Cuisinart went completely stainless with their Grind Central Coffee Grinder. This little dynamo is constructed of Stainless Steel right down to its blades. The Cuisinart Grind Central has a heavy-duty motor that is activated by a push button control. Simply press it to grind. There is a built-in safety interlock to prevent grinding unless the lid is securely in place. The bean hopper of the Grind Central is a removable stainless steel bowl. Just give it a slight twist and your bean hopper/ ground coffee container lifts right off. Empty the ground coffee into your coffee filter, and take it right to the dishwasher for easy clean up! My wife and I received this grinder as a gift overy three years ago. We had no mechanical problems at all with it. However, it did not grind evenly - some beans were finely ground while others were left in large chunks. It was also difficult to create the same level of grind day to day. I had read at WLL about the superiority of burr grinders and recetly purchased a Baratza Virtuoso. With this grinder, the beans are beautifully and uniformly ground, and the coffee tastes noticably better. I now believe that blade grinders should be used for nuts, seeds, and spices. Good coffee deserves a qality burr grinder.

Had the Grind Central Grinder a little over 2 months. It was hard to remove from the base and eventually broke off at the bottom of the canister that the beans are placed in. Would not purchase anything else from Cuisinart after this experience.

Question Submitted by calvin baker
Does it have grind settings? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • Blade grinders do not have grind settings - to grind finer, you will simply grind for a longer amount of time. Burr grinders do have grind settings from coarse to fine, which allow you to get the perfect grind no matter what brewing method you’re using and create a more even and consistent grind than blade grinders can provide. I’m not sure how fine you’ll need your grinds, but there are a couple of models I can recommend: the Krups Burr Grinder and the Bunn BCG. Both models have the ability for you to change the grind setting and select how much you’d like to grind based on the number of cups. You can learn more about these grinders by following the links below.

What is its capacity? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The Grind Central can hold and grind up to 4 oz of coffee, which is more than enough for a 12-cup pot of drip coffee. Information like this can be found for any of the grinders we carry by following the link below to our Compare-O-Matic.

How does it operate? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The Grind Central has a single on/off button that you press and hold to grind - when you let go, grinding will stop. In addition, this grinder has a safety mechanism that won’t let you grind unless the lid is on and locked into place.

Question Submitted by
Is this a blade grinder? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The Cuisinart Grind Central is a blade grinder.  With this type of grinder, the beans are chopped rather than crushed like they would be with a burr grinder.  Chopping the beans this way produces an uneven grind, with pieces ranging from large chunks to dust.  This makes the grinder more suitable for use with drip coffee machines than with espresso machines. If you are looking for something to grind for an espresso machine, I would recommend taking a look at the Solis Maestro Plus and Gaggia MDF.  For more information on these grinders, and to learn about grinders in general, click on the links below.

Cuisinart Grind Central vs. Cuisinart DCG click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The Cuisinart Grind Central Coffee Grinder holds 4oz. of ground coffee runs on 175 watts at 120v. The Cuisinart DCG Coffee Grinder has a smaller capacity, holding 2.5oz. of ground coffee and running on 130 watts. In addition, the Grind Central has both a stainless steel housing and coffee container, and is a bit larger than the DCG, standing 8.25"H x 4.25"W x 4.75"D versus the DCG’s 7"H x 4.25"W x 3.75"D size. You can compare specs like these side-by-side for any of the grinders we carry when you follow the link below to our Compare-O-Matic

Question Submitted by
Can you use it to grind coffee for your bypass doser? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The Cuisinart Grind Central is much smaller than the Capresso Burr Grinder Select.  The Cuisinart is 8.25"H x 4.25"W x 4.75"D.  However, the Cuisinart is a blade grinder, which will not give optimal results for use with your bypass doser due to its inconsistent grind.  Using a burr grinder for this purpose would work much better.  I would recommend taking a look at the Gaggia MM burr grinder, which is also fairly small (10.3"H x 4"W x 5.8"D). For more information on the MM, follow the link below.

Question Submitted by
Can I use it to grind spices? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • Unfortunately, all of the grinders we carry are only rated for grinding coffee beans. In fact, grinding anything else may void your warranty.

Question Submitted by
How fine can it grind? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • This is a blade grinder, so the longer you grind, the finer the results. However, blade grinders generally produce an inconsistent grind - you get a mix of grind fineness in each batch. If you’re looking for a grinder that creates a very consistent fine grind, I would recommend a burr grinder like the Solis Maestro Plus as an alternative. You can learn more about this grinder by following the link below.
