If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

Very Happy

I love coffee and was converted to a french press about a year ago. Then as I started traveling more for work out of the country, fell in love with espresso and other drinks! This machine was given to me as a Christmas gift and think it does a pretty good job at making espresso. I am still learning the steam on it as I lean more towards cappuccinos than straight espresso. So far so good but still learning. Just ordered a frothing pitcher and some other items that I hope will help improve my froth. Recommended to those that are new to the home-espresso machine looking for something that is compact, efficient and a good price.

DeLonghi EC270

I've had two DeLonghi EC270 machines for a couple years now and I was convinced I found the one machine I HAVE to take to my grave. However recently I was steaming some milk and the thermostat blew...is there a trick to replacing them? I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms!

For the price, this machine does have some potential. I have removed the original filter basket, bored out the portafilter, and added a double shot basket of a couple MM larger than original. It is held in by friction, so the thumb clip has also been removed. Additionally, I made the PF bottomless. It now functions similarly to a traditional pump espresso machine, and with a good grinder/tamper, and a bit of practice, it is not difficult to get an enjoyable espresso. Ease of use rating is low, since I do not feel this machine makes good espresso without the work I put in to modify it. Steaming requires temp surfing. I bleed steam until the light goes off, and then close the valve, count to 8-10 sec, and begin steaming before the light comes back on. This way, the heater stays on.

Went to Venice, Italy --ruined for life :) since they brewed the best espresso/cappuccinos i have EVER had! So....can you recommend an espresso/cappcno machine for my home for 2-3 esp/caps a day, VERY reliable, and under $200ish ? Frothing is very important as well as a "rich tasting" espresso. Grazie!

mjackson ♦ Suzzanne,
There are certainly some options to consider that will work well in that price range. I really like the Gaggia a lot as they will last as well as do a great job. Look at the Gaggia Evolution - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia/gaggia_evo_black.cfm This would be my first choice. I woudl also look at the Delonghi EC 702 -http://www.wholelattelove.com/DeLonghi/delonghi_ec702.cfm, another one to consider would be the Capresso EC 100 =http://www.wholelattelove.com/JuraCapresso/capresso_ec100.cfm. If you watch the videos it will help. The Gaggia has the most potential for the best shot as well as lasting the longest.

I thought I saw on here that it was recommended to get a 53mm tamper for this machine. I just received my RW aluminum in the mail today and it's just a tad bit too big for the basket on this machine and does not seem like it will get a good tamp. I read today on another blog that it should be a 49mm one. Thoughts on this?

A A David,
my apologies for the confusion! The portafilter on the EC270 is a 49mm.

Hi, I am debating between the delonghi EC155 and EC270, but I am interested in what type of material the steam wand is made of. It seems like most wands are made out of plastic, how durable is this? Any answer would help thanks.

mjackson ♦ Brandie,Most of the outer shell is plastic. They are both good machines. I do know the extra money is worth it for the 270. We get great reviews or responses to the 270 and it does a better job of brewing and steaming. I really like that machine for the money.

hi, i have been debating what machine to buy for a while now, and my price range has narrowed it down to the delonghi EC155, delonghi EC270, and the cuisinart EM-100. can you shed some light on the major differences, especially between the two delonghis and which of the three you would recommend most? also, what size pitcher and tamper is best for each machine? i plan on buying a pitcher and tamper regardless and want to be sure i get the right size for the machine. thanks, ethan

Michael Rosso ♦ Ethan...Thank you for your interest in the Delonghi and Cuisinart espresso machine. I would suggest you buy the Delonghi over the Cuisinart, because Delonghi has more experience with espresso machines. I suggest you use a 20 ounce frothing pitcher. Thanks

I'm looking for a small espresso machine with a good steaming wand for under $200. I purchased the Delonghi BCO120T Combination Machine and was pretty disappointed with its milk frother. I don't need the drip coffee feature to be included, either. Any advice?

Zack Smith Kristen, Thanks for your question. I would recommend that you look into the Gaggia Pure espresso machine. The Pure features a 9 oz stainless steel boiler that will give you great steaming potential. If also has a pannarello steam wand which allows you to create great micro foam.

I have been looking for Espresso Machines for a while now, and I'm down to the DeLonghi EC270, DeLonghi EC155, and the DeLonghi BAR32. I know one is about $50 cheaper, but if they were all the same price, which one is better quality. I've looked at different things about all of them, but I would like some insight from someone who really knows what they are talking about before I purchase one. I want to make sure it is easy to use, make a good espresso shot, and has a good steamer/frother for milk in order to make good mochas and capuccinos. If you could assist me in making this decision, I would be very appreciative. I hope to hear back from someone soon.
Thank you for your help in advance,
~Paige~

mjackson ♦ Paige,

Thanks for the question. I think you will find the best quality and ability to create a good rink consistently in the 270.Based on use and reviews it seems to have the most solid feel to it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Hi - I want to buy a low profile espresso maker that would serve 1 to 2 servings or 3 to 4 occasionally. Can you recommend one that is reasonably priced and does a good job and not to large.
Thank you,

techkathy Linda - The Delonghis are really great for 1 or 2 at a time and for occasional use. 3_4 may take a couple of extra minutes but would still be fine if it was only occasionally. A couple of other machines to consider would be the Saeco Aroma, Gaggia Espresso Pure, and the Capresso 4-cup.

if you were buying an inexpensive back up espresso machine / one you would use on occasion for decaf (using pods) would you buy this, the EC155, the Gaggia Evolution or some other? I use a Gaggia Titanium for my normal brewing. Thanks.

ToddS Both machines will do a nice job with the pods. But the Gaggia will allow you to go the next level in your espresso adventure if you choose to at some point. It has the full sized and style commercial brew group and portafilter. In fact the portafilter on all the Gaggia home machines will fit on the Gaggia commercial machines. You can't get a better machine for ground coffee for anywhere near the price.
