Gaggia Platinum Vision
Gaggia Platinum Vision - Introduction

Features

The Gaggia Platinum Vision uses a Rapid Steam boiler system, utilizing a stainless steel boiler so you can switch back and forth between brewing and steaming in mere moments, without lengthy cool down or heat up time in between. This system provides the power behind each shot of espresso, fine tuning and perfecting the temperature. As for the water pressure, the Gaggia Platinum Vision provides a maximum of 15 bars of pressure, more than what you’ll need to pull each shot.

Because the Gaggia Platinum Vision isn’t about getting what you need—it’s about getting what you want, and what you deserve. As you choose and program your beverage using the black and white touch screen, remember this: luxury is the true heart of espresso.

Features and Benefits: Coffee

Design

Simplicity and essential lines – that’s how Gaggia describes the design of their Platinum Vision machine. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the large touch screen; below this screen is the coffee dispenser and Espresso Plus System beverage strength dial. To the left of this dispenser is the steam wand with Panarello frothing attachment, and to the right of the touch screen is a cup icon and arrows for raising and lowering the cup tray. The Gaggia Platinum Vision rests on a revolving plate, so you can turn it to reach the side or back of the machine – almost like a lazy Susan.

Touch Screen

The large black and white touch screen shows three cups for small espresso, medium coffee, and large coffee, and in the top left corner displays a steam icon. Below the cups are the words “explain icons,” a clock, and “go to menu.” If you press “explain icons,” the icons are replaced with words, so it will say “small coffee” “medium coffee” “large coffee” and “steam wand.” Pressing the clock allows you to change the clock settings. Pressing “go to menu” takes you to the programming menu, where you can set features such as language, temperature, coffee dose, display, time, view the number of drinks made, and perform cleaning functions.

Brewing

To brew, press the cup corresponding to the type of coffee you want. If you want two of that drink, press the button twice – the machine will show two cups, then brew and dispense your preferred beverage. If you change your mind while the machine is brewing, press the words “coffee stop” that appear on screen while the machine is brewing, and your beverage will stop dispensing.

Rapid Steam Boiler System

The Rapid Steam boiler system reduces the wait time between coffee and steam delivery to just a few seconds, while the stainless steel boiler retains heat and resists wear. By cutting out the down time between brewing and steaming, the Rapid Steam boiler system allows you to deliver the beverage you want, when you want it.

Ceramic Burr Grinder

The ceramic burr grinder results in a consistent, static-free grind – and it works quietly. Insert beans into the sealable bean hopper, which holds 8.8 oz of beans. This clear plastic hopper allows you to monitor the bean levels easily, and the machine will alert you with a “add coffee beans” message when the hopper runs low. Each time you brew, the Gaggia Platinum Vision grinds beans for that shot, ensuring the freshest taste. The grind setting can be adjusted between coarse, medium, and fine using the included grinder adjustment tool.

Bypass Doser

The bypass doser is convenient for when you or your guests prefer a blend other than what is already in the hopper. Just open up the bypass doser, the circular shoot within the bean hopper, and measure out a scoop your ground coffee using the included spoon. Select “pre-ground coffee” in the programming menu as detailed in your product manual, and brew as you normally would.

Opti-Dose System

You can customize the amount of espresso per shot from 7 – 10.5 grams by pressing the icon of the beverage you wish to adjust for two seconds, then select the quantity of coffee to be ground. From now on, this new dosage will be indicated on the touch screen by a difference in the darkness of the cup – if the cup is at its darkest color, the brew will be stronger, and if it it is lighter, the brew will be milder.

Espresso Plus System

A dial located on the coffee dispenser allows you to adjust the body and intensity of each drink, even while it’s brewing. Leave the dial pointed to the center for a regular strength drink, but turn it to the left for a more mild brew or to the right for a stronger one.

Cup Lift

Your cups rest on a height-adjustable drip tray, which can be raised or lowered electronically using the arrow buttons to the right of the touch screen. Remember to empty and clean the cup tray daily with running water.

