Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind and Brew Thermal Coffee...

Features

Essential Info:
The Cuisinart Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup Automatic Coffee maker brings you the technology necessary for a superior cup of coffee, without sacrificing the simplicity you crave.
A bean hopper sets this machine apart from the other Cuisinart coffee makers. Fully programmable and complete with its own burr grinder, this coffee maker makes a great gift and is an integral part of any coffee lover’s kitchen. You have the option of using either whole beans or pre-ground coffee. Remember, though, that coffee beans deteriorate rapidly after they are ground; for the best taste, use whole beans.

Controls:
Each button and dial on the control panel is clearly labeled in black for ease of use.
Cuisinart offers you the special touches that you’ve come to expect by now – like the ability to program brewing up to 24 hours in advance, and an easily programmable clock – while adding innovative details like a Brew Pause feature, 1-4 cup setting, and strength control (mild, medium, or strong).

Performance:
Cuisinart seamlessly blends technology and simplicity in the Grind & Brew Thermal. The showerhead design distributes water evenly over the coffee, so that no grounds become over extracted and bitter. It uses a “Brew Pause” system, so you can pour your first cup of coffee mid-brew on those rushed mornings.

Construction:
Stainless steel and black plastic housing make taking care of this machine a snap. A damp cloth can be used to clean up drips and spills. Remove the bean hopper to clean the coffee chute and filter; the bean hopper and lid can be washed in warm soapy water. Meanwhile, the Grind & Brew’s simple design – as well as its compact dimensions – allow this coffee maker to fit in well to all kinds of kitchens and workstations. Made of high quality materials, the Grind & Brew is durable and reliable.

Grinder:
Cuisinart gets all the details right with the Grind & Brew Thermal 12-Cup, and the grinder is no different. Even before it begins grinding, the bean hopper holds 8 oz of beans, protecting them from the damaging effects of moisture and air. The burr grinder grinds automatically when you set the coffee maker to brew, but you can also turn off the grinder if you plan on using pre-ground coffee.

Carafe:
A stainless steel 12-cup thermal carafe means that your coffee stays warm longer, even when you brew in small batches. Its no-drip design includes double-wall insulation, and there is no need to turn or adjust the lid after brewing. The thermal carafe improves upon a hot plate design, because exposing coffee to a direct heat source can cause the coffee’s flavors to break down after only an hour or so. The thermal carafe, which rests on a scratch-resistant resting plate, maintains the coffee’s temperature for hours, rendering a hot plate obsolete. To clean the carafe and lid, wash it in warm soapy water or clean on the top rack of your dishwasher.

Reservoir:
The reservoir’s water level window means you won’t have to wonder whether you poured in the right amount of water. Fill the water reservoir by simply opening the lid and pouring in the desired amount of water. Don’t put any water into the reservoir when the bean hopper lid has been removed – the reservoir is located close to the grinder, and accidentally spilling water into the grinder can damage it.

Water Filtration:
Impurities in your tap water can result in coffee that just doesn’t taste right. The built-in charcoal water filter removes chlorine and other impurities from your water, so the flavors of your coffee are never overshadowed. The filter should be replaced once every 60 days, or after 60 uses, whichever comes first.

Coffee Filter:
The Cuisinart 12-cup Grind & Brew Thermal includes a Gold Tone Cuisinart Commercial Style Filter. It rests in the filter basket, which can be removed for easy cleaning. A special safety system prevents brewing if the filter basket door is not properly closed, so no coffee spills if the brew button is pushed accidentally.

Accessories/Reorder:
The Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind & Brew Thermal 12-cup Automatic comes with a charcoal water filter, gold tone coffee filter, and detailed instruction manual.

