The redesigned Delonghi Magnifica 3500 improves upon the original model with the addition of a stainless steel-lined brew boiler for increased durability. Paired with a separate boiler for steaming and frothing, there is no longer any wait time between brewing and steaming. The redesigned model also features an improved low-pitch conical burr grinder, and takes versatility to a higher level with a digital display and built-in automatic frother. With fully programmable brewing settings and one-touch cappuccinos and lattes, the Magnifica 3500 lets you customize your espresso drinks to accommodate a variety of tastes. The 3500 features a smoked silver exterior and stainless steel accents, so not only does it brew for perfection, it also looks great in the kitchen.
The Magnifica’s push-button brewing system lets you decide whether to brew 1 or 2 cups, and since you can select to brew from ½ oz to 6 oz for each cup, you can make up to 12 oz of delicious coffee in just 1 step. The internal burr-grinder on the DeLonghi Magnifica 3500 also allows you to choose from 10 different fineness settings so you will brew delicious-tasting espresso every time. This machine’s 2-step pre-infusion system preserves full coffee flavor, and its simple frothing system whips up velvety, creamy cappuccinos with ease.
The Magnifica 3500 is also equipped with a coffee bean hopper that holds up to 7 oz and is easy to load. This DeLonghi super automatic comes with an attachable hot water nozzle, which can be attached in place of the automatic frother. The 3500 also has a top-loading bypass doser to make entertaining a breeze when your guests prefer a decaffeinated espresso or gourmet preground coffee. Plus, with its instant hot water dispenser, the Magnifica 3500 will cater to a crowd that prefers tea, hot chocolate or café Americanos.
Thanks to DeLonghi’s uniquely designed, removable brewing system, the Magnifica 3500 makes cleaning and maintenance fast and convenient.
The DeLonghi Magnifica 3500 comes complete with its own coffee scoop, water hardness test kit, grinder cleaning brush and detailed instruction manual.
This DeLonghi super automatic gives you the freedom and flexibility to brew more than just espresso. The Magnifica 3500 has an automatic frother that can whip plain old milk into sensational cappuccinos and lattes at the press of a button. The Magnifica 3500 also has an instant hot water dispenser to use when your visitors prefer tea, hot chocolate or café Americanos. A preheat function also guarantees that this handy hot water dispenser is always ready to deliver.
With the Magnifica 3500, the ability to choose the amount of coffee you wish to brew, as well as its strength, is at your fingertips. Just enter your preferences using the convenient digital controls and the DeLonghi Magnifica 3500 snaps into motion to grind, tamp and brew your coffee. You can also adjust your machine to automatically start and stop so it can work around your schedule. All of the 3500’s functions will be shown on the built-in digital display panel as you make your choices, so you’ll always be informed during the brewing, steaming/frothing and cleaning processes.
With the Magnifica 3500’s low-pitch, professional burr grinder, you can fine-tune the coarseness of your grind at the turn of a dial. One click to the left will slow the delivery and create a finer grind for a creamier, rich espresso, while one click to the right will speed up the entire process for an espresso that’s not quite as strong.
The special pre-infusion cycle in the DeLonghi Magnifica pre-moistens coffee grounds automatically. This process locks in maximum flavor extraction and ensures that this machine produces golden crema topping- the essential ingredient of true espresso.
With the touch of a button, you can pour in a scoop of preground coffee to prepare a decaffeinated drink at the request of your guests. This highly desirable option makes the Magnifica a unique, fully loaded machine for just about any home environment.
The DeLonghi Magnifica 3500 has a built-in warming plate that will keep your coffee cups at an ideal temperature. Thanks to this warming plate, located on top of the machine, your coffee will maintain its aroma and taste because it is poured right into a warm cup.
The DeLonghi Magnifica has a hands-free design that steams and froths milk for cappuccinos, lattes and other hot drinks. The milk travels seamlessly from the attached milk container into the Magnifica 3500, where it is frothed or steamed. The 3500 even dispenses the finished product at the coffee dispenser, so you can make a milk and coffee drink from start to finish without ever moving your cup. This system is so convenient that it’s like having a barista at your beck and call.
The Magnifica’s detachable milk container can be replaced by an included hot water nozzle. This stainless steel nozzle into place without any tools, so you can have hot water at any time for tea, hot chocolate or soup.
The Magnifica 3500 instantly dispenses hot water for tea, hot chocolate and café Americanos. This feature gives you the option of pleasing a crowd no matter what their preference is.
The Magnifica 3500’s spacious reservoir holds 60 oz of water- enough to make 30 espressos. This water tank has an easy-to-read water level indicator and is removable so it is convenient for filling and cleaning.
The Magnifica 3500 has a built-in rinse cycle which automatically releases hot water into the machine after coffee is brewed, removing the residue that can keep your machine from performing at its best. There is also no guesswork when it comes to deciding when to decalcify the machine. An automatic decalcification indicator light will serve as a reminder, and the 3500’s digital display panel will walk you through the entire process.
The removable brew group makes it a snap to clean and maintain your DeLonghi Magnifica 3500. Simply open the access door behind the drip tray, grasp the two red release buttons and remove the group for easy rinsing and/or cleaning.
The internal dump box and drip tray are easily accessible. A red indicator light lets you know when the tray needs to be emptied, and another front light flashes when it is time to empty the 3500’s dump box.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.
I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

