Essential Info:
Trying to keep fresh brewed coffee tasting fresh brewed has inspired manufacturers to develop machines with insulated carafes.
Cuisinart’s 12-Cup Thermal is a drip machine that brews directly into a brushed stainless steel carafe with a specially designed lid. The carafe features a “hands-free” lid to seal in heat and flavor. For more convenience and control, the coffee maker provides the increasingly common 30 second Brew Pause feature to let you pour a cup in mid-brew. The Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal features a clock/timer that can be programmed to start brewing up to 24 hours in advance.

Controls:
If you don’t want to reprogram your machine every day, the Cuisinart 12- Cup Thermal has a feature you will appreciate.
Once a brewing time has been set, the machine stores the information in its memory. After this, it will brew at this time each day if it is left on. As a safety feature, the machine will automatically shut off if there is no water in the reservoir. The Cuisinart 12-cup Thermal has a clock/timer with LED display. It uses a simple on/off switch to brew coffee, and a red light is illuminated each time the machine starts to brew. The machine will beep 5 times to signal that brewing has been completed.

Performance:
The little things in the performance of the Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal make it stand out. Brewing time for example, is swift, producing a full pot in about 11 minutes. It’s a small detail, but along with the “hands-free” lid and memory storage, the accelerated brew time shows a determination to smooth out the rough edges and remove the “wasted motions” of coffee making. The Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal uses five clear, but unobtrusive, beeps to signal that brewing is complete. After brewing is signaled, it pays to wait for a minute. Removing the carafe immediately may cause the few last drops in the filter basket to spill onto the base plate. Overall, the Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal is an above average performer.

Construction:
The Cuisinart 12-Cup is built for strength and durability. The machine is made of polished plastic, with a plastic filter holder. Its carafe is made of very solid and durable brushed stainless steel, with a polished plastic lid that features a unique valve to seal immediately after brewed coffee has entered into the carafe. The valve works with several intricately connected parts to form and maintain an airtight seal. When open, the lid to the water reservoir adds a few inches to the machine’s 15.5-inch height, so be sure there is sufficient vertical space. Interestingly, the Cuisinart 12-Cup does not have a cord storage feature, so you will have to wrap the fully extended cord alongside the machine when not in use.

Carafe:
An airtight lid is only as good as its seal. The less you have to twist and turn, the better. Cuisinart has taken this concept a step further. The Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal virtually eliminates the problem of loose seals. It features what’s called a “hands-free” lid that never needs adjusting. You do not have to fiddle with the lid or twist it into a specific position to pour. The lid allows coffee to drip into the carafe while brewing. After brewing is complete, a special valve seals the lid shut to retain heat. The carafe has a double-walled, brushed stainless steel insulated carafe with a large, deep spout for drip free pouring, and an easy to grip plastic handle.

Hot Plate:
Because the carafe of Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal is insulated, there’s no need for a hot plate.
The double lined, stainless steel carafe sits on a polished plastic base.

Reservoir:
You can stop squinting to read water level lines.
An exterior water level indicator uses a floating red ball to show water level, so it can be seen instantly and clearly. The large reservoir is located in the back of the machine, but water is poured in through the top.

Water Filtration:
There is no filter or water filtration system with the Cuisinart 12-Cup Thermal.
Filtered water helps to improve the taste of coffee and to maintain cleanliness in the internal portions of the machine, so it is recommended to use filtered or bottled water when brewing.

Coffee Filter:
The Cuisinart 12 Cup uses a paper cone filter.

Accessories/Re-order:
The Cuisinart 12 Cup Thermal comes with 5 paper cone filters and a three year limited warranty. Filter re-order information is included with the instruction booklet.

We have owned the Cuisinart 12 cup thermal for 7 years now. We love it. Coffee will stay Hot , not warm, but Hot for about 12 hours. Makes a great cup of coffee every time. the only thing is, it is hard to get down into the thermal pot to clean. we are looking at getting the same one again.

Great Machine

Have been using this coffee maker in our office for over two years. We make at least two-three pots per day and it has stood upt to some serious abuse. It finally died on us today and I will most likely purchase the same model to replace it. Have had a few accidents over the years, but still love this machine.

The carafe. Coffee tastes much better when it is not being constantly heated.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Always make sure that basket is clean of all coffee grounds and properly seated before brewing, otherwise it can make a big mess. Also would recommend using the metallic filter.

Very Happy with this product

I have owned this coffee maker for two years. It does exactly what I need: Brew hot coffee to my liking. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee warm for a long time. This eliminates the needs for a warmer on the coffee maker which can cook the coffee. I believe this is a top coffee maker and have rated it as such. It is easy to use. The temperature is hot, the coffee taste fine, the construction is durable. I don't remember reading the instruction guide, but it is not very difficult to figure out. I got what I paid for, so I think the value for the price is good. I highly recommend this coffee maker.

What's Best About this Product?

Brewing temperature, Thermal carafe, Auto shut-off after brewing cycle, beeps when brewing is complete, and quality build.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

This was my fault, but on two occasions I have not centered the carafe on the maker causing some coffee to flow into the carafe and the rest over the counter top. Like I said, this was user error.

Honeymoon's are great!!

