General Specifications

Colors: Black
Size: 15"H x 14.6"W x 13.8"D

Features

This three-in-one machine brews drip coffee, foams and steams milk, and brews espresso. The DeLonghi Caffe Nero offers everything you’ve come to expect out of an espresso machine, as well as a drip coffee maker, so you’re sure to please all the caffeine addicts in the house. Use the steam wand to foam and steam milk, or you can also dispense hot water from it. Since the coffee maker and espresso maker use separate water reservoirs and heating elements, you can brew coffee and make espresso simultaneously. The drip coffee maker is even programmable, so you can wake up in the morning to a full pot of fresh coffee. For anyone who loves coffee – whether it’s brewed in small batches under high pressure (for espresso), or brewed in larger quantities with hot water (for drip coffee) – the DeLonghi Caffe Nero combination machine is sure to please both your palate and your wallet.

Features and Benefits: Coffee

Easy to Use Controls

The silver control panel stands out from the Caffe Nero’s black housing. It consists of a knob, labeled “espresso/cappuccino,” and a digital screen on the right labeled “coffee.” The knob, which also has an icon reading “Easy Serve Espresso E.S.E.” has four positions: steam, off, espresso, and hot water, each with an icon. The steam function and espresso function each have a red indicator light – there’s also a green indicator light labeled “OK” to the right of the espresso’s red indicator light.

Clockwise from the top, buttons for drip coffee on/off, auto programming, minute set, hour set, and 1-5 cup option surrounds the digital screen. All of the buttons are labeled with an icon or words, and except for the minute set and hour set buttons, all have red indicator lights.

Brewing Espresso

Before brewing espresso, it’s important to pre-heat the machine by turning the knob to the espresso function, waiting for the “OK” light to illuminate, and turning the knob to the hot water/espresso position to let water run though the machine. Add either grounds or pods to the portafilter using the appropriate filter basket (double shot filter basket, or single/pod filter basket) and tamp down using the built-in tamper. Insert the portafilter into the group head and turn the knob to the espresso/hot water position. When you have your desired amount, return the knob to the espresso position to stop the flow of espresso.

Brewing Drip Coffee

To brew drip coffee, open the filter holder and add your filter and ground coffee – Delonghi included a measuring scoop so you’ll be certain you’re adding the right amount. Close the filter holder and place the carafe on the warming plate beneath. Adjust the Accuflavor knob to your preferences and press the drip coffee on/off button directly above the digital clock. The on indicator light on the drip coffee button illuminates, and your coffee begins brewing. To turn the machine off, press the drip coffee on/off button again.

24-Hour Digital Programmable Timer

You can set the machine up to 24 hours in advance to automatically begin brewing drip coffee. Press the “auto” button until 0:00 flashes on the digital clock, then set your desired time using the hour and minute buttons. After about five seconds, the display will stop flashing. Press the auto button again, and the auto indicator light illuminates, showing that the auto-start time is now set.

Patented Dual-Function Filter Holder for Pods or Grounds

This espresso filter holder has two separate attachments – one for ground coffee, and one for pods. The Sempre Crema Filter, used with grounds, provides the proper pressure to enhance the crema on top of each shot. The E.S.E. pod filter basket is fitted specifically for brewing pods, so you can have espresso without having to measure, grind, and tamp beans.

Flavor Savor Brewing System with Accuflavor Knob

The Flavor Savor brewing system is an innovative system that increases drip coffee infusion time to improve extraction and result in a rich, full-bodied brew. You can adjust the strength of your drip coffee using the Accuflavor knob located on top of the machine above the carafe. Turn this knob to the right for a milder drink, or to the left for a stronger drink.

Drink Interrupt and 1-5 Cup Option

“Drink Interrupt” allows you to remove the coffee carafe and pour a cup before the full pot of drip coffee is brewed. The 1-5 cup option adjusts the coffee heating element, so your coffee is always heated to the ideal temperature depending on the number of cups you’re brewing. If you’re brewing less than six cups, press the 1-5 cups coffee button located to the left of the digital clock. The 1-5 cups button will light up, and you can now begin brewing your coffee.

15 Bar Stainless Steel Espresso Boiler

The high-quality stainless steel boiler provides more than enough pressure to pull a great shot of espresso. Stainless steel is known for its durability and heat retaining properties, and the boiler is self-priming to make your favorite beverage quickly and effortlessly.

Drip Coffee Maker Design

The coffee carafe’s anti-drip design translates into easy pouring with no messy cleanup after every brew. The carafe rests on a non-stick warming plate, which keeps coffee hot after brewing is complete. To clean the warming plate, simply wipe down with a damp cloth.

