Features

Introducing the Jura-Capresso ENA4— the world’s slimmest bean-to-cup coffee center. With features such as 18 bars of pressure, a professional-grade conical burr grinder and multiple convenience features, the fully programmable ENA4 allows you to personalize the amount, strength and temperature of your coffee, while the Rotary Dial allows you to temporarily override your preset programming to prepare a special cup, without affecting the permanent settings. At the touch of a button, it grinds, tamps, and brews, making it easier than ever to create your own personal coffee sensations. After you’re done brewing, the machine self-cleans in less than 60 seconds.

Create lattes and cappuccinos with the Dual Frother Plus, or purchase the patented frothXpress system that automatically steams or froths milk into the cup. Use the hot water dispenser for Café Americano or tea.

Handsomely designed in platinum metallic with chrome accents, the ENA4 features the Clearyl water filtration system, which significantly reduces the need for decalcification. Other convenient features include an LCD three-color alphanumeric display, a stainless steel-lined ThermoBlock for quick heating and minimal wait times before initial brewing and steaming, a separate automatic ground coffee funnel, and energy-saving devices. Clearyl water filter and starter pack of cleaning tablets included in box.

Getting acquainted

Composition

The Jura Capresso ENA4 is composed of platinum metallic with chrome accents. The grinder consists of conical steel burrs, with five fineness settings. Measuring 14"x9"x17" (HWL), the machine weighs 20 lbs. The bean hopper holds 7 oz and the removable water tank holds 37 oz.

Programmable

Slim and sleek, the ENA4 features 18 bars of pressure and is fully programmable, with an LCD three-color alphanumeric display. Simply press a button to grind, tamp, brew, and even clean the machine. And you choose the amount, strength and temperature of your coffee. The rotary dial allows you to temporarily override the programming to prepare a special cup.

Heating system

The stainless steel lined ThermoBlock heats quickly, reducing wait times before initial brewing and steaming.

Preground coffee option

The ENA4 has a separate funnel that lets you bypass the grinder and brew ground coffee, such as decaf or specialty ground coffee.

Energy Saver

Save energy with the patent-pending Zero Energy Button and Energy Save Standby mode.

Get ready to brew

First time

First, turn on your machine, and then fill your reservoir. Then add your beans and select your coffee button. Make sure you have a large cup under the spouts. Don’t drink this first cup because it’s going to be weak as it takes a cycle to get the beans into the chamber correctly.

Program your machine

After brewing your first cup you can adjust your grind to your taste and bean type. Or you can bypass grinding altogether by using the funnel. This is for pre-ground coffee-- decaf, or flavored coffees that you bought either pre-ground or ground in a separate grinder. But once you’ve set your programs, all you have to do is hit your cup size and the ENA4 will automatically grind, tamp, pre-infuse and brew your coffee to your liking.

Rotary Dial

The rotary dial allows you to override your presets for special servings. The machine will then default back to the preset settings.

Creating your drink

First set your selector dial-- brewing (1 cup or two cups), hot water, steaming or frothing-- depending on what you want. You can also increase or decrease strength or volume of your coffee.(Choose from 5-15 grams of coffee per serving.) Put your cup (cups) under the spouts and go. Because you’ve pre-programmed everything, that’s all you have to do each time you use your ENA4. It’s that simple. Of course, you can always go back to the programming mode to change or readjust anything you like. But once you’ve set your programs all you have to do is hit your cup size and the ENA4 will automatically grind, tamp, pre-infuse and brew your coffee to your liking. Remember, the rotary dial allows you to temporarily override the the programming to prepare a special cup.

The finishing touches

The ENA4 comes with the Dual Frother plus-- for more control over your frothing. The frothXpress system, which automatically steams and froths milk into the cup, can be purchased separately. To make a cup of tea or a cafe Americano, use the hot water dispenser located on the front of the machine.

Care and maintenance

The machine is self-cleaning and the Clearyl water filtration system significantly reduces the need for decalcification. Automatic cleaning and replenishing programs are indicated in the display for: fill water, fill beans, empty used coffee, tablet cleaning, replace Clearyl filter.