Active Cup Warmer

The electrically heated stainless steel cup warmer means that you can display your demitasse cups whenever you want. Brewing espresso into a warm cup preserves the temperature, and the crema, better than brewing into a cold cup, so if you choose not to warm your cups on the cup warmer, remember to rinse them with hot water before brewing. Your cup warming settings can be changed in the programming menu to always on, always off, or off while in stand-by.

Features and Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water

Pannarello Frothing Wand

The Gaggia Platinum Vision’s frothing wand rotates out, so you can froth and steam with ease. The Pannarello attachment makes frothing and steaming even easier, especially if you’re just beginning. To steam, press the steam icon. This takes you to the steam/hot water menu – press the word “steam” in the top right corner of the screen, and open the steam knob located on the left side of the machine to the steam icon. Steam will begin dispensing. When you have your desired amount, close the steam wand and exit out of the steam menu. Remember to wipe down the steam wand with a damp cloth after using it to prevent milk residue buildup.

Hot Water

Your frothing wand also doubles as a hot water dispenser for tea, a café americano, or hot cocoa. Enter the steam menu by pressing on the steam icon, but instead of pressing the word “steam” press the words “hot water” right under the word “steam.” Open the steam knob to the steam icon, and hot water will be dispensed – close the steam knob and exit out of the steam menu when you’re done.

Features and Benefits: Care, Maintenance & Other

Water System with Aqua Prima Water Filter

The removable water reservoir holds 57 oz of water, and is located on the left side of the machine for easy access – you’ll know it’s running low when the words “fill water tank” appear on screen. The Aqua Prima water filter located inside your reservoir prevents impurities in your tap water from altering the taste of your drink, as well as increases the length of time between descaling cycles. When the filter needs to be replaced, the words “change water filter” appear, and when your machine needs to be descaled, the word “descale” will appear on screen.

Removable Brew Group

It’s a good idea to clean the brew group weekly – open the door on the right side of the machine to remove the brew group, and rinse it with running lukewarm water. Once it dries, you can replace it. After about 500 brewing cycles, Gaggia recommends lubricating it with the included oil before replacing.

Internal Drip Tray and Internal Coffee Ground Container

When the display screen reads “empty coffee grounds drawer,” open the side door to remove and empty the coffee grounds container. It holds 14 spent pucks, but make sure you remove it when the machine is on – otherwise it won’t record that the container was emptied. When the screen reads “empty drip tray,” open the side door to access the internal drip tray under the brew group. This is distinct from the drip tray located on the front of the machine – the external drip tray prevents spills from reaching your counter tops, while the internal drip tray catches water left over from the brewing cycle. You’ll know the external drip tray needs to be emptied when the water level indicator rises.

Included Accessories

The Gaggia Platinum Vision comes with an Aqua Prima water filter, a measuring scoop for the bypass doser, a water hardness testing strip, a key for adjusting the caliber of the grinder, oil for the brew group, and an electrical cable.

Gaggia Platinum Vison Review

Things I like About This Product:

Touch Screen Display
Extremely intuitive and makes for very easy programming and initial set up. Also makes the machine very easy for guests to use. I suggest programming the first cup as a double shot of espresso, the second cup as an 8oz cafe crema, and the third to use as a double shot of espresso using the bypass doser. The touch screen also makes diagnosis of service easy, i.e.,messages that tell you to fill water reservoir, empty dredge drawer, descale.

Removable Brew Group
Makes for easy cleaning both of the brew group and inside the brewing area. Once a week I simply remove the brew group and rinse with warm water. I also like to use a small painters brush to brush out coffee grounds between the cracks inside the machine once I remove the brew group. I then wipe the area out with a paper towel. The removable brew group makes cleaning access very easy.

