Features

When you see the words “Gaggia Titanium,” you know you can expect the best. The Gaggia Titanium Plus stays true to its name, featuring 2 boilers so there’s no downtime between brewing and steaming, a blue LCD display, temperature control, stainless steel front panel, an automatic frothing attachment, and much more. The Titanium Plus also adds a new spin to the traditional Gaggia Titanium design with the addition of the E. Plus system: an easy-to-use knob that you can turn any time during the brewing process to change the strength of your espresso.

The Gaggia Titanium Plus is a perfect machine for not just daily use, but entertaining as well. An active cup warmer will keep up to 6 demitasse cups warm, while the stainless steel-lined brew boiler and separate boiler for steam will ensure that you can make cappuccinos, lattes, and other coffee house drinks back-to-back for your guests. The included stainless steel Turbo Frother lets you manually froth or steam milk, and the Titanium Plus also comes with Gaggia’s patented automatic frothing attachment to make it even easier. If your guests prefer decaf, or a type of coffee other than the one in your bean hopper, the Titanium Plus also features a bypass doser. And, since the coffee spout is adjustable, you can brew into a variety of cup sizes with ease. A removable brew group, dump box, drip tray, and 60 oz water reservoir make cleaning up after large gatherings a simple and fast process. Take all of these outstanding features and house them in durable steel housing, and you have a wonderful addition to any kitchen.

Features & Benefits: Coffee

Automatic Coffee Center

The Gaggia Titanium Plus has everything you need to make virtually any café-style drink in moments. Simple brewing controls and 2 different options for steaming and frothing milk put every type of drink right at your fingertips. Lattes, cappuccinos, crema coffee, even hot water for tea and hot chocolate are just a few buttons away.

Push Button Technology

Perhaps the best thing about the Gaggia Titanium Plus is its ease-of-use. With programmable brewing buttons and complete control over every aspect of your espresso, you can create consistent espresso shots, morning after morning, set to your desired taste. Once programmed, all you have to do is press a button and the Titanium Plus does the rest: grinding, tamping, and brewing right into your waiting cup.

E. Plus System

To give you complete control over your espresso, the Gaggia Titanium Plus features the E. Plus system. This dial located on the front of the machine can be turned at any time to increase or decrease the water flow rate, or strength of your espresso- even while brewing. Turn it to the counterclockwise to decrease the strength, and turn it clockwise to increase the strength.

LCD Display

Some super automatic machines can only notify you when to perform maintenance or if the brew group or dump box is out of place through a series of blinking lights. If you prefer reading what maintenance needs to be performed in the language of your choice (English, Italian, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, or Dutch), the Titanium Plus features a cool blue LCD display. It will notify you when you need to fill the bean hopper, water reservoir, or perform a cleaning or descaling cycle. It also makes programming all of the machines functions a straightforward process, so you can fully customize your espresso.

Rapid Steam

With many espresso machines, you have to wait for the boiler to reach proper steaming temperature when going from brewing to steaming. The result? Lost temperature of your espresso shot and more time that you’re stuck in the kitchen when entertaining guests. The Gaggia Titanium Plus helps eliminate this down time with 2 separate boilers: a stainless steel-lined brewing boiler and a Rapid Steam boiler just for frothing and steaming milk. Without excess heat up and cool down time between frothing and brewing, you’ll be serving up delicious drinks in no time.

Adjustable Beverage Volume

The Gaggia Titanium Plus comes with 3 pre-programmed buttons for espresso, a normal coffee, and a caffe lungo. To change these settings to meet your tastes, programming is easy. Simply place a cup underneath the coffee dispenser, press, and hold the button that you want to program. The message “Progr. Quantity” will appear, and just hold the beverage button until the desired amount of coffee is dispensed into your cup, then release.

Adjustable Coffee Dosing

You can set the amount of coffee used to brew your espresso using the adjustable dosing feature. This is controlled by a knob in the bean hopper and lets you set your coffee dose to anywhere between 6 and 9 grams of coffee per shot.

Adjustable Temperature Control

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to the temperature of their coffee. That’s why the Gaggia Titanium Plus comes with 5 different temperature settings: minimum, low, medium, high, and maximum. To change this setting, just enter the programming mode and use the arrow keys to navigate to the temperature setting of your choice.

Coffee Pre-Infusion

Espresso tastes best when the coffee grounds have been slightly moistened before brewing. It brings out the aromatic oils of the beans, ensuring you get the most flavorful espresso possible. You can turn this 2-second pre-infusion feature on or off on the Titanium Plus, and even set it to be a bit longer if you want.