Fantastic Machine

I really like this machine. It works like a charm, no headaches or clean up required. Simple to use, worry free. Low noise, heats up in 30 seconds. Press the button and go. I am a sucker for design and technology which this machine has a lot of. You can even do expresso shots with this easily. My friends also love it and are truly impressed. A lot of people wondered why I paid so much, once they try it they are sold on it.

I bought this machine over a year ago and it was one of the best purchases of my life. It makes such excellent espresso! I also bought a separate frother (a Capresso) which has been wonderful since I don't have to mess with hot steam! :) I highly recommend this machine to anyone who isn't a fan of lots of manual labor to get a great cup of espresso, cappuccino or latte!

I bought the ENA4 to replace my Saeco Incanto Deluxe that gave up on me. It was probably a brew unit problem, but I just didn't want to spend the $$$ (and down time) chasing it. The ENA4 is a worthy replacement. First, I love the compact footprint. This was probably my foremost requirement because the only counter space we have for an espresso machine is a relatively narrow "sliver" next to our stove. The Incanto Deluxe too up pretty much all of it. The ENA4 fits much better. Although I lean towards more "industrial" looking espresso machines (maybe it's an Italian thing), I do like the sleek look of the ENA4 (probably a Swiss thing). The ENA4 is pretty easy to use, but the rotary dial takes some getting used to (largely because I was accustomed to the controls on my Incanto Deluxe). The ENA4 has more adjustability in terms of shot strength and size, which I really like. I also like how the grinder adjusts. Bottom line: For a superautomatic, the ENA4 makes very good espresso. Right now, the beans I'm using are a mix of dark (but not oily) and medium. I dialed the grinder to inbetween medium and fine. Getting good, strong shots with nice crema. The one concern I had buying the ENA4 was all the reviews citing the steam wand blowing off. This did happen to me the first time I used the steam wand just to try it out, i.e., testing it, not steaming milk. It hasn't happened since. I do two things that seem to "cure" this "ill." First, I give the wand an extra, firm push when I attach it. Second, when I first open up the steamer I hold the top of the wand (the rubber part where it connects) just in case. Also, I purge the wand both before and after using to make sure it's clean and clear. Oh yeah ... it steams. :-) Speaking of steaming, my one "niggle" is that the ENA4 only has one heating element. So I have to wait for it to heat up to steam. I was spoiled by my Incanto Deluxe with two heating elements that allowed me to steam right away and then pull shots (or vice versa). But this is just a relatively minor inconvenience. The other big difference between the ENA4 and my old Incanto Deluxe is that the brew unit isn't removable in the ENA4. I kind of liked being able to remove the brew unit from the Incanto Deluxe to clean it. You're supposed to be able to run a manual clean cycle on the ENA4, but I followed the instructions in the manual and I can't get it to come up. So I guess I'll just wait until the unit tells me it wants/needs to be cleaned to try the drop the cleaning tablet in the bypass doser thing. (NOTE that this is not the de-calcifying cycle, but just to clean out the brew unit.) Speaking of cleaning, I like the way the ENA4 rinses automatically when you turn it on and turn it off. Two other pluses with the ENA4. The dreg drawer is pretty large so don't have to empty it out as much. Ditto for the drip tray. If there's a real minus with the ENA4 it's the water tank. Others have noted that it's relatively small. It's about half the size of the Incanto Deluxe so I have to fill it twice as often. My machine came with the Clearyl filter so I'm using it. But I don't really need it because I use filter water and won't replace when it's done with it's useful life. All in all, I'm really happy with the ENA4. We use it pretty much everyday to make a couple of lattes in the morning. Fast and convenient.

There is simply no better machine on the market when you consider the bang-for-the-buck ratio. Weeks of serious online exhaustive research convinced us that this is the one we were looking for in replacement of a 20+ years old Saeco, in addition to visits to local specialized shops. Manual frothing takes a little getting used-to and is very milk-dependant (in our opinion)t; try 1%, 2% and 3.25% to find your match. We bought the accessory FrothExpress attachment - which is admittedly a little expensive - but is really a must to get the most out of the machine's capability. This is why Steaming earned a 4 out of 5 as the exception to the rest of the ratings. But for that price, perfection would be hard to find anyway... !