Ceramic Burr Grinder
Ceramic generally has a longer life than steel burrs. Ceramic burrs also keeps the coffee cool by limiting the amount of heat transferred from the burrs to the grinds. There is a noticeable difference in the reduced noise level produced by ceramic burrs as well.

photoFresh Ground Coffee
As opposed to older Gaggia models and many other super-automatics, the grinder on this machine is positioned directly above the brew group. This means that each cup of coffee uses fresh ground coffee, not stored ground coffee like some other models. This is particularly important when you drink your first cup of the day to insure that you are not drinking stale coffee ground the day before.

Milk Island
The milk island is a wonderful accessory that makes milk frothing very easy. Simply fill the milk container up 1/3 of the way, turn the steam knob on the side of the machine and everything else will be done for you. From start to finish this whole process takes about a minute. We have a great video to watch that will give you an in-depth look at this machine.

Things I would improve about this product:

    Not a one touch

  • While the milk island is a definitely a great addition, nothing beats the ease of use like a one touch machine such as the Gaggia Accademia.
  • Not stainless steel

  • The Platinum Vision housing construction uses ABS Plastic. Though it is very difficult to find any espresso machine that has all steel and/or stainless steel construction anymore, it would be nice to see more manufacturers offering this.

Customer Match/Recommended Use:

As with most super-automatic espresso machines you cannot beat the convenience the Platinum Vision offers when making your espresso beverages. With the addition of the touch display and the milk island the Vision is great for users that want a good combination of ease of use and quality beverages with little mess. The machine works very well in entertainment situations when serving 10 or less guests.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

"Super" machine changed our lives

Being in the coffee business has many advantages. In my former life, I was the type of person who would make a full pot of coffee first thing in the morning and take to mid- afternoon to drink the entire pot by myself. At times (cringe) I would even reheat the coffee in the microwave. On special occasions, I would run out to the store and purchase myself a latte.

Fast forward to the present and oh how my coffee experience has changed. I now have a Gaggia Platinum Vision in my kitchen. This super automatic espresso machine is the perfect compliment to my kitchen, complete with stainless steel appliances. It can make any drink I desire by simply pushing a series of pre-programmed buttons. Every cup of coffee I have is fresh and full of flavor. The coffee is never sitting in a carafe and being reheated over and over. I can simply place the beans of my choice in the back and push my pre-programmed button. If I want a full coffee, I choose my long coffee button which is a shot of espresso and eight ounces of water. On days I prefer a more robust coffee, I make a double shot of espresso and use the steam wand to add hot water.

The machine has also changed how I entertain. My neighbors stop by quite frequently to enjoy one of my special drinks. On most Sunday mornings, the door bell is ringing prior to 9am. I open the door to see my neighbor with coffee cup in hand. She goes directly to the machine and fills the milk island's carafe and froths her own milk. In less than two minutes she is on the deck drinking a cappuccino.

Even the kids have been enjoying our Gaggia. My son has been very creative with how he uses the machine. In the morning he uses the hot water feature to make oatmeal. He has created his own personal specialty drink, which consists of chocolate syrup and steamed milk made in the milk island. My daughter, she is a coffee lover. I hear the machine grinding beans each morning at 5:30am as she gets herself ready for school.

The machine even has an option for a pre-ground coffee. This is perfect for my mom who believes she cannot have caffeine after 5pm. I know the caffeine has not affected me. I have a cup every evening at 10pm to help me relax and end my day.

I view our espresso machine as one of the most important appliances in our kitchen. Heck if I had to choose we could live without the oven first.

What is your coffee routine?

I love this machine, set up was easy, operation is simple. It warms up quickly and performs a rinse cycle at start up. It makes great coffee/espresso. There are several custom settings for brewing, it has to be able to please the most discerning coffee connoisseurs. I was apprehensive of ordering a $1000+ machine and having it shipped cross country asI am in AZ and WLL is in NY. The machine came triple boxed!! There was a larger box which had spacers to float the second Gaggia box, within that was the Gaggia retail box with the machine. I was impressed. Needless to say the machine arrived undamaged. I read some of the reviews and people were concerned because there was not a grind setting tool packaged with the machine, mine did not have one either. It seems that the coffee scoop doubles as that tool, the end of handle has the key to change the grind setting. Probably a design change and the manual was not updated. Bottom line is that for the price point this is a feature packed machine that makes great coffee.

