Features

WHOLE LATTE LOVE EXCLUSIVE

note: 2 year warranty on NEW machines only!

Created with ease-of-use and convenience in mind, the Gaggia Unica is equipped with everything you need to go from bean to cup. It has automated grinding, tamping and brewing capabilities as well as has a straight-forward interface perfect for home use. Reasonably priced, the Unica makes the most of its small footprint, integrating solid features such as a ceramic burr grinder, 15 bar pump, swivel base, removable brew group and Pannarello steam wand. This well-rounded espresso machine actually shares the same internal components as the high-end Gaggia Platinum line; at a fraction of the price, the Unica is recommended for value-conscious coffee lovers.

We recommend using light to medium roasted coffee beans for best Unica grinder performance. Dark roasts with more surface oil on the bean, or oily beans in general tend to inhibit the grinder performance.

Brewing

The Gaggia Unica has been fitted with a stainless steel boiler and 15-bar pump. The front panel of the machine features a straightforward interface consisting of a LED display, with illuminated icons, and four control buttons. Power, brewing and steaming options each have their own dedicated button to make machine operation a breeze. You can opt to make a single or double espresso by pressing one of the two coffee buttons located on the front panel. Both buttons can be programmed to dispense the desired drink volume for your convenience. Best of all, the coffee dispenser can be raised or lowered to allow you to accommodate tall and short cups alike.

Grinder and Bean Hopper

Featuring a ceramic burr grinder, the Unica minimizes heat transfer to protect the flavor and aroma integrity of your coffee. There are 5 grind settings to choose from, allowing you to fine-tune grind fineness as needed. The grinder takes full advantage of the Gaggia Adapting System to adjust grinding duration and rpm to ensure that the proper coffee volume is ground every time, regardless of the roast.

We recommend using light to medium roasted coffee beans for best grinder performance. Dark roasts with more surface oil on the bean, or oily beans in general tend to inhibit the grinder performance.

Once your coffee has been ground, it is automatically dosed, tamped and brewed, according to the drink selected, for your convenience. The Gaggia Unica also has an 8.8oz bean hopper, with an aroma saving lid, to let you to safely store up to ½ pound of whole bean coffee directly in the machine.

Steam and Hot Water Features

The 1.7-liter water tank is accessible from the side for easy refilling. You can dispense hot water for an Americano, tea or soup directly through the steam wand. Should you choose to make a latte or cappuccino, the steam wand is also equipped with a Pannarello attachment to create rich steamed and frothed milk.

Rotating Base and Drip Tray

The base features three-heavy duty wheels for maximum mobility. The Gaggia Unica’s clever design lets you rotate it as necessary or even slide it down the counter without having to lift machine. Gaggia has also equipped the Unica an easy-to-remove drip tray for hassle-free maintenance.

Cleaning and Maintenance Alerts

The Unica features a series of alerts designed to let you know when the machine requires attention. Dedicated icons, located within the LCD display, will alert you when the machine needs to be descaled, the water tank should be refilled or the bean hopper is empty. There is also a ventilate notification.

Housing

This super-automatic espresso machine has a durable Thermoplastic exterior, with a matte silver front panel and black side panels. It weighs 18.8 pounds and measures 12.6”W x 14.6”H x 18.1”D.

Jocelynn Holleran Hello, We purchase a refurbished Unica about 1 month ago and yesterday it stopped grinding beans. It is going through the cycle but not grinding anything and then clear water comes out of the machine. What should we do first? Thank you, Jocelynn

Mark Jackson Jocelynn, You may want to try making the grind coarser and see if that frees it up. You may also need to clean your brew group as well. I will email you somethings to try. If that does not help call our technical support line.

Steven Turner We are very happy with our Gaggia Unica. We need to do our first descale, but I'm not sure how much of the Gaggia 250 ml Decalcifier to use. Alternatively, do the Gaggia Coffee Clean Tablets work just as well? Finally, does the Mavea Water Filter definitely fit the Unica water holder?
6:46 PM 3-3-12
Mark Jackson Steven, Use half of bottle of descaler. The cleaning tablets are really to use for the cleaning of the brew group. They really do not help the descaling process. Yes the Mavea filters will fit and do a great job of helping to keep your machine working properly.

Melvin Perry I just read your page on the Gaggia Unico -- you say "small footprint", but its actually larger than the Vision! Do you have any videos on it? Or one comparing it to the Vision? I've been lusting after the Vision, but feel guilty since my old Gaggia Classic works fine. Great website!! Keep up the good work Melvin

Michael Rosso Melvin...Thank you for your interest in the Gaggia Unica. The Unica measures H14.75 x W12.5 x D17.5, and we currently have a video on our sight for the Gaggia Unica. I hope this helps, however if you have anymore questions please feel to contact us directly at 1-888-411-5282. Thanks.

Daniel Wildes I am looking to purchase my first espresso machine and was looking at some of the $200 and under Gaggia's, but when I also figure in the cost of a good espresso grinder I would be paying about as much for the Unica as the single machine/grinder combo. Am I better off going with the Unica?; the all-in-one does appeal to me but if a separate grinder and semi-auto machine will give me a better cup than I want that. Thanks.
5:00 PM 1-30-12
Mark Jackson Daniel, I do like the Unica. But I prefer the traditional method of making espresso. I would go with a Gaggia and a good grinder like the Gaggia MDF. It will give you more control, produce a better shot as well as giving you the ability to brew double shots and you can only brew a single shot. I think it is also more fun to truly make your own shot. I hope that helps and let us know if you haev any more questions.