I am in my mid twenty's and I feel like my new husband and I deserve a decent coffee maker. I went into this looking long and hard for something quite specific; timer, I work early and don't want to wait. And a thermal carafe, he works later and we only need one pot that will stay fresh for a couple of hours. We have been using a Melitta for a few years and we are preparing to retire it to the camping supplies. We were very excited to find this maker as it had all of the required options plus the "Brew Pause" that would come in handy. Right out of the box it looked great, I was prepared for the hight of the machine and found it a spot on the counter. The first few weeks went great then we started having problems with the "Brew Pause" feature, I can live w/that, we became very skilled w/the "one cup under while pouring into the other" trick. One normal spring morning I awake to the normal wonderful smell and to my surprise coffee and grounds ALL OVER THE COUNTER!!! Somehow the Brew Pause spring device that is supposed to slowly allow the coffee to trickle down into the crafe' had been clogged w/coffee grounds and the entire pot had not drained into the carafe', but all over the counter, floor, behind the microwave, etc. I rinsed and remade cursing about this freak coffee accident. This happened again about once a week for about a month. Through a lot of heated discussion we have come to the conclusion that in the evening when we empty the old grounds out and put a new filter and grounds in, the filter can sometimes become damp. This causes the filter not to allow the coffee to drain fast enough and clogs the whole funnel. The grounds flow over the cone to the lid of the carafe' clogging the lid resulting in a large brown stinky mess. I tried drying the cone before filling and scrubbing after each mishap making sure to rinse the lid, but I am now forced to make coffee in the morning, getting up 18 min early due to my coffee maker taking about 13 min to brew. I am disappointed w/my choice in machine.

12-Cup Thermal Carafe

This coffee maker is almost perfect, great coffee, good temperature, looks great. The problem is the design. There are two areas where water pools and remains after the brewing cycle is complete. One is under the reservoir cover (the top of the drip head) where it slopes towards the front of the machine. The condensated water accumulates there (about an ounce). The second one is at the bottom of the water reservoir. It's partially segmented by the water feed up to the drip head. The intake to the heater is on the 'right side'. Water pools on the left side (about an ounce). If I'm near the machine at the end of the brew cycle, I'll tilt the machine back and to the right to clear both 'pools'. This is a real pain. If I miss the end of the cycle I have to unplug it (it's on the counter on the other side of the kitchen), empty the basket and then upend the machine over the sink to empty it, then replug it and reset the clock and timer.

mjackson ♦ Larry,

I don't have exact temperatures to give you. I did do some research and on the reviews people say it does brew hot. That seems to be one of the many things people like about the brewer. It also seems to keep coffee hot in the Carafe for up to 4 hours. I would also recommend pre-heating the carafe before you brew the first pot of the day. That will make sure you dont loose a lot of temperature when you make you first pot of coffee for the day.I hope this helps.

I have a white version of the DTC 975N and the labels for the buttons have gone away.
The PDF manual from Cuisinart for this coffee maker does not show what the 6 buttons are.
I know the left top is start. I'm need to know what the buttons are to set the time, program the hour, minute, set the start timer and ?
Thank you.

I was really wondering if this coffee pot looks like the one in the picture? With the black plastic on the bottom of the pot. The newer style seems to be all stainless steel, instead of black with brushed in the middle. This seems to be the older model, BUT that is what I am looking for. My old coffee maker like this one finally died after 7years use but I don't care for the new style.

TechMilanoItalia The version that we are currently selling is only black at the top, the rest (including the bottom) is all brushed stainless. Sorry for the confusion, we should have an updated picture of the product up soon.

How do I clean the inside of the carafe? What kind of detergent do I or can I use?

0

Whole Latte Love Staff Washing the carafe in warm, soapy water is the easiest way to keep it clean. However, if you there are some stains you’re having trouble removing with just soap and water, I would recommend using Urnex Cleancaf. Just add 1 tablespoon of Cleancaf to a full carafe of hot water and let it sit for 10 minutes - it will be sparkly clean when you’re done. You can purchase and find more information on Urnex Cleancaf by following the link below.

How long does the thermal coffee maker keep the coffee hot?

0

Vote

0

Whole Latte Love Staff A thermal carafe will keep the coffee hot for about 3 hours and there are a couple things you can do to maximize the heat retention for that time. The first is preheating the carafe by running it under hot water before brewing. A cold carafe will absorb the heat from the coffee, so rinsing it with hot water ahead of time will help you avoid that. In addition, it helps not to put the carafe back in the brewing position when brewing is done. This is because when the carafe is in place, a valve in the lid is pressed down to allow coffee into the carafe. If you put it back in this spot after brewing, the valve will be pressed and allow all the heat to escape from the inside of the pot. If you take these few suggestions to heart, you should be enjoying your piping hot coffee for hours after brewing.

We're playing russian roulette with out cuisinart coffee maker. At least half the times we use it, about half way through the brew cycle coffee (full of coffee grinds) starts overflowing the carafe and spilling out over the counter, resulting in a big mess and a few burns. Looking inside, the coffee seems to be overflowing the filter. We're using the right amount, we've checked the grind and everything else we can think of. Any ideas?

0

Vote

Whole Latte Love Staff The first 2 things I would normally recommend would be to make sure you’re not overfilling the filter basket and to ensure the grounds aren’t too fine. But since you’ve already tried these things, the next thing on your list should be to make sure the filter holder is clean. This part of the machine has a spring-loaded stopper that gets pressed up while the carafe is in place to let coffee drip through. If it is stuck with coffee residue and oils, it will result in the overflow you’ve described. Try cleaning this part of the machine to remove any residues and see if it helps. If you’ve done this and continue to have problems, I would recommend contacting Cuisinart directly at 800-726-0190 for further assistance.