Love the machine. Makes good espresso and coffee (frineds always rave about it, I guess I am used to it). Easy to use and easy to program for different drinks at the touch of a screen. Cleaning/descaling functions are easy too. Milk Island is so-so when making one drink, but not enough volume for multiples. I currently have a problem with a little rubber seal on it letting the jar pop off. Need to talk to Wholelattelove about that . Great customer service. Better than my previous Jura machine, which I also liked. A bit on the pricey side though.

I love the machine. However, the milk island does not heat the milk adequately prior to building so much froth, that it must be turned off. If you had preheated milk, it would work wonderfully, however, I keep my milk in the fridge, and the canister is completely full to overflowing with frothed milk of a barely tepid temperature. To heat to a 'normal' temperature of 140-160, requires only a tiny amount of milk, otherwise, the froth overflows prior to thorough heating. I gave up early, and just use the steamwand, which works very well.

First, my buying experience with Whole Latte Love was painless, great price and delivery on time. Second, I have blogged about my first experiences with this machine at www.baristagrande.com. I will be updating it now that I've used it regularly for about a month. So far I love the machine, but the "milk island" has definitely had some issues, particularly with leaking and varying heat. The coffee, however, continues to be the strong point of the machine. I agree with other posters who mentioned how good the steam wand is on this product. Even with the milk island foibles, the steam wand makes sure that you will always have a great milk source (and the boiler is so strong it does not take long to heat up).

I was reluctant to trade-in my double boiler, prosumer Expobar machine for a superautomatic, but so far I'm glad I did. The Vision is super easy to use, and now I can easily make 2 cups of coffee with much less work in the time it would take to make one on the Expobar. Machine heats up literally in under 2 minutes. Steam is very strong and heats milk quickly. (I haven't tried the Milk Island yet, but the wand is so effective I don't really see a need to.) I was afraid I wouldn't like the touch screen at first, but it is effective and the menus are easy to follow. It feels very sturdy and takes a firm press to activate. The menu system allows complete fine-tuning of your coffee drinks. I like a strong cup, and using a large dose, fine grind, and slow flow rate I get it just the way I like it. The other thing I like about this unit compared to some others is the reasonable cost of the water filters ($12 vs $20+.) My only complaints are with the exterior design of the machine. I don't care for the platinum color because it looks cheap, like plastic spray-painted a gold-like-color with crappy paint. The platinum also does not blend well with the stainless on the front of the unit (which looks good if you like modern design.) Way too much plasticy appearance for a $1200+ machine. The plastic door to access the internal parts and used grounds feels flimsy. The drip tray and overflow/rinse tray are too small and require relatively frequent empying. The lazy-suzan type base is nice for accessability, but the machine doesn't feel completely stable and starts to tip forward when you place a large ceramic mug on the drip tray. Again, not something I'd expect from a $1000-plus machine. My all-stainless Expobar at the same price has simpler lines, more elegance, and is much less cheap looking. The Expobar looks and feels restaurant-quality, the Vision....radio shack. But it WORKS great. I'll be a happy customer IF it lasts.