Bypass Doser

The Titanium Plus is all about meeting your needs and those you entertain, so a bypass doser is one of its key features. This easy-to-use coffee chute lets you brew using pre-ground coffee instead of the whole beans in your hopper. This is great for evening espressos when you want decaf, or if you just want to try a type of coffee other than what’s in your hopper.

Professional-grade Conical Burr Grinder

High quality espresso comes from a fine, consistent grind. The professional-grade conical burr grinder in the Gaggia Titanium Plus has 18 different fineness settings, so you can find the perfect setting to meet your needs. The grind setting can be changed by simply turning the knob inside the 8.5 oz bean hopper.

Active Cup Warmer

The secret to great tasting espresso is preheating your brewing components, and it’s important not to forget about those cups. Keep your espresso hot by brewing right into warm cups with the built-in active cup warmer on the Gaggia Titanium Plus. With enough room for 6 demitasse cups, you can be sure everyone gets a nice, hot cup of espresso.

Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water

Hot Water

With the Titanium Plus, you can dispense hot water for tea, hot cocoa, or instant soups by just choosing the hot water function. Simply press it and turn the steam wand knob on the right side of the machine to have hot water dispensed from the steam wand.

Stainless Steel Turbo Frother & Automatic Frothing Attachment

For complete control over your steamed and frothed milk, the Titanium Plus comes with a Turbo Frother and an automatic frothing attachment. The Turbo Frother is a Panarello-style attachment that helps to evenly distribute steam throughout your pitcher while manually frothing. To make creating cappuccinos and lattes even easier, you can attach the automatic frother to your steam wand and it will pull milk from a pitcher and dispense luscious frothed or steamed milk right into your cup.

Features & Benefits: Care, Maintenance & Other

Water Reservoir

The water reservoir on the Gaggia Titanium Plus can hold up to 60 oz of water, enough for 30 espressos or 10 cups of coffee before you have to refill. The reservoir can also be easily removed for cleaning and filling.

Removable Brew Group

It’s easy to access the brew group of the Titanium Plus. Simply open the front panel and press the thumb release lever on the group. It will slide out easily for routine rinsing, cleaning, and any other needed maintenance, so keeping your machine in top shape is always simple.

Removable Dump Box and Drip Tray

To make cleaning as easy as possible, the Titanium Plus has a removable dump box and drip tray. The digital display will let you know when either needs to be emptied, so you don't have to worry about keeping track of your shot count yourself.

Energy Saving Mode

You can set the machine to go into energy saving mode after a certain period of inactivity in the programming menu. This saves electricity by shutting the boiler down but keeping the controls on for quicker start-up whenever you're ready to brew again.

Cycle Count and Water Hardness

The Gaggia Titanium Plus features a cup counter always keep track of how many shots you’ve brewed. You can also set your water hardness in the programming menu, so after a certain amount of cups brewed, the machine will notify you to perform a descaling cycle.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

Updating a previous review

After a year I am updating my previous review. First, this makes delicious espressos, coffee and cappucinos. Secondly, about 6 months in the mother board went out and I had to send it in to Whole Latte Love for repair. The machine was gone for about 4 weeks. A long time. It also cost me $120.00 to send it to Whole Latte Love with insurance. Whole Latte Love pays for return shipping to me, but not the shipping charges going out. So, I have found a good repair place near me so that I won't have to pay to send it to WLL if there are any problems beyond the year warranty. Other than that, it runs strong and we're heavy users.

Use it daily and love it daily

I have had this machines predecessor for several years. I use it at least twice a day to steam milk and extract espresso. It has been consistent since day one. Simple to use and produces a quiality product. It has clean lines and looks great in our kitchen. After drinking months of espresso's from this machine, my parents purchased this new model and have had it for over a year. Now I get to distribute my espresso addiction across different machines.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

What's Best About this Product?

Consistent. There are many features available through the easy to navigate display. However once set a single button is all that is needed to extract a shot.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Use shot glasses to set your single shot pull correctly. Use your cups to designate the fill size of a medium and large coffee.

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Starbucks Espresso Roast and an imported Italian roast whose name is escaping me.

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

Door swing is a bit restrictive when removing the internal components for cleaning. However it does not affect the machines operation or your ability to clean.