Features and Benefits: Frothing & Hot Water

Cappuccino System Frother

To make a cappuccino, latte, or café au lait (strong drip coffee with steamed milk), use the Cappuccino System Frother to foam and steam milk. Turn the knob on the left side of the control panel to the steam position – the steam indicator light comes on. Wait until the OK light illuminates, which indicates that the boiler is at the proper temperature, and open the steam knob on top of the machine to release steam. Close the steam knob to stop the flow of steam, and move the knob to the “off” position.

Hot Water

The steam wand also dispenses hot water for an americano, tea, or hot cocoa. Rotate the knob on the left side of the control panel to the espresso/hot water setting, and once the OK light illuminates, open the steam knob on top of the machine to dispense hot water. To stop the flow of water, close the steam knob and turn the left knob to the off position.

Features and Benefits: Cleaning, Maintenance, and Other

Dual Removable Water Tanks

You can lift up the panel on the top of the machine to reveal two removable water tanks. The left reservoir stores about 42 oz of water for espresso, and the right holds about 50 oz for drip coffee. An included filter eliminates the taste of chlorine from tap water, so your coffee always tastes fresh.

Once every 300 coffees …

Delonghi recommends descaling the espresso machine and drip coffee unit about once every 300 coffees to prevent lime scale buildup, and the instruction manual includes detailed instructions on how to complete the descaling process. The espresso boiler should also be cleaned using a damp cloth and a brush – the instruction manual details the necessary steps. Finally, Delonghi includes instructions for a deep cleaning processes that involves cleaning the filter holder, frother, gasket, and other parts.

Removable Spill Tray

This tray catches any drips and spills. The filter holder cup, filters, drip tray, and water tank should be cleaned regularly. The drip coffee carafe can be cleaned by hand with soap and hot water.

Included Accessories

The Delonghi Caffe Nero comes with a water filter, permanent drip coffee filter, espresso tamper, double shot filter basket, portafilter, single shot/pod filter basket, measuring spoon, detailed instruction manual, and 1-year warranty.

Polly Ferguson How long does it take for the machine to warm up before being able to make espresso? I have read some manuals that specify 30 minutes or so, that's CRAZY. One or two minutes is about all I can wait...
9:01 PM 9-9-10
Eric Black Hi Polly...you are right, that is crazy. According to our testing, the machine will up to temperature (106 degrees) in 63 seconds. I hope that this helps. Thank you, Eric Black

Jeanette wilson "Delonghi combination espresso machine" I love extra foam on top of my cappuccino. Many machines don't provide adequate frothing ability. Can you assure me that this machine provides this feature? I'm looking forward to your response. Thank you, Jeanette

Tech Milano If you like a lot of foam on your cappuccino, you may want to look at getting something like this: http://www.wholelattelove.com/Capresso/cap_frothexpress.cfm That way you won't "run out of steam" as it were. Then you can just go with the Caffe Nero or a similar machine for brewing the espresso and get the best of both worlds. Hope this helps. =)

Erika Schutz I would like a combo coffee/cappuccino/grind machine, what would you recomend
11:03 AM 1-8-10
Todd Salzman Hi Erika, you said you were looking for a "combo coffee/cappuccino/grind machine". There are combo Coffee/cappuccino machines but none of them have a built in grinder in them like you asked for. If you want a combo machine I am afraid to say that there are not a lot of choices. For a combo machine this is a good choice since it is easy to use and will take up less space than two separate units. You can also get two units for the price of one.

David Tortora Can you tell me whatis meant by a "pump driven" expresso/cappuccino machine. Thank you. David Tortora
12:30 PM 1-2-10
Todd Salzman David, Espresso by definition is coffee brewed under pressure and there are few methods to build up this pressure. The "pump" driven machines are the best and easiest type to use. They use a pump to build up around 130 pounds of pressure for brewing. Other methods of building up the pressure are with steam or with a lever. The Lever machines do a nice job but require much more physical effort and are more difficult to use. The steam machines do not build up the proper pressure and produce the lowest quality espresso. You will find that most of the machines on the site are pump and almost always what we recommend.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

I'm on my second machine, and they have both quit working out of the blue. The heating element stops and it will not brew when it's broken. So twice now, I have had the same problem from two different machines. I hope that they will provide me with a full replacement of my money so I can purchase something else!

What a major disappointment. The coffee has been sub-par compared to our $25 GE drip, and the expresso is so-so. This morning the thing just quite, after about 6 months of use. It's going in the trash today.

When my husband bought this machine for me for my birthday, I opened the box and didnt think I would like it, but I gave it a shot, and liked it...Then I played around with it some more and now I LOVE IT! It is easy to use, the instructions are clear, and I love having a coffee pot with it. The instructions did mention that it had a 30 min. warm up for espresso, but I just wait a few minutes for the green light to turn on and I use it and it still taste great!

A real joy to use, easy to clean and simple to operate. Coffe maker strength selector is a real plus. Morning coffee never tasted so good. Built in tamper is very convenient. Hold for POD filters and another for ground coffee are excellent. The Crema produced is another real plus - the frother works well and is very easy to clean.
