The DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima PLUS EN520BL has a clean, compact, functional design, with easy-to-use illuminated controls. A thermoblock heating element and 19-bar high pressure pump produce the perfect extraction for pre-packed, single serving Nespresso capsules. Straightforward programming and multiple brewing options mean you can dispense drinks quickly, simply, and easily without the fuss and mess of grinding, measuring, and tamping grounds. With a 12 oz automated milk system and a 30 oz water reservoir, espresso and milk are dispensed together into your waiting cup, cutting down on time and simplifying the whole process. And while the machine is convenient, this doesn’t mean you run out of options quickly – you can brew cappuccinos, latte macchiatos, short espresso, long espresso, or dispense hot milk.
The EN520BL is UL approved as well, making it a great fit for home kitchens and small offices alike.
The first thing you’ll notice about the DeLonghi Nespresso Lattissima Plus EN520BL’s attractive compact design is the coffee spout. It accommodates cups of every size, from the smallest espresso cup to a double caffé lungo, by simply removing the drip tray for extra room. To the right of the coffee dispenser is the automated one-touch milk dispenser with an innovative flip out delivery tube and see-through removable carafe, which can be easily detached and placed in a refrigerator when not in use.
At the top and just behind the milk carafe are the illuminated keys and automatic controls, enabling you to choose your favorite drink (cappuccino, latte macchiato, espresso, long coffee or hot milk) in a simple and intuitive way. The water reservoir, while at the rear of the machine, is easy to lift off for refilling or draining, and has a flip open top so you can refill it while it is still on the machine. A front slide out collection tank will hold up to 10 spent-capsules for ease of disposal.
Other well-engineered features include a storage area for the descaling pipe and cable storage underneath the machine to adjust cable length and keeping precious counter space neat and tidy.
This intuitive and user-friendly design makes operating the machine simple and enjoyable.
Why a capsule brewing system? Convenience! – With no grinding, measuring, or tamping involved; all you have to do is select your favorite flavor and place the capsule inside the machine. Nespresso capsules are specially designed so just the right amount of water flows through them during the brew cycle; then they are automatically ejected into an internal dump box after brewing is completed. Capsules store easily and protect the coffee from any harmful effects of moisture, light, and air.
The hardest part of brewing on the Lattissima is deciding which Nespresso capsule blend you prefer. Once you’ve made your decision, open the lever located in the center, just over the coffee spout, insert the capsule, and close the lever. Press the espresso or lungo (small or large cup) button, and the button blinks as the machine brews espresso directly into your cup. If you prefer a cappuccino or latte, make sure the milk system is inserted, and press the cappuccino or latte button. Milk and espresso are then dispensed into your cup. Once this is complete, lift the same lever again to eject the capsule into the internal container, and close the lever again. You’re all done!
It’s so easy! Place your cup below the coffee spout, and move the milk spout so it is pointed into the cup. Select either the cappuccino or latte macchiato button, and your preference is dispensed into your waiting cup.
Knowing how to froth and steam your own milk is undeniably a skill, and not everyone has the time and patience to perfect it. That’s where the patented milk system comes in. Adjust the frother regulator depending on the quantity you want, and the kind of milk you’re using (skim milk produces more froth than whole).
The Nespresso Lattissima comes with pre-programmed volumes for espresso, lungo, and hot water, but that doesn’t mean you’re limited to them! If you want to change the volume of your coffee, insert a capsule and press and hold the button corresponding to the drink you want to adjust. Release the button once the desired volume has been reached. The flow of water will stop and the button will blink 3 times to confirm the new volume has been set. Adjusting the hot water is even easier – just press and hold the hot water button until you have the volume you want. The button will blink 3 times, confirming the new volume. If you change your mind about the new volume, it’s easy to reset the factory settings by pressing the standby button for 5 seconds.
The automated milk system allows you to press and hold the button labeled “clean” located on the front of the milk system to the left of the spout in order to rinse out the milk. The 12 oz milk container can then be removed and stored in the refrigerator, or cleaned in the dishwasher. The only thing left for you to do now is use a damp cloth to wipe down the connecting tubes where the milk container was inserted.
It’s easy to keep your Nespresso Lattissima clean with the removable drip tray and dump box. If you cannot close the lever after you insert your capsule, this means that the dump box is filled with spent capsules, so it’s time to remove and rinse the container. A drip tray level indicator shows when the drip tray needs to be emptied, so just remove the drip tray cover and rinse. You can also remove the drip tray to accommodate larger cups.
The removable 30 oz water tank is easy to empty and rinse by hand. Do not use a dishwasher to clean the tank. Remember, clean fresh water is important for a great tasting shot of espresso. When the water tank is empty, the milk recipes and coffee buttons will flash for 5 seconds to alert you.
Periodic descaling is desirable if you want to keep your machine operating in peak condition. This process removes the buildup of minerals in your machine’s brewing components, and only takes about 20 minutes. You should descale about once every 3-4 months, though the exact frequency of your descaling will depend on the hardness of your water.