Gaggia Platinum Still Shining

We are now over 6 months since I first bought this FINE machine. The $$$ investment was definitely worth it. If you are considering another brand of machine because it is cheaper, Don't Do It! Everyone who comes to my house tells me that this is the best coffee/espresso/cap they have ever had. I used to be regular at Starbucks and now find their coffees so unpalatable I can barely drink their coffee anymore.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

6 - 12 months

What's Best About this Product?

Easy to Clean. Dependable with over 700 shots. CONSISTENT.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Just use a really good coffee - Illy is the least expensive coffee I would put in this baby. If you're going to spend $80.00 for Kona Coffee, this is the machine to get. Extracts every drop of flavor without bitterness.

I LOVE this machine!

After about 1 month of use and settling on the bean, grind, and dose size, my wife and I are LOVING this superautomatic! I can't believe how EASY and FAST it is! Push one button and in seconds have a perfect shot. We're getting consistantly great shots with a huge amount of crema every time. I've not yet determined the effect of the brew-speed dial, which this model offers, so have it set mid-scale. Not sure if this feature is necessary, but WLL upgraded me to this machine when they were out of stock on the Titanium that I originally ordered. WLL has always given me great service in the 6-7 years I've been dealing with them (Rancillio Slivia and Rocky). Great company. Very knowlegable. The milk foamer works better than any I've dealt with before with no "skill" needed. Have not fooled around with the ball gizmo to automate the milk steaming. Seems unnecessary. I love the instant steam and hot water availability. Extremely easy and almost fool-proof.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

1 - 6 months

What's Best About this Product?

Convenience and consistantly great shots.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

See above. Be prepared to run numerous shots and taste tests. It makes shots so fast, it's actually fun to do this!

My Experience With Using This Product:

Coffee Lover

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Costco Starbucks Roast

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

It shipped with the grind on "0", which turns out to be the finest grind - too fine - and clogged the brew group, causing the "ventilate" error. There is no indication in the manual or on the knob which end of the 0-16 scale is fine. After adjusting it back to center of scale, it cleared up after a couple shots. It was scary getting this with the first shot out of the box. It should ship with grind on center of scale. The manual could use some tips on what the adjustments mean, how they interact, etc. to assist with dialing it in.

This is a very good machine, it is better than I expected. Both the ground and the whole bean processes are excellent. Impressive

It took a month or two for me to get the settings where I wanted them, but the result was a superb shot every time. I still use my Expobar Brutus II, but for ease, quality of output, consistency and speed, I just can't say enough positive things about the Gaggia Titanium Plus.

I don't like that a high end machine is mostly plastic, but I cannot complain about the quality of the coffee. The steaming wand took a long time to get used to and seems pretty low end for a good machine. There is no shortage of steam, however learning how to froth milk is much more difficult than with a traditional steaming wand.

Service is a Problem

This was my second Gaggia espresso machine. I had this one for about 3 months and some kind of main board went out. It's been at the repair shop for four months awaiting parts. Gaggia Titanium Plus a lovely machine, almost perfect!

Firstly, this machine makes absolutely great espresso and coffee drinks. And since that is the most important thing to me, I would definitely recommend this machine. It also looks fantastic, and is easy to use once mastered. My guests rave about the drinks it produces! So if this unit is in your price range, and has the features you want, definitely consider selecting the Gaggia Titanium Plus.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

What's Best About this Product?

Great coffee, stylish looks, relatively easy to use, swivel base, nice display. Plenty of pressure and steaming power!

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Oily beans can clump up and cause it to report it's out of beans when it's not, so watch for that. Take some time to really get familiar with the machine and you will be happy with it.

My Experience With Using This Product:

Connoisseur

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

Pete's and Smaller Organic and fair trade brands. Typically Espresso or dark roast.

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

It’s pretty large for one thing, requiring a lot of space. The dredge drawer could be easier to empty, and occasionally it erroneously reports being full. The menu system is not entirely intuitive. The manufacturer spent a lot of energy getting the manual into every known language, but as a result it's very brief on important points.

I have a Gaggia Titanium and my brew unit got stuck and I followed your steps to remove it and it works for a bit then when i power off the unit for a day or so the brew unit jams up again, it has done this multiple times. do i need to replace the brew unit. I have about 1100 cups on the machine.

techkathy Kenneth - Have you lubricated the brew unit recently?

http://www.wholelattelove.com/videos.cfm?playvidID=440

Click on the link. If lubricating the BG does not help I would recommend sending the machine in for a repair. There may be an issue with the small drive motor.

mjackson ♦ There is not a lot of differences, the most notable is the New e plus knob for strength control. It does help you extract a better espresso. It also has two stainless steel boilers as opposed to the Titanium which has one stainless and one aluminum. They both are very similar and I really like the way they work as well as the way they look.

