Question by Bohdanna H.

I purchased a Gaggia Accademia a couple of months ago and absolutely love it. Recently the symbol came up 'decalcification'. My helpful husband (who never reads instructions) poured the entire decalcifier (which came with the machine) into the water tank without taking the filter out first. ...
Maggie aswered:
It should be discarded and replaced. When you descale the machine with the filter inside of it, it keeps and holds some of the descaling solution like it would with any mineral content or other impurities.

Question by Wendy L.

How long is the filter good for?
mjackson aswered:
Do you mean in use , or when it expires before being opened. It will last as long as it says in instructions which is based on use and water hardness. In the box it really does not expire.

Question by Jeffrey G.

Will this filter work with a Gaggia Evolution? Do the tubes connect to it and it sits in the tank?
Maggie aswered:
This will not work with your Gaggia Evolution-they unfortunately do not make a water filter that will work with the Evolution at this time.

Question by Beata V.

Is there another comparable but less expensive filter for the Gaggia Accademia? Reading the reviews, there are different less expensive options for the decalcifier. The reviews seem to confirm that they all work pretty well. Can anyone confirm? Also, help with the milk carafe cleaner please. I...
Maggie aswered:
I apologize, we do not have any other available filters for the Gaggia Accademia-I believe that this is the only one currently available overall for Gaggia machines. The milk carafe cleaner you are looking for is the Urnex Rinza, which can be found here:... more
techkathy aswered:
Beata - Unfortunately there is not a substitute or alternative filter available. Click on the link below for the Rinza milk frother cleaner http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/urn_rinza.cfm

Question by Barbara W.

I understand from the other comments that an in-reservoir filter is unnecessary if I start with filtered water. Just to make sure: does that mean that using water from my Britta pitcher to fill the reservoir is sufficient? If not sufficient, I suppose I would still need the Mavea filter.
Maggie aswered:
Brita pitchers and filters remove the more harmful minerals from your water and reduce the level of calcium (which causes scale). They would be an equivalent level of filtration as the Mavea Intenza filter, and your machine will work with no issues with or without the filter, so long as you... more

Question by Maria G.

Hi: I am waiting for my new Gaggia Brera to arrive, my very first espresso machine, yeah. I'd like to know if I need a filter or if the filtered water out of the refrigerator is sufficient? Looking forward to your answer!
A aswered:
Maria, The filtration is essentially the same, so you should be ready to do with the water from your refrigerator. However, if you get a funky smell/taste from that water (as many refrigerators do), then the Intenza filter would filter your tap water very well and give you a great shot!

Question by Anna O.

Hi, I've just purchased Gaggia Brera, my order is still processing. This is my first espresso machine and I'm wondering if I needed to include this filter in my order. We use filtered water for cooking and drinking, the filter is installed under the sink in the kitchen. Do I still need to use...
A aswered:
Anna, If you are using a filtered water system in your home, there is no need to use a filter within the machine. It is designed to do the same thing that your home filter is already doing for you!
Anna aswered:
Thanks!