I had the good fortune to live and work in Paris and London with frequent visits to other cities across the continent. So, I am quite familiar with the notion of great coffee. On a trip to Italy, I discovered the ultimate coffee experience in Rome at the Saint Eustachio Cafe. This was a religious experience for me and henceforth the standard for what a superb cup of espresso should be. An experience that I have yet to duplicate in the USA. I've come close at places like Intelligensia Coffee and at some good places like Ink in Denver and some others in Portland, even a few in New York. Anyway, these experiences inspired me to find the espresso machine to deliver a similar coffee adventure. The more I investigated espresso machines the more complex became the whole effort. Single boilers, double boilers, bars of pressure, dosers, articulated steam wands, tamping techniques, milk steaming temperatures, Latte art!! Yikes, I just want a good cup of coffee not a science project. As a lover of old sports cars, I want to be involved with my machine and the driving experience. So, I don't like automated things as a rule. I invested a lot of time reading reviews on the WLL site before I made my decision to purchase the Gaggia Vision. It would have been much more in character for me to buy a Prosumer machine like the Expobar. While I awaited the arrival of the Gaggia, I began having doubts about my decision. I'm also an amateur chef and I don't take shortcuts when I prepare meals. But I am happy to report that the Gaggia Vision truly delivers a fine cup of espresso and it does so effortlessly. Even the packaging was engineered smartly. The machine arrived in perfect condition and has worked flawlessly since. The set-up was very easy and the touch screen is very intuitive. It's also very easy to make a cup coffee using ground coffee for those that don't want an espresso. What a joy in the morning to come downstairs and enjoy a fabulous cup of espresso or Latte with that wonderful aroma! The customer service at WLL has also been excellent. Go ahead and take the leap!!

I've been using the machine for about a week now. The milk island has been an adjustment because my last machine had a milk pitcher that held the cold milk and only dispensed the milk to be steamed, so you could fill up the pitcher for several drinks and refrigerate the remainder, while the milk island only does one drink at a time and needs to be thoroughly rinsed out (and taken apart to do so) after each session. It's not really a big deal, just a little more work than what I was doing. However, I think it is worth it. The creamy, steamed milk from the milk island is wonderful! I am still trying to figure the machine out, which is why I rated the instruction materials a little low. Having said that, this is my third brand of espresso machine and I've yet to find one with good instructions. We had a little trouble installing the water filter. I had already added the water and beans (following their instructions) and then saw they had to be removed to add the milk island. I still haven't figured out how to get a double shot. I was a little concerned about buying from WLL because of the trouble I did have with previous machines purchased from Starbucks. SB was wonderful about replacing the machine and all I had to do was load it in my car and drive over to the closest location. I have saved the original shipping materials in case I have to send it in for repair or exchange. I don't anticipate doing so except that I've had issues with several (non-Gaggia) machines in the past. Pros: Quick to heat up MUCH hotter end product than previous machines Touch screen is easy to use Milk island steamed milk is creamy and good!! Cons: Extra maintenance for milk island Not a quick way to figure out how to use all the functions -- still learning after a week. I usually learn it all at one time.

Very good service By Cafe max from Las Vegas on 6/17/2010 Pros: Easy To Use Cons: Small Water Container Best Uses: Anytime Describe Yourself: Coffee Aficionado Primary use: Personal Bottom Line:Yes, I would recommend this to a friend The Gaggia Platinum Vision is a home use machine and is not commercial grade. It is however a fantastic espresso machine. The ease of use and high quality shot is evident at this price point. The amount of plastic is a little concerning in the build and it seems to be put together well. There is very little to nit pick and the ease of use is well worth the investment. The foam island works well and produces a good quality microfoam. The steam wand is easy to use and produces a quality microfoam as well. The bypass function is a must in this machine and works well. when you want to brew a shot of a different bean, this function is invaluble. We roast our own beans and are always doing a varity of pours. This machine will not dissapoint you. the quality of the espresso shot is as good or better than a semi-auto machine. Excellent!!!

I do not have a lot of experience with these automatic machines. However, I LOVE this machine. With the touch screen it makes it so easy to use. Set up was quick and I have enjoyed it every morning since buying it. One of the best purchases I have ever made.

Coming up on one year anniversary with this machine. Works like when it was brand new. Easy to use and easy to clean. Milk island also works flawlessly. Only wish the water tank would be bigger, especially if making regular coffees. I strongly recommend this machine. Compared to my neighbors Jura, the only thing the Gaggia does not do is clean itself. And since the cleaning is a breeze that takes about 1 minute, I'll keep the $1000 difference in my pocket.