Lately, my machine tells me to fill the water tank, even when there is still water in it. Yesterday, I descaled my machine, which went well, but the "fill the tank" message still came up when I was finished and had filled the tank. I assume something that triggers that message when the tank empties/fills is not working as it should. What should I do?

mjackson ♦ Lawrence,

It could be a few things. The simplest would be that the magnet is stuck in a position in your tank where it can not move up or down. Look in your reservoir it is in a plastic shell and floats up and down in order to let your machine sense the amount of water. The other thing is it could be the sensor inside the machien that's not sensing the magnet. Please give our technical support team a call and they can help.

I'm interested in purchasing a super automatic but hesitant because I am under the impression that thermoblock heated boilers are incapable of producing hot enough steam to bring milk to a micro foam. Is this correct, and if so, are there any super autos that do not use thermoblock heaters?

Michael Rosso ♦ John...Thanks for your interest in the Gaggia Titanium Plus. The thermoblock boilers have been designed by the engineers to take up less space inside the machine, and produce plenty of steam. Thanks.

How do I make a dark, very rich cup of coffee? I have my grinder set to 16, and I have the dose up to the max. We used to get a very rich cup of coffee but now don't after cleaning the unit and resetting the calibration following your video on cleaning out the grinder bin and shoot. Please advise ...
Thanks,

Sam

Zack Smith Sam, If your grinder is set to 16 your grind is to coarse. Try setting your grinder to 5 or 6 and keep the dosage up and that should give you a strong rich cup.

It says ventilate and I've tried everything. Hot water will not come out.

mjackson ♦ Robert,

Let the machine cool down overnight. When you first turn it on hit the hot water button and open steam wand. You have to keep trying. You may have something like scale stuck in your flowmeter which can cause a problem. Also make sure your steam wand is clear and clean. You may also want to try running a blank shot when you first turn it on by hitting bypass dosser button with no coffee. If that does not work give our technical support a call.

Michael Rosso ♦ Carrie...Please try the self prime steps listed below.

Self Priming a Super Auto
Never attempt to prime your machine for more than thirty seconds; meaning you should never hear the pump for more than thirty seconds at a time. Also, never attempt to prime while the machine is warm.

Tools:
Turkey baster (to siphon water)
Paper toweling (to create a seal on the gasket)

1. Turn on the machine with a full water reservoir.
2. Turn the steam knob to initiate the pump.
3. Take the reservoir off and set along side the machine.
4. Fit the turkey baster (filled with water) to the gasket (you may need to use something to make a good seal like some rolled up paper toweling around the baster.) Squeeze the turkey baster into the inlet gasket, which is where the water reservoir meets the machine.
5. When you hear a pitch change in the pump, close the steam knob and re-place the reservoir back onto the machine.
6. Now we would like you to open the steam knob to be sure the machine will take water from the water reservoir.
7. If you get a steady stream of water from the steam arm, your machine has now been primed! Thanks and let us know how it turns out for you.

@Frances to followup on Mike R, usually it does not take a full tank. I guess it could but I've never seen that or had to do that. Usually if you run the hot water function for about 10 seconds that should do it most the time. I've owned mine, I have a Titanium (not Plus) and had it for 4 years and never had to clear a tank.

we replaced the steam valve and now it says "ventilate"...we called your techs and did some of the solutions recommended...it still says "ventilate"

On your website it says to run hot water continuously (often a whole tank) until it clears.
When we run the hot water, after about 15 seconds it says "close knob). I assume we should close the knob and just continue doing this until it clears??

Thanks for your help; you guys are great!

MikeR Yes Fran, do exactly that. It may actually take a couple of tanks to clear it. All it is is a air bubble in the line that is tricking the sensor into thinking it isn't fully primed. And it can take a bit of water to work that bubble out.

My brew unit was stuck and I followed the instructions on your site to release it. It came out and I reset it to the correct position. I've bybassed the micro-switch so the machine can reset, but when I close the door it still says that it's rinsing and machine just hums. Is there anything else I can try to reset the machine or is there a problem that needs to be addressed in the shop?

TechMilanoItalia If the machine is in the 'Rinsing' cycle, then it has to complete it by running water out the front spouts. If no water is coming out, then you may have an internal blockage which would necessitate the machine coming in for a repair. If that is the case, give us a call to set up the repair for you.