Cuisinart DGB-900BC coffee Grind and brew machine Things I consider when I review a product: - I am warranty conscious - I am an avid comparison shopper - I realize there is a psychology to using products, a product needs to fit into your life, and make it better. I look in products how the product does this, and consider that in my review. - The parts used to make a product and how durable they are is important - I am a designer and look for good design in products - I believe we all learn more in sharing what we learn as we shop - I realize that how you use a product to share with your friends is important - My focus when I purchase anything is price compared to performance - Realize the most expensive is not always the best. - Have learned good products are made to last. I recently purchased the Cuisinart DGB-900 BC coffee machine. The controls are well made, you can tell the parts of this are precision made like a Swiss watch made to work well, be precise and last a long time. I actually have had older Cuisinart coffee makers. They have over time improved the ability to clean, the size of the on board storage for the coffee beans added, the quality of the controls and the mechanism that holds the ground coffee. All of these are better on this machine, also they added a side water view that was lacking in earlier models so you can see your water level before you start the grind and brew process. I read the negative reviews and the positive but in the end I make my own decision. I like this coffee maker for the following reasons: Pros - Attractive stainless steel design - Stainless steel durable buttons on front for coffee feature control - Well design durable construction - Has an 8 ounce coffee bean holder, that is more then double the capacity of competitive models - Is designed to be easy to use and clean - New models have a 3 year warranty, refurbished is 30 to 90 days - Thermos can be taken to the living room and coffee served multiple times there. - Has many nice features over older models like 12 cups max amount over 10 - Utilizes a burr grinder that other coffee makers do not have. - Has an easy to read water level on the side that is easy to read even on small cups. - Thermos is designed to keep coffee hot for long periods of time. - Has an auto time that will make coffee when you wake for you - Comes with a video to help you get up and running fast - Has a water filer to filter out bad water taste Cons - Coffee temperature is not as hot as other competitive brands, however to me seems hot enough. - No inside water level like the older models had so you could see looking in how much water was poured, must look on the side. - Timer to set coffee maker is a bit tricky to set - Coffee thermos pours slower then other models. I would recommend buying a refurbished model and buy your own gold filter. Some prefer paper, but gold ones will save you money over time over paper. If you want fine ground coffee you can buy a coffee grinder for 30 dollars and use that instead of the build in burr grinder. Average cost new is 130 to 200 dollars, if you buy new then you have a 3 year warranty from Cuisinart. That says allot about the quality of the components. Its as they say in the auto industry a bumper to bumper warranty. Check for details in the manual for what is and what is not covered. Low refurbish cost is 100 dollars, there are several options in between. I have several reviews for this coffee maker here is one: http://youtu.be/_HDza-QZVGk

I've had this coffeemaker for a couple years. I love the thermal, the grinder (yes it's loud) and the coffee it makes. That is, when it doesn't end up all over the counter and then flow down onto the floor. Yes, I've done everything: cleaned parts with toothbrush, run vinegar regularly through it. I'm tossing mine and looking for a new model. VERY DISAPPOINTED in Cuisinart.

Great machine

Great machine. Replaced a brief encounter with the Capresso CoffeeTeam thermal carafe which was a mistake. The Cusinart is a good improvement over the blade grinder version that preceded it.

Reviews are harsh, coffee and coffee maker are not

There are some serious bad reviews here, but I think they're being overly critical. Think about what this thing does. It's loud (of course, it's burr grinding), but so are most other burr grinders. The bean container holds a good amount of coffee beans. It's a thermal carafe (imo, the best type of carafe to use) which means it will not over heat your coffee sitting on a burner.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

More than 1 year

What's Best About this Product?

Thermal Carafe; burr grinder; coffee bean container; no burn burner; automated; makes good coffee; grind and strength selectable. It's about 100.00 at your local CVS ... or was it Walgreens? Can't rememeber, but my sister bought one brand new for exactly 99.00. Keeps a great temp even after 4-5hrs. Stainless steel is typical eye candy on the machine; however, the carafe is actually useful (you know, the accidental hits on counter-thing).

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Sure you gotta clean it, but y'all gotta THINK about what it's doing. It's easy to clean, just rinse the filter container and cover. I've used Capresso's and replaced them all (quit brewing, quit heating, quit period). This coffee maker I've had since they first released it (2008'ish?) and it's still going strong. There's a deep channel under the bean container. Every 3 months or so, take the (EMPTY!) bean container off, pull the handle thing and hand-vac the grind remnents. It's that easy... and makes your hand vac smell WONDERFUL!

My Experience With Using This Product:

Connoisseur

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Nearly all brands of whole bean regular and flavored

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

Using the carafe to pour the water results in usual spillage. It could brew faster (takes about 12-14minutes for a full pot). Does clog up fairly decent after using about 3-4 times. Gotta clean it more often. Instructions are horrible (I remember them).

Some of the Other Machines I've Used:

Capresso CoffeeTeam (3 models); Cuisinart 600 and 650BC (both horrible); various Mr. Coffee's

The Type of Filter I've Been Using:

Both gold tone and paper. I stick with paper because I'm not a fan of grinds or debris in my coffee.