This machine worked right out of the box. I've been using it for more than a year and haven't had one bad thing to say about it. My coffee comes out perfect every time, the espresso has great creme' as well. Very little to clean up, just have to run water over a small portion of the brew group weekly, wipe excess coffee oil residue from the filter and run a cleaning tablet through it once a month. The machine lets you know when to do most of this including a descaling. My father is on kidney dialysis and is limited to how much fluid he can take in a day. The Vision puts out 2, one ounce shots of espresso and that's exactly what dad wants. He was skeptical of this machine at first, especially its ability to even make a decent shot of espresso, but now can't get enough of it.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

What's Best About this Product?

The ease of keeping it clean. The fantastic coffee / espresso it makes, its various adjustments to help get the coffee tastes just right. I really love the cup tray that you can raise and lower at the touch of a button, that takes care of spillage. The cup warmer on top is another nice feature.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

When done for the day, put a small container under the coffee dispenser and dispense one ground espresso shot but without adding any grounds. This will cause hot water to be pushed through the filter screen and out the dispenser head resulting in a night cleansing. This will help keep any coffee oils from clogging up the filter.

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

The connection for the milk island and the island itself could be improved on to eliminate water coming out of it on occasion. Also, the steam wand leaks a little bit of water once in a great while.

Love Love Love this machine

I love this machine. Now I cannot live without it. I just cannot imagine my day, my life without it. It is so easy to make espresso, cappuccino, or latte. I cannot describe how good this machine is. I just press the picture of the kind of coffee I want. Crema is so great. It is the same like in cafe shops in Europe. I am from Europe and I really missed good cappuccino. In Europe we spend hours and hours drinking and talking to friends over cup of cappuccino. Now I love when someone stops by and I can offer them real European cup of coffee, Espresso or cappuccino.

Fantastic!

Excellent Machine! After doing a lot of research on a "super automatic" replacement for my Saeco Digital Italia, I decided on the Gaggia Platinum Vision. Features like the "in tank" water filter, touch screen and height adjustable tray, made the decision easy for me. It took me about 20 minutes to take everything out of the box to inventory and get it set up in its new home. I found the instruction manual to be very easy to read and understand. After priming the machine, and pulling a couple of test shots, I made my first latte. I was amazed how quickly it steamed the milk. The espresso shots came through with a great looking crema that made you want dive right into them! Cleanup was also very easy and straight forward. We had company over for the 4th of July, so I really got to put it through its paces. Latte's & Cappuccino's were flowing like the mighty Mississippi! Everyone was commenting on the quality and taste. They loved the look of the machine too! Even though its an advanced machine, it doesn't look like the console of the Space Shuttle! :-) Looking forward to many years of use!

Runs like a Porsche, looks like a Cadillac

We've had the Vision for three days. It worked as advertised right out of the box. The coffee is good. The only complaints I have are that the machine seems like a lightweight plastic affair for this much money. Second, you really need to read the entire 36 pages of instruction before you brew as the setup summary up front skips a few fundamental steps. Third, there are no instructions for attaching the milk island. You have to turn the machine on it's side to plug it in and that is awkward if you wait as I did to attach it after loading with water and coffee. Bottom line: this is our first advanced coffee machine and I am glad I bought it.

Instant Gratification!

First super-automatic I've owned and I love it! It's overall superb, and I have only very, very minimal recommendations for improvement. Serves up crema-licious espresso every time, even when I use inexpensive grocery store brand beans.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

1 - 6 months

What's Best About this Product?

Warms up in about 30 seconds flat. Easy to use, clean and maintain. I can make a 4-shot mocha from start to finish, including frothing the milk, in about 6 minutes. It's piping hot and delicious every time.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Invest in it and love it! I calculated how many $4-$5 mochas I bought in a year -- and for me this machine was a bargain.