We have the version of the Magnifica without the automatic frother. It has been churning out about 40 shots per week (mostly doubles) for over 4 years without a hiccup. Excellent taste and quite consistent. It paid for itself within a year because we stopped going to coffee shops every day. We even use the bypass doser to make matte lattes. We have incredibly hard water and no filter but we decalcify whenever the machine tells us and everything has been fine. Our machine arrived DOA--would not pump water. I took it apart, ruining the warranty, I know, and found that a tiny plastic ball that serves as a check valve was stuck closed. Freed it and everything has been fine since then. The machine is a bit noisy for grinding and brewing but after you taste that first cup the noise becomes irrelevant.
We have had this machine over one year now and I must say, we love it!!! We are not the occassional cappuccino drinker, but rather the coffee addicts. Our machine runs at least 5x a day, making more than 2 cups in a row. When we have company, this machine runs non stop! We moved up from a semi automatic and have never looked back. Proper maintenance and you will have no issues ever! Piping hot, wonderful crema! Bravo Delonghi!

I started out with a La Pavoni PC16 manual machine, which was a good learning experience. But after a bad motorcycle day in 2007 and being confined to a wheel chair while a broken leg healed, a manual espresso machine wasn't practical. So I bought a the DeLonghi ESAM3500 Magnifica super automatic machine. The DeLonghi Magnifica makes espressos every bit as good as the La Pavoni; and unlike a lever machine, where EVERYTHING is critical, the DeLonghi is simply push a button. Cleaning is easy. Maintenance is minimal. I was so impressed that I bought a second one for use at my office. The biggest downside (besides the price) is the noise; the first time the grinder fired up my cats were terrified. Also, everybody at my work location can hear when I take an espresso break.

Its ease of use. Once you've got it programmed to your preferences, it will spoil you.
Don't forget to pop out and clean the diffusor about once a month. Consider using only distilled water.

I bought this machine just before Christmas 2008 from a Starbucks outlet. I like the odd latte but my passion in coffee is for a genuine Americano with good crema. When I made my first cup of Americano it was luke warm even though I had pre-heated the cup. I tried several times without luck. I decided to check the temperature of the water coming out and found the cause. It was making coffee at 75C rather than the 92C optimum temp for espresso. I contacted the company and was told the temp was factory set and there was nothing that could be done. I now have to heat my water in the Microwave and then get the coffee. Since then I have also had problems with receiving steamed milk. I am in the process of sorting this out with the company. I am disappointed to say the least with this machine and will not buy another DeLonghi machine.

Definitely the temperature of the water. More research should be doe on the optimum temp for espresso coffee. My research tells me 92C is the best.

I bought this machine 1 year ago today in a desperate attempt to curb a starbucks addiction that was emptying my wallet. My wife was skeptical that I would really quit cold turkey like that, but I assured her it was possible. I can say that in the past 12 months I have been to starbucks only twice (when I ran out of beans one morning) and I now prefer the coffee I make to theirs! I can't say enough good things about this marvel, from the auto cappicino function, to the super auto grind, tamp, brew, dispose process which is flawless! Seriously...this thing is a deal (and there are lots of deals out there now from what it looks like). I've compared the machine to the 2-3k jura machines and actually prefer the Delonghi.