Steer Clear of Cuisinart

Started using it as a whole house alarm clock because its so loud it wakes the whole house. The grinder shute plugs up and coffee flows all over the counter. Come to think of it coffee flows all over the counter even when not grinding bean. My lovelye granite is not so lovely anymore due to coffe stains from this god awful machine. Watch out for the coffee grind basket the door will fly open without warning and fling wet coffee grounds all over the walls. Cuissinarts great customers service reps recomend running vinegar and water through it as a cure all. Surprise.... it didnt fix a thing.

Dad

Brews yummy coffee when it works. BUT... the grinder is as LOUD as a jet airplane taking off, giving me a headache and waking up the whole house each morning before I get that first cup. WORST OF ALL, coffee chute gets jammed half the time, because ridiculous design defect causes the filter basket cover to get misaligned when I close the filter basket door. I curse the machine.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

More than 1 year

What's Best About this Product?

Thermal carafe keeps coffee pretty hot for a while without burning. Hopper holds a few days' worth of beans so I don't need to put in new beans every morning. BUT I wouldn't buy it again due to the NOISE and terrible filter basket design.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

line up the arrows of the filter basket cover, then cross your fingers as you close the filter basket door. Cover your ears when it starts grinding. When it sounds like coffee chute is jammed, slam your fist on the counter, curse the thing, hit the off button, open the door, take off the hopper, unjam the beans with a small utensil. Re-assemble, line up the filter basket arrows again, close the filter basket door again. Cross your fingers.

horrible

I pot and I returned it. Horrible. NOT HOT! The carafe does not pour easily and has to be fully inverted - then it drips - which isn't so bad because its NOT HOT!

Disappointing

I have been wanting a coffee maker with a grind and brew feature for some time now so when the Cuisinart DGB900 came on the market with a burr grinder built in I thought I had found my machine at last. I have brewed 3 pots of coffee with fresh beans and have not yet brewed that deep rich cup of coffee I am used to getting with my old Capresso machine. I will keep trying to adjust the amount of water to beans to see if I can find the right formula for my taste but my hopes are not high. There are 3 settings from light-strong for the desired brew strength, but the strong seting misses the mark by a long shot. With my old Capresso I used a slightly rounded coffee scoop per cup and it always turned out perfectly rich and aromatic. I decided to get a new machine so I could wake up to a pot of freshly ground & brewed coffee. I have to say though that even my old Capresso which used preground beans brews a far superior cup of coffee.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

Less than 1 month

What's Best About this Product?

My criteria for a new machine were: a built in grinder, programable start time, thermal carafe and a minimum of 10-12 cups of coffee and easy to clean. The Cuisinart DGB900 has all of these so I was thrilled when it came out on the market recently. I like to wake up to freshly brewed coffee so grinding beans in the morning is not an option. This is something I will only do occassionally on wknds when I have the time and inclination!

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Keep tweaking the bean to water ratio until you find your perfect formula.....but it shouldnt be this hard should it? Perhaps I'll return this one and try the Capresso with the built in grinder...the only reason I didn't purchase the Capresso is that I heard it was difficult to clean. Maybe I should just go back to buying preground beans and purchasea simple programmable thermal Capresso machine.

My Experience With Using This Product:

Coffee Lover

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Peet's mocha java

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

The hopper doesn't hold enough beans and seems to take less than the half pound it claims to hold. The strength of the brew could be enhanced by allowing a choice of more than 3 brew settings.

Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind & Brew Thermal Carafe 12-Cup Automatic Coffee Maker
Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind & Brew Thermal Carafe 12-Cup Automatic Coffee Maker

I have the Cuisinart DGB 900 Series coffeemaker with the built-in coffee bean grinder. I've only had it a few months, but recently it stopped grinding the coffee beans. It sounds as if it is grinding them, but when the water comes out it is clear and warm. I have cleaned it as much as possible, but it still does not function properly. What should I do?

Cuisinart DGB-900 Grind & Brew Thermal Carafe 12-Cup Automatic Coffee Maker

I am having difficulty with the coffe ground basket running over during brewing. It seems to work OK if I make 6 or less cups. It made about six pots before it started doing this. Can you help. Oh also the pot is difficult to pour from and drips.

Thanks

WholeLatteLoveS S Ivan, it sounds like the coffee you are using is to finely ground. Try a grind that is more coarse and your problem will go away.