Daniel Bethke What cleaning and descaling products are best for this machine? How often do you suggest?
10:52 AM 12-31-11
Mark Jackson Daniel, There actually are quite a few to use. You may want to try using a water filter as well. If you use the Mavea filter see here- http://www.wholelattelove.com/Gaggia/mavea_intenza.cfm This filter will help you cut down on the amount you need to descale. If you do need to descale we would recommend these two products in powder form and they are a citrus based descaler. Cleancaf - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/cleancaf.cfm Or Dezcal see here - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/urnex_dezcal.cfm. If you don't use the Mavea then I would descale every ten weeks to twelve depending on use and how hard your water is. I hope this helps.

C S Hi! I have a question regarding the differences between the Brera and the Unica. On the Brera there appears to be a control on the volume of espresso in a dose (I think it might be called Optidose control?) Is there a corresponding control on the Unica? Am I correct in assuming that I could program the duration of a shot on the Unica? For example, could I program it to 27"? Thanks!
3:02 PM 12-23-11
Mark Jackson Carla They are both good machines, but there is some differences between the machines. You can adjust the dose or the amount of coffee in the Brera between 7 -10.5 grams per serving. The Unica will give you 7 grams each shot. The Brera also has a bypass doser so you can put a pre-ground coffee in and brew it. This feature is great for those that like to drink decaf. They do have the same grinder and will both make very good shots and coffee. You can not control the shot time by time you can only control the amount of water that is dispensed. The grind setting will give you the most control over your shot. On the Brera you can also control the quality of the shot by changing the amount of coffee in each shot. Each machine will work well but the Brera gives you more options to control you coffee. Feel free to ask any additional questions. Happy Brewing!

michael brown What is the maximum dispensing volume; the buttons are programmable, but can I program a 12oz single crema?
1:05 AM 12-12-11
Michael Rosso Michael...Thank you for your interest in the Gaggia Unica. The Buttons come pre programed from the factory, however as you posted they are programmable. You could program it to make a 12oz. single crema, but I would program it for a 6oz. crema and hit the button twice. The reason I would program the 6oz. crema and hit the button twice so you do not over extract the grounds making it bitter, and at the same time dilute the drink. Thanks.

michael brown Can I connect the Gaggia Unica Espresso Machine directly to a water line from my RO filter?
10:22 PM 12-11-11
Michael Rosso Michael...Thank you for your interest in the Gaggia Unica. I am sorry to say that the Gaggia Unica like most home model espresso machines are not plumbable. If you really want an espresso machine that you can connect to your water line, I suggest you look at either the Jura XS90 or the Saeco Royal Coffee Bar. Both of these machines are plumbable. If you have anymore questions please feel to contact us directly at 1-888-411-5282 option 1. Thanks.

Maria Dorsett What are the major differences between the Gaggia Unica and the Saeco Vienna Plus? Is it worth the $150 difference in price? Also, why is this Gaggia model not widely available from other vendors? Is this model being discontinued? Thanks!
10:10 PM 12-6-11
Michael Rosso Maria...Thank you for your interest in the Gaggia Unica. I believe the Unica to be worth the extra money. The Unica is a new model from Gaggia. Here are some upgrades over the Saeco Vienna. It has ceramic burrs which will grinder quieter and heat the coffee beans less when grinding. The steam wand is easier to froth with, and it has two programmable buttons for drink sizes. I know Gaggia is available through other vendors, maybe not widely. If you have any more questions please free to post to our Super Wall again or contact us directly at 1-888-411-5282 option 1. Thanks.

Rick Byrnes What's the insider vibe on the Unica? I like the price. I've got an older Gaggia Synchrony that a friend gifted me a year ago. Love it, but the steam wand doesn't work, and it's a bit huge, so I'm in the market. Does this machine make you wait to steam or does it have a double boiler? Rick
10:49 AM 12-3-11
Michael Rosso Rick...Thank you so much for your wall post and the interest in the Gaggia Unica. The Unica is kind of a cross between the Gaggia Platinum series machines and the Gaggia Brera. The Unica uses ceramic burrs for grinding beans, and has two programmable buttons for drink sizes. The Unica does not have a bypass doser like the Gaggia Platinum and the Gaggia Brera. The Reservoir holds 57 ounces of water and uses only a single boiler for both brewing and steaming. So in response to your last question, by having only a single boiler you will have to wait a short period after you brew your shot of espresso, before you can steam/froth your milk. If you have anymore questions please feel free to contact us either on our Super Wall or by phone at 1-88-411-5282 option 1. Thanks.

I love this machine!! Simple, easy to use and makes a great espresso. I was worried because it's cheaper than other machines, but so glad I got it. Also I'm very happy to purchase this from wholelattelove. Their customer service is excellent. Their return or exchange is very easy and smooth without any hustles. If I decide to upgrade machine with more features, I'll buy it from this company because of their excellent customer service.

This machine makes great espresso. It's cheap, but uses the same 'guts' as the expensive Gaggias do. It is exclusive to wholelattelove in the U.S., but is sold all over the world and not manufactured for them alone. I've had 3 Jura Capressos and like coffee from this one better than ones that cost 3 times as much. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive models, so it costs a lot less, but it makes great coffee.. It's simple like an iPhone is simple. It does just what I want and nothing more.

Have had this machine for just about two months. I really wanted a super auto but couldn’t spend the big bucks. The Unica has proven to be a great machine and I really have no complaints about the quality of the espresso I have been getting….ten times better then what I was getting at the local café.

We bought the Gaggia Unica a couple of months ago and love it. It makes great coffee and is easy to use. The machine fits great on our counter and has been very reliable. I'm glad we did our research and went with the Gaggia. It has met all our expectations.

I have been brewing espresso for some time with my Gaggia Coffee. After many years of use I decided that I wanted to look into a super automatic machine. After many hours of research I cam across the Unica. I have had the machine for a little over a week now and could not be happier. The Unica produces a great shot of espresso and does a good job steaming milk for the occasional latte.