It just works! Cleanup is simple and it alerts you when anything needs emptying or refilling. Oh and the autofrother is not to be missed...its nothing short of miraculous
Coffee Lover
Variety of espresso beans (though I really like Caribou's espresso roast)
The steam is not quite hot enough which is typical of most superautos, but that is about all that I would say.

For simplicity and ease of use there is nothing better. Maintenance is a breeze and the frothing system is pretty good and very easy to maintain. Mechanically however I find the Magnifica machines to be subpar. My 3300 started leaking from the inside in 10 months. Having made the mistake of buying it on Amazon instead of WLL it took three months to get matters resolved. With my return check I put a bit more with it and bought a 3500. In the last 10 months I have had to replace the frothing lid twice and now the machine is sitting in my garage as I wait for the packing material from Delonghi to send the machine to a repair shop since it will no longer brew. I am very carefull about maintenance and this problem should not have occured. The lines to the brew group have clogged with deposits from the water but yet Delonghi's decalcification program does not clear the brew group water supply lines and Delongho says not to trun the decalcifier through the brew group. All in all not a good program.

Ease of use and the quality of the expresso is not bad.
Fins someway to decalcify the water lines from the heater to the brew group.

Mechanically this machine is on the cheap side and from my experiences you can expect problems. The delay caused from jumping through all of the hoops when you need service will leave you without a machine for at least a couple of months.

This was our first foray into a 'real' espresso machine. We really felt that this machine would be perfect after reading the reviews. However, I have to say that I am not getting the latte that I am hoping for. The froth is just not hot enough, and sometimes the espresso isn't either. We have made adjustments and changed coffees, but it just isn't worth the extra $$. Yes, it is super easy to use and pretty fast to produce cup after cup. But our main use is personal, so for that amount of money, I want my drink to be perfect. It does produce a great regular cup of coffee and a decent espresso. Unfortunately, we also had to replace the milk container within a month- it is very cheaply made. And six months later we now have a 'stone' in the grinder - not covered under warranty and requires me to send it to NY. Bummer! We are very diligent about cleaning and descaling.

Friends of ours have a super automatic and so when our awful drip coffee maker died, we decided we needed decent coffee. We miss coffee in Paris and wanted to find something that would bring us that same quality. So we plunked down the cash and we haven't had a bad cup yet! Lovin' the ease, the taste and the consistency.

My decision to purchase a super automatic espresso maker was born out of the want of a good espresso shot anytime of day, frustration using a stovetop espresso maker, a desire to offer others a varied number of coffees while entertaining, all doing so fast and easy. That led me to purchasing DeLonghi's Magnifica 3500 super automatic espresso coffee machine. The first thing that I'll say about the DeLonghi is "HOLY COW" this thing is amazingly simple to set up and use. The machines default settings can be changed. After some trial and error I soon had pretty good cup of espresso dialed in. Its single button cappuccino/latte feature is brilliant. A few issues with the way the DeLonghi attempts to brew espresso however. With true espresso, water is heated very close to boiling is then pumped through very finely ground espresso beans as to release their oils creating Crema . The Magnifica is not capable of brewing coffee in this manner. Its water temperature is much lower and it's unable to grind its bean so fine. Despite that, I would say that it's espresso comes close to that of a stovetop.

DeLonghi EASM-3500 Magnifica Super Automatic Espresso Machine is just great because it can create different kinds of coffee and because of speed and ease that it makes them.
Attempts to grind Spanish/Dark French Roast beans at the machine's finest setting will cause a clog. Upon experimentation, I settled on a City Roast which the machine is able to grind at its finest setting.

It's painful to drop this much money on a coffee maker. Your friends really wonder about you. But every day, I drive past two Starbucks on the way to work and save 4 or 5 dollars. I set the machine to turn on right before I get up..I plug the milk pitcher in, hit the button and (especially with the high quality vivace beans) I have a drink that makes me forget all about my starbucks' fix. It's easy to use, flexible, and best of all easy to clean.