My Experience With Using This Product:

Coffee Lover

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Grocery Store Brand

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

The 1-piece grounds drawer is divided into 2 sections: one side holds the used grounds and one side holds the water that seeps out of them. I find the seeped water side too shallow. It overflows on my counter before the machine warns me to empty it, or is so full it spills when I remove the drawer to dump it. To prevent this I just empty it after about every 6 shots, only to have the machine make me stop in mid-espresso a few shots later and empty it again on it's pre-determined schedule. However, this is easy to do and a very minor inconvenience. I also find the clean water tank a bit on the small side, I am frequently refilling it. This is probably due to my 4-shots at a time habit. The height adjustable drip tray height is great, but unfortunately lacks about an inch in additonal clearance that would allow me to dispense my shots directly into my favorite travel mug. I'm not a big fan of the Gaggia milk island. It's great if you just want a little frothed milk over espresso, but for a latte or mocha, it doesn't hold enough milk to make it practical to use. My attempts overflowed the milk island container, and had hot milk seeping out of the bottom. So for those drinks I just use the frother attached to the machine, which is superb and easy to clean. Overall, these are very minor issues.

Perfect machine for entertaining

I had a saeco vienna for about 6 years. When the machine stopped operating, I knew it was time to upgrade. We used our machine every day and love to make latte's and entertain. I called Whole Latte Love and spoke with Beau. He suggested we take a look at the Gaggia Platinum line of machines. We decided to buy the top of line model the Vision. This machine had everything we could ever need. The machine came with a milk island. It is so easy to use. Now when we entertain, I can just place milk in the island and all the work is done for me. The machine produces amazing froth and creates the perfect latte every time. We love the large display and it even has images on the screen. This machine is a lot easier to clean than our Vienna. The grounds container and water reservoir are located on the side of the machine and very easy to get too. The bean hopper has a sealed lid and keeps the beans fresh.

Great but not perfect

After 5 years with my Digital Synchrony I decided to upgrade. This is an amazing machine but there's room for improvement. The water tank, the drip tray, and the dregs drawer are relatively small compared to the Synchrony but the machine is good about letting you know when they need to be emptied. There are more loose grounds to clean up when doing the weekly maintenance but a small handheld vacuum makes that relatively easy. I have yet to get the milk island to work and spoke with tech support today who is sending me a replacement once they receive the one I'm returning. On the plus side, the fine-tuning of the coffee strength is second to none. No place that I've been able to find can match the cup of coffee I can make at home. The steam wand is much more powerful than my previous and the froth is creamy and rich. The machine can be programmed to turn itself on and off if you're just too impatient to wait less than a minute while it warms up. It's quiet and relatively compact, sleek and stylish to behold, and a really really good reason to wake up in the morning.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

What's Best About this Product?

The rapid steam feature is a real improvement over my previous machine.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

The manual isn't particularly helpful, particularly when learning to use preground coffee. But the menu is pretty intuitive once you've used it once or twice.

My Experience With Using This Product:

Coffee Lover

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Lavazza, Illy

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

The bypass doser seems to also serve as an exhaust for the steam at the end of a cycle so it tends to be moist, making the preground coffee stick and clog to some degree. A bottle brush makes it easy to clean but it's too bad that it couldn't be purged some other way.

best espresso I've ever tasted!

I really did my shopping on this one. I went everywhere I could trying to find the best espresso machine I could find, the best bang for my buck. I've had my C3000 for 4 years now and I wanted something better tasting, not just the convenience. So I shopped online and in stores and finally came across the Vision and I'm telling you, YOU CAN'T FIND SOMETHING AS GOOD TASTING AS THIS & AS EASY TO USE! Wow I can't believe its a super auto

I have used many super automatic machines and this makes by far the best espresso that I have ever had. The espresso comes out nice and slow and is dark and rich. The milk island makes a very creamy froth and is easy to clean but I normally use the steam wand, which also works great. The grinder is very quiet so I can use it and not wake up my wife (I get up early). I very highly recommend this beautiful machine!!!!!

Espresso quality is far better than the rest. The adjustments you can make for strength of the coffee are well thought out and you can taste the difference. It is easy to program, the touch screen was easy to use and the programming was very intuitive.

What does the Espresso Plus dial actually change to adjust the strength of the shot? Dosage and the amount of water is changed in the menu. Does espresso Plus change the brew time? Thanks!

techkathy The dial restricts the flow of water through the coffee. It slows the flow of the coffee imitating a tighter tamp on a semi-automatic machine.

