easy filling and cleaning. You can keep your water tasting fresh by periodically rinsing the reservoir with warm water and non-abrasive detergent.
The drip tray, located beneath the coffee dispensing spout, ensures your countertops are kept clean. The drip tray on the Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine is removable, so its easy to dump and maintain. Like the water reservoir, the drip tray can be cleaned using warm water and non-abrasive detergent.
The Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Machine is housed in stylish and durable stainless steel. The frothing wand is also made of stainless steel, so it's easy to clean with a damp cloth after use. Black plastic accents and a red heating indicator light add to the machines modern look.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.
I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

Coffee Lover
I have to start off by saying I am thrilled by the performance of this machine which is my first. After spending months researching different makes/models I finally decided on this machine after reading so many great reviews (expert and consumer). Admittedly though the love affair didn't begin so well when I first purchased this machine. I should have known something was wrong when it wouldn't pull a shot when running only water through the machine which is the recommendation for preparing the machine upon first use. It was horribly noisy and resulted in modest drips coming out of the filter holder instead of a steady stream like you would expect. Being inexperienced with espresso machines I thought it would perform like it should once I put coffee into the filter. Sadly this was not the case. It would take over a minute to pull a shot, drip by drip (if I could pull one at all) which resulted in burnt, bitter, pour down the drain espressos. I tried everything I could think of to make it work, more tamping, less tamping, reseating the water reservoir in case it wasn't sealing properly but nothing worked. Finally I returned the unit for another EM-100 desperately hoping it would work because of all the great reviews I read on this machine. It paid off and the experience has been night and day. From the moment I pulled the second unit out of it's box it has delivered amazing shots. Full bodied flavour with lovely crema. So smooth and it's not nearly as noisy as the first unit. I'm addicted. My next attempt is to master milk frothing for cappuccinos and lattes however like a lot of other people have noted the steam wand does appear to be seated very low on the machine which could make getting the milk container in and out of very difficult. Most people just put the machine on a stand to resolve this issue. Others have noted this machine seems to break down after a short period of time so that remains to be seen, however I have read this same comment on most of the machines within this class so I don't think it's a "Cuisinart" problem. I don't know whether the problems with my first machine were a result of a defective pump or a problem with the seal on the water reservoir but should you experience the same issue right out of the box return it immediately for another one. You won't be disappointed. One other note on this machine, you have to remember to manually stop the pour when you have pulled your shot. I forgot this the second time I used it which resulted in my cup overflowing. Thank goodness for a deep drip tray but all in all it's very easy to use.

Pulls great shots for the price and very easy to use. Makes a great first machine.
- Remember to stop the pour after you have pulled your shot. - Clean it immediately after use. Don't leave grinds sitting in the filter for too long. - Power off the machine when you have finished using it (it doesn't turn itself off).

Starbucks Espresso blend
- Reposition the steam wand higher up on the machine. - The cup warmer is a nice to have but it doesn't get that warm however that's minor. I simply put my cups in the microwave for about 10 seconds to warm them up. If you don't have a microwave then the cup warmer is fine.

I was given this machine as a gift. When I wrote my first review, the machine worked fine. But after I have used it daily for just 10 months, it is starting to fall apart. The reservoir leaks, the knob on the front has broken (and been epoxied twice), and the portafilter leaks out the sides during shot pulling. These are inexcusable issues. There are more problems with this machine, but they are based in preference and mechanics (small boiler, poor design.. etc) I would get the Gaggia Espresso for the same money if I were you.

I am pleasantly suprised with the ability this small machine has to make epsresso shots. Personlly I would not have bought it. It was a gift, so I use it daily. I would have bought a Gaggi Classic or a Silvia right off the bat, if I knew what I know 6 months ago. But then I would not have tried this machine either. For the money, I would recommend trying to get a slightly used Gaggia Classic or Silvia. I have read many great reviews on these products. If you find a EM -100 on ebay for less than 150, buy it. It will work for you when you need it most! Just get a good grinder, and trust the bean. :) I have not had any esperience with temperature settings, and do not know for sure if this machine is out of range. I believe it is by the way the shots pull, but I could be wrong!

Freshly home roasted coffee from sweet marias
It rattles a little when in use. I have not opened it up to see what the quality of components are. Im sure its not built with the same amount of forethought as other Italian makes are. But from a company that makes toasters and irons, they did a good job(or got really lucky).

After using a Classic Gaggia for over 10 years, I was astounded with the ease in which to use the Cusinart for Espresso and Cappucino. As long as you follow the instructions, which state to fill the grinds to the top of the grind holder, the machine makes a perfect brew with lots of rich creama.

Are the filter baskets included with this machine pressurized or dual walled at all? Or are they normal baskets?

mjackson ♦ Andrew,
It is a pressurized system which will give you good shots easily regardless of the grind. It is a good starter machine and is easy to use. I hope this helps.
The frothing wand has "fallen out" of my machine. Is there somewhere out there where I can find a repair manual so I can fix my machine. I am assuming I will need to purchase the frothing wand as well.

Hi,
I have just received a Cuisinart EM-100 as a gift and would like to lower the temperature at which the "water heating" light sets off.
I live in Santa Fe New Mexico and the boiling point of water here is about 8 degrees lower than at sea level.
The effect is that as I operate the machine to make an expresso, after the heating light has gone out, the water comes into the cup as mainly steam which kills the crema. I believe the setting must be set around 204 degrees F which is boiling point here.
Is it possible to adjust the temperature to a lower setting to work at this altitude (7000 ft ASL)
Regards,
Ian Norrish

ToddS Ian, there is no way to set the temperature lower. But you can lower the brew temperature by doing a little "temperature surfing". Load your coffee into the portafilter as you always do but before you put the the Portafilter back into the machine turn on the brewing switch. You will the steam come out of the brew group at first and then it will turn into just water. When it does you know that you are below the boiling temperature at your elevation. Then quickly turn off the brew switch, place the portafitler back into the machine and turn the brew switch back on. It sounds like a lot of work but it only takes a few extra seconds the quality of your espresso will be much better. Remember the longer you run the pump before you brew the cooler the brewing temperature will be. If it starts to taste sour then you know that your brew temperature is to low.
Ian Norrish Todd,
Great suggestion, it worked liked a charm.
Many thanks,
Ian