The automatic milk frother is very easy to use and requires about as little maintenance as you could find on a machine like this.
Use high quality beans to avoid that "burnt" taste common in the chain shops. Vivace vita is pricey but worth it to me. Im not quite sure why one would buy the "grand dama" for almost 1000 more, except maybe it looks better. Im sure ive already saved a couple hundred dollars in coffee shop trips. I would not hesitate to buy this machine.

I went Super Automatic because friends and family like lattes and cappuccinos. Whipping up 8 lattes is easy with minimal mess. Double boiler helps froth/steam milk immediately after you make espresso. I also thought I would be giving up good espresso shots by going with a super automatic. However, this machine makes consistently good espresso, and I look forward to my coffee every morning.

Ease of use. No mess/no fuss one button lattes and espressos. Easy to program to your tastes. Auto on/off function.
Less oily beans help with the grinder. Illy seems to work well. Heat up cups with boiling water before the espresso shot. Cup warmer will not do the trick.

The Magnifica 3500 is "Magnifique". Makes delicious and easy Capuccinos early in the morning when your eyes are hardly opened. Open the fridge to get the milk pitcher which fits in the machine already hot, take a cup also hot from the top of the Magnifica and press "Capuccino". 30 seconds after you have a hot and delicious capuccino. If you are in the mood for a strong coffee press one button and the LCD screen will guide you in your choice. Maintenance could not be easier: The LCD screen tells you what and when to do it. And the price is right. This "One Push Capuccino Machine" is the cheapest by far on the market at the present.
1 - 6 months
Easy everything: Easy to use, easy to clean, totally trouble-free.
For your first Capuccino I found out that pushing first for few seconds the "Clean" button on the milk pitcher helps get a better frothed milk. Place your cups on the top of the machine the night before and use thin wall cups since they get warmer. Do not wait for the LCD to show "Add Beans" since the grinder turns on empty for half a minute before triggering the LCD screen and may get damaged.

A more versatile timer. The Magnifica has only a time "ON" and then a lenght of 1, 2 or 3 hours. A 2 or 3 zones timer would be nice for the after lunch espresso. I have set my timer at "On' at 6.00 AM and when I want my Capuccino at 7.00AM it is fine. But then the machine goes off at 9.00AM and i have to remember to reactivate at noon for my espresso.

Well only one week in and we love the machine, still fiddling with grind setting and strength etc but we can get a great cup of coffee SOOOOOOOO quickly and fuss free. we have two kids and busy lives and often have people over. i wanted a mchine where everyone could have a coffee after a meal and i could still enjoy it with them rather than still barisa ing myself into the sunset in the kitchen or cleaning up rather than sitting down with everyone. my big thing about entertaining is to spend time with your guests not preparing or fussing around. something about the journey being just as rewarding as the destination. (ie the food / coffee) anyway this machine lets us enjy just that. we have many friends that love their coffee (im talking proper european espresso now not that starbucks sh*t and they have all been very very impressed with it. what more can i say. easy to maintain and clean and use. obviously we cant say too much about reliability right now but the build quality and design seems up to it cheers jas

mjackson ♦ Darrell,
There is no way to really clean the grinder. Some of the older machines you would be able to take apart the grinder. On most of the newer machines that is not possible. My best advice is to not use a really oily bean as in the long run it may cause issues.
Is there any way to make the frothed/steamed milk come out hotter? The temperature of the espresso shot itself is fine, but the frothed milk created by the built-in frother is just "warm" at best.

mjackson ♦ Eugene,
There is not a way on the machine to adjust steam or milk temperature. If you do not think is hot enough you may want to try heating the milk a little first. It does a good job but is not designed to make the milk really hot.
I am very disappointed in my new machine. The shots are great, but the milk is not creamy enough. I keep it very cold like I'm supposed to, but it is somewhat runny, not creamy. Any ideas?

TechMilanoItalia Tracy, what kind of milk are you using? 2%, Whole, Skim? You may need to clean the lid of the milk container. Just make sure you're set to "Cappuccino" on the little slider. Try that as well.