A A Kristen,
If you were going to use an automatic machine for a small commercial setting, I might suggest the Gaggia Titanium Office. The dredge drawer is much more substantial and would cut down on having to dump it dramatically. I have included a link below.

We have had our Platinum Vision for about 6 months and it's worked perfectly. This morning I rinsed out the drip tray and rinsed the brew group thoroughly (did not use any detergent to clean). Now the machine will not brew - it grinds the beans and when it tries to dispense the espresso, it discards it and gives me the message "Prime Water Circuit". I have run a full tank of water through the steam knob and still gives me this massage. Any easy tips here or should I contact the repair center?

Sanfam ♦ A quick and simple troubleshooting step you could take is to spin the E-Plus knob between its left and right full-stops a few times, then leave it as the left stop. When the machine powers on, you can try switching it to pre-ground mode and brewing a shot without putting any grounds into the bypass doser. If you can brew a "blank shot" like this, then try again with ground coffee and you should be all set. If not, I'd suggest giving our Technical Support department a call at 888-411-5282, Option 3.

Three questions:
1. How long has this product been on the market? Wondering about the longevity of the touch screen?
2. Why only three grind settings - I am concerned I will not be able to 'dial in' the proper grind setting having on three grind settings. Does it have ceramic burrs?
3. What is the warranty and how has the repair history been, especially as against the Gaggia Titanium whcih is the machine I've always wanted? Why pay $300 more?

Thank you,
Brad

mjackson ♦ Brad, Great questions and thanks. The machine has been out for over three years. It does have ceramic burrs and makes a much better shot then the models with metal burrs. It comes with a two year warranty. First year parts and labors, 2nd year parts. It has performed very well and the repair rate has been good. We have not seen a lot of problems.

Get the Gaggia as it has the ability to make a stronger coffee beacuse at maximum dose it allows you to put 10.5 grams of coffee in each cup as the Saeco will only be able to put 7 grams in at maximum dose. So if your about the taste I would get the Gaggia.

My Platinum Vision is over 2 years old and has twice been serviced for a leaking steam wand. The wand still leaks and I now have an additional problem with an over spill of ground beans that fall into the drip try after I brew espresso. This has become a huge waste of expensive beans. Even though we have sent the unit to an authorized repair shop in Arthur Ave of the Bronx, I'm not sure what to do next. Do you have any suggestions?? Thank You.

It will fit 4 small espresso cups the 3 ounce size. Of course the larger the cup the less it will fit. I hope this helps and also a taller cup may not fit under your counter. You may want to keep that in mind.

I am interested in the Gaggia Platinum Vision Espresso Machine. My concern is will the machine handle Starbucks espresso beans correctly? I understand the beans are oily and I want to insure that this will not be a problem for the espresso machine. I plan on using Starbucks espresso beans exclusively. Thanks in advance for your response. If this a problem, can you recommend another espresso machine? Thanks again.

I can and do recommend the Gaggia Platinum for exactly the reasons you are thinking about using the machine for. It works well with dark oily beans and also happens to make an excellent espresso. It is easy to use and you will be amazed at the quality of the espresso. The Gaggia is a very good machine. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any questions.

1 -- What cleaning tabs would you recommend using with the Vision for the monthly cleaning?
2 -- Where can I buy additional oil for the brew group?
3 -- What descaling agent would you recommend?
4 -- What is the best replacement filter and how often should I replace it?
This machine is great -- I would highly recommend it to anyone considering a super automatic. Now, I just want to make sure I maintain it well so it lasts.
Thanks!

mjackson ♦ David,

Here are the cleaning tabs you need- http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/cafiza_tabs.cfm.
I would also run this descaler through it. If you use the Mavea filters you will not need to do very often. Say twice a year. Here is a link - http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/cleancaf.cfm. I would use the Mavea filter and how often you change it will be based on use and the hardness of your water. I would say under normal use and normal water you would want to replace about every three months. I hope this helps and I am glad you like your machine.