I read the reviews for several machines, before deciding that the ENA4 was for me. Negative comments about the frother were a concern for me, I even bought the FrothXpress as a "fix". However, it turns out that the FrothXpress doesn't make as good a froth as I can with the standard frothing wand and I have had none of the reported problems frothing. Perhaps the secret is to attach the frother to the machine when both are dry? Anyway, design and build quality are important to me. This machine ticks all the boxes in those categories and it makes fantastic cup of coffee! The cleaning frequency has been described as aggressive and I would agree. It cleans itself in the first start of the day and on every shutdown. This is a major bonus for me, I'm glad to see it pumping some hot water through the system to clean out any dregs. Service from WholeLatteLove was good, but not great. Shipping could have been faster (in my opinion). That being said, I would still recommend them and am delighted with the product.

I read reviews of this machine before buying it. Was concerned about the frothing wand coming off when steaming. I found that when put on wet, right after cleaning, it would fly off when steaming. I allowed it to dry before connecting, and it has stayed on when steaming since. This 3 months has made good coffee.

ENA 4

This machine makes great espresso. It's very easy to use once you have gone through the process a few times. The machine heats up prior to steaming milk which takes a minute but the milk steams quickly. The ability to program coffee strength and cup size is great.

Great Machine!

I love this machine so far and the quality of the espresso is amazing. My kitchen is small so I love the size. IT requires me to fill the water reservoir daily but that is fine with me so the water is always fresh. The fact that you don't have to remove the brewing group to clean is a huge plus. Changing beverage size on the fly is a breeze.

What's Best About this Product?

Size, espresso quality (great crema) and that is is truly automatic. The bypass doser is awesome! I keep decaf beans in the machine for my wife and simply use the bypass for me which is incredibly simple and not bothersome whatsoever.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

I have noticed that I have to be careful to make sure steam wand is fully seated prior to steaming milk or it will fly off which creates a mess. Simple solution is to just hold the wand (the rubber part - not the metal) for a split second when the steam starts. This will prevent any issues.

Outstanding espresso / Great design

After weeks of research we ended up selecting the Jura-Capresso ENA 4. I was a bit skeptical that this small little super automatic could really replace our larger manual and brew quality espresso. I went to a local retailer and was fortunate enough to be able to use a demo unit. I was amazed by how simple and intuitive the ENA 4 is to use; while at the same time provides a level of flexibility and control well beyond my expectations. The Jura-Capresso site has some great video demos as well as other info that is worth checking out. http://capresso.com/automatic-coffee-centers-ena3-4.shtml If you're looking for a super automatic, I highly recommend you take a look at the ENA. Our unit has exceeded our expectations. Great espresso and lattes!

Hello, I am very interested in this machine, but have one concern - reviews of it on other Web sites (no worries, if I purchase it, it will be here; the price is right, and a friend highly recommends you) indicate that there is a issue with the steamer wand "flying off" during steaming, resulting in a big mess as well as a burn hazard when steam shoots everywhere. Yet, the reviews stating this (there are several) are all at least 1 year old.

I am wondering if this apparent design flaw has been corrected by Jura with this current model? Have you heard of this issue with this machine before?

Thank you...

mjackson ♦ I have discussed this issue and according to Jura it has been most likely happening beacuse of improper cleaning and re-attachment of the steam wand. It would be great if current owners of the machine could chime in.

Hi: I am looking to replace my Solis Master 5000. I loved that you could vary the brew from espresso to more of a drip coffee equivalent. We did not use the machine to froth milk. I did NOT like that I had to replace the boiler gasket in the machine TWICE. So far I've looked at this Jura, the Gaggia Brera and the Platinum Vogue mostly because they are in the same price range. Do you have a suggestion for something that will achieve the coffee quality of the Solis with fewer maintenance issues? Thanks.

mjackson ♦ Jeffrey,

I think you may want to look at the Jura as it will allow you to make a strong cup of coffee. At maximum dose it will allow you to use up to 15 grams of coffee. I also think they are very well made. As with any machines preventative maintenance can be useful to prevent problems. Soft water and non oily beans will help. I do like the Jura best for your needs. I hope this helps and thanks for the question.

