The Gaggia Espresso Dose features a dosage button that allows the user to set their preferred water volume dosage for one or two cups of espresso – a convenient twist on the classic semi-automatic Gaggia machine. Housed inside the warm silver ABS exterior lies a durable stainless steel boiler, the heart of brewing and steaming. Stainless steel is an ideal boiler material – it provides excellent heat retention for properly extracted espresso, and it resists scale buildup and deterioration. Not to forget about those cappuccino and latte lovers, the Gaggia Espresso Dose uses a Pannarello frothing wand so you can foam and steam milk easily.

Housing and Construction

The control panel is located on the top of the machine, and features straightforward push buttons as well as the steam valve knob to control your brewing and steaming. The ABS plastic housing is durable and easy to clean – just wipe down with a damp cloth when needed. The Gaggia Espresso Dose’s stainless steel boiler is a standout feature, especially on a machine with such a small footprint. Even though the Dose is compact, it still provides superior power for making steam and hot water.

The Gaggia Espresso Dose offers you three filter baskets to choose from – single, double, or pod – so select the appropriate one and insert it into the portafilter. Insert the portafilter into the chrome plated brass group head, and turn the machine on – it should take about 6 minutes to warm up. Once it’s warmed up, add coffee to your portafilter and tamp down using the included tamper. Replace the portafilter and press the coffee dispensing button. If your dosage is already set, it will stop when the dosage is reached; if the dosage is not set, press the coffee dispensing button again to stop the flow of coffee. Keep in mind that you should never dispense coffee for longer than 40 seconds.

Programable Water Dosage

To program your coffee dosage, add grounds to the portafilter and insert as you normally would. Press and hold the coffee dispensing button – after about three seconds the pilot light will start flashing, and the water pump will start up. Coffee will begin dispensing, so once you have your desired amount, release the coffee dispensing button to stop the flow of coffee. Your water dosage is now set.

Pods or Ground?

Coffee pods are pre-ground and pre-tamped single servings of espresso – you don’t have to worry about grinding, measuring, and tamping. While they are more convenient than using grounds, they also give you less control over each drink. It’s not a bad idea to try both pods and grounds to see which you prefer – the Gaggia Espresso Dose is compatible with both.

Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water

Pannarello Frothing Wand

The Pannarello attachment on the frothing wand injects hot steam into your milk, making frothing and steaming for cappuccinos and lattes a cinch. Just press the steam switch, and wait for the temperature ready light to illuminate. Open the steam valve knob to release steam, and when you’re finished, close the knob and press the steam switch again. Remember to wipe down the steam wand when you’re finished to prevent milk residue from building up.

Hot Water Dispenser

The Gaggia Espresso Dose’s steam wand also acts as hot water dispenser – great for americanos, tea, or hot cocoa. Just wait for the machine to reach brewing temperature, open the steam knob, and press the hot water button. After you have your desired amount of hot water, press the hot water button again and close the steam knob. To prevent any damage to the boiler, don’t dispense water for longer than 40 seconds.

Features & Benefits: Care, Maintenance, and Other

Water Reservoir

To refill your 42 oz water reservoir, simply remove it by lifting it up from the back of the machine. Gaggia recommends using purified or bottled water in the reservoir to decrease the frequency with which you’ll need to descale. Check your user manual for detailed, straightforward instructions on how to descale your Gaggia Espresso Dose.

The drip tray and cover have a water level indicator, which rises as the drip tray fills. When it becomes visible, the drip tray is filled and needs to be emptied and washed in warm, soapy water. To keep your machine looking its best, use a damp cloth to wipe down the body of the machine. The seal inside of the brewing head should be cleaned, and the shower disk should be unscrewed and cleaned periodically depending on the frequency of use.

Included Accessories

The Gaggia Espresso Dose comes with a detailed instruction manual, portafilter, single shot basket, double shot basket, pod basket, filter, tamper, measuring spoon, and warranty.
