The FrancisFrancis! X7.1 iperEspresso, designed by Luca Trazzi, is a quintessential expression of the Italian ideal of style incorporating function. It has a specific purpose; to brew great drinks using the Illy iperEspresso capsules, and it does it extremely well while looking great in any setting.

Protected by five international patents, the heart of Illy iperEspresso is its proprietary capsule with the unique iperChamber™ where Illy coffee extraction takes place in two stages. In the first stage, hyper-infusion, hot water under ultra-high pressure mixes with the coffee under optimal conditions to enhance extraction of precious flavors and aromas, creating a richly complex flavor. In the second stage, emulsification, coffee is forced through the patented e-valve™ at the bottom of the capsule, mixing the aromatic oils with air to produce a full-bodied espresso and a thick, long-lasting velvety créma.

Capsules contain approximately seven grams of perfectly roasted and expertly ground and tamped 100% Arabica Illy coffee. Available in medium roast for a sweet, balanced, pleasantly nuanced flavor, dark roast for a more intense and robust flavor and decaffeinated.

peter geoffrion how is this different than the x7......? what do you get for the extra $100 thanks

Mark Jackson Peter, There are some differences. The X7 has more metal, a better steam wand as well as a brass boiler. The less expensive 7.1 has a thermal block boiler and is not as heavy or as heavy duty as its more expensive counter part. I hope this helps.