Right now that machine is a great buy. It carries a two year warranty through Jura and they do very well in customer support and troubleshooting. There is not an extended warranty offered through them. I hope this helps let us know if there is any other questions you have.

Hello, I am in the market for a nice espresso maker without spending too much as I am concerned that over time (+ 1-2 years) the machines will eventually break down or tire out. I am debating over the Jura Capresso Impressa ENA4 or the Gaggia Unica Super Automatic Espresso Machine. The Gaggia price looks inviting but not sure of its performance and since it's an exclusive I have some doubts. Please advise on the difference of 15 bar vs. 18 bar pressure and overall comparability of the two machines beyond the $400 price difference. Thanks for your insight!

mjackson ♦ Pauline,

I think they both have good qualities. I do think they both have good qualities. The Unica does brew a great shot with its ceramic burrs. It also certainly is at a great price. The Jura has more features such as a by pass doser, so you can brew another coffee then what you have in your bean hopper. It also has a dose adjustment for the quantity of coffee. They both are reliable machines. The bar pressures does not make any difference as they both will brew at 9 bars of pressure.

So I'm looking for a new super automatic. We've used a Gaggia Classic for the past 4 - 5 years and, while it has been a very dependable machine, we have decided to upgrade. This unit seems like a very good deal at this price - is there another super automatic under $1,000 that you would recommend over this one? We probably make 4 - 5 espressos per day, and don't really do much milk steaming, so pretty basic. We would like something as reliable as our classic has been, but with the ease of use of a super automatic. Thanks!

mjackson ♦ Greg,

The Jura is a good choice. You may also want to consider the Gaggia Brera as it has ceramic burrs and will make excellent shots. I think if you drink espresso and especially if you use a darker bean you may want to consider using the Gaggia as it will work better in that situation.

Can you tell me if there other coffee espresso makers like this. I am looking for a duel machine that grinds, brews both coffee and espresso that is reliable and easy to use at about $1,000.

I am very interested in the ENA 4, but I would like to know what warranty is for Jura (time fram, covered items etc.) as well as what is not covered by the warranty. Thanks for your time.

mjackson ♦ John,

Thanks for the question. The warranty is two years and here are more details. offee machines, Grinders and Semi-automatic espresso machines have a 1-year parts and labor warranty directly through Capresso. Super Automatic machines are commercially rated and carry either a 2-year (or 6,000 cups) parts and labor warranty if used residentially or if used in an office/ commercial environment it carries a 6-month warranty directly through Capresso. Warranty questions can be directed to Capresso at 1-800-767-3554 or via email contact@capresso.com I do not thnk you will haev to use the warranty as they are very reliable machines.

We cannot get the machine to make anything more than mediocre foam. Very thin and flat. We only use raw, whole milk, could that be the issue or is there something we are missing? Thanks for any help!

mjackson ♦ The machine will forth well. If you try a pasteurized skim milk for instance, it will work well for you. The milk needs to be cold an also use a steaming pitcher for best results. You can watch demos on video of the machines to make sure your technique is correct.

When all is said and done what is the difference between the Jura ENA3, 4 and 5 machines?

mjackson ♦ Jonathon,

There are some differences. The 3 and the 4 are the same except for the finish. The 5 has two froth options included one is the Dual Frother Plus or it also comes with the frothXpress system which automatically steams the milk for you. The 5 also allows you to program two different brew sizes but gives you a dial to change the settinsg manually while you are brewing as far as size you want to brew. Those two things the additional frother, and programming on the fly are really the difference between the two.

rorlando Both machines are great machines. The Saeco machines are manufactured in Italy. The Jura machines are Swiss made. The Jura can grind out 16 grams of coffee, it also has a by pass doser so you can enjoy decaf at night. If you need any further help you can call and ask for one of our friendly sales staff.
