Espresso Machine Review: Jura-Capresso Impressa C5

Features

Innovative and affordable, the Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 offers fully automatic capabilities at a budget-friendly price. The Automatic Coffee Center’s claim to fame is as simple as this, “Grind, tamp, brew, and clean in under 60 seconds, with the push of a button.” It’s a promise that Jura-Capresso delivers on, with a user-friendly controls and world-class features.

The well-appointed Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 has a unique variable brewing chamber that can hold anywhere from five to 16 grams of ground coffee, which means your possibilities are limitless! Make anything, from a single 1oz ristretto or two 8oz cups of coffee with the push of a button. The Jura-Capresso C5’s flexibility makes it ideal for entertaining, as you’ll be able to cater to your guests’ individual tastes and preferences. And, if you hate the post-brew cleanup, you’ll love the Jura-Capresso Impressa C5. Self-monitored and automatic rinsing and cleaning programs will keep the machine in great shape, even if you’re not a stickler for maintenance.

With its cool, stylish design featuring a unique rotary dial and fully automatic functionalities, the Jura-Capresso Impressa C5 really does impress! And, as far as super automatics go, this model has a tiny footprint of only 11x14 inches, making it one of the most space-efficient machines on the market.

Grinding

A true Automatic Coffee Center, the Impressa C5 has an integrated commercial-grade conical burr grinder with six separate grind fineness settings. The grinder’s stainless steel burrs make it especially adept at reducing heat and static, resulting in more consistent and flavorful grinds.

Bypass Doser

If you indulge in pre-ground, decaf, or a wide variety of coffee, you’ll love the bypass doser—which will allow you to skip the grinding and go straight to the brewing process.

Brewing

The Impressa C9 has an 18-bar pump and Thermoblock Heating System to ensure fast consistent temperature as well as optimal brewing and steaming conditions. Best of all, the unit’s Two-Step Aroma System, a gentle pre-infusion process, allows it to extract flavorful, aromatic coffee. The C5 also has self-adjusting dual spouts; brew one or two shots of espresso at one!

Steaming and Frothing

The Dual Frother System has with two settings—one for steaming and another for frothing—allowing you to indulge in authentic cappuccino and lattes. You can froth directly into your cup or a pitcher.

Rotary Dial

The Impressa C5 is the first C-Series model to include an illuminated rotary dial. With a turn of the dial, the illuminated symbols will allow you to choose from espresso, crema coffee, and one or two-cup selections.

Cleaning, Rinsing, and Descaling

All cleaning and maintenance functions are stored in the Impressa C5’s memory system. As with all super-automatic espresso machines, this model is very low-maintenance—automatically taking care of the cleaning and rinsing necessary to keep the unit in optimal condition. The C5 will also alert you when descaling is needed.

Water Filtration System

The Impressa C5 also has an integrated Clearyl Blue Water Filtration System (model # 67879) with a 64oz capacity that will help prevent scale buildup in your machine, as well as ensure that your beverages taste fresh.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

C5 does the job

So I've had a manual machine the better part of the last decade. My Expobar Office Pulsar finally gave in after 8 years. On the market for a replacement when I came across the C5. Super-automatic has proven a good choice and I'm not sure what this machine could do that would make it better. Their higher-end models have more bells and whistles, but I'm making espresso not starting a band - so I'm pretty happy. I use mostly WLL Malabar Gold beans. The grind is easy to adjust as are shot times. It is no where near as good at steaming or foaming as the Expobar was. Again, I drink espresso so no great loss.

Great Machine!

I had researched many super-automatics, and decided on the C5. Couldn't be happier with my decision! Espresso (ILLY Medium Roast) has the perfect crema and a smooth, non-bitter taste. I also added the Professional Frother Add-On and the Cool Control Milk container to enhance my coffee experience. I would highly recommend this machine!

Jura c5

We got this machine as replacement for our c1500, which had many, many thousands of coffees for us. We were sad to replace but it seemed like the grinder was dead. This new machine is quieter, and even easier to use. Part of the reason is that there isn't quite the same number of options. The serving sizes are pre programmed, but they are good sizes. The espresso setting makes better than the c1500. Regular coffee seems the same good stuff. The frother is great! Overall a nice automatic machine that makes lots of good coffee quickly and easily.

I am thinking of buying a Jura C5. I have heard that you should avoid using an oily bean. Seems like a dumb question, but how will I know. We normally use Rio Grande Roasters whole beans in our current maker. I am not sure if this would be considered "oily". Any tips would be appreciated!

A A Michele,
I am not familiar with those beans... However, if you can easily see oil on the beans, then they are not going to be good for your machine. If you look in a back of Starbucks Coffee, you will see what I mean about "clearly seeing oil".

How do you like this machine? I am having a problem with the right darkness of the coffee.

I am not sure what your question means if you are having trouble getting a dark enough coffee or if you are having trouble grinding a dark coffee bean. If you are not getting a strong enough coffee then up your dosage in the programming to get a stronger cup. Also make your grind finer. This will help. If you are having trouble with a darker oilier bean then it may be wise to try a lighter roasted bean that will give you a stronger taste. I would try the Lavazza Super Crema. It will give you a stronger taste without the dark roast problems you are experiencing.I hope this helps and let us know if you have any questions.

what is the most important feature for getting the hottest espresso is it the pump or other aspects

0

Michael Rosso ♦ Alcira...The pump provides the pressure to extract the espresso during the brewing process. Espresso is brewed between 8 to 9 bars of pressure. The hottest espresso is determined by how the engineers have designed the boiler and heating element to work together. Other factors include what type of brew group the machine uses and if it is heated. Also Pre-brewing and keeping the porta filter (in the case of a semi automatic espresso machine)hot by leaving it attached to the brew group when not in use. Thanks.

Dear Mark, I bought a Delonghi magnifica from starbucks about three years ago, I'm thinking of buying a Jura c5 I notice the bar pressure of the Jura is 18, the delonghi is 15, does a higher bar pressure give you a better creama, I miss the Brooklyn cafes, I live in North Dakota now and they don't have a clue what real espresso is. Is there another machine in the same price range that has a higher than 18 bar pressure. Thanks for your time. Steven Gallo

Michael Rosso ♦ Steve...Higher pressure does not make better espresso. Espresso is best brewed at 8 bars of pressure. In fact if the pressure is too high it will alter the taste of the espresso.

I am looking for the specs on this machine. I would like to compare it to another one that I am considering. Is there a reason why there are no specs listed for this machine?

Thank you,

mjackson ♦ Sharon,

I am sorry there is not specifications on that machine. We try to update as often as possible. It is a very good machine and is similar to the ENA 3 by Jura but the C5 has a lit rotary dial for you coffee brewing selection. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions.

Good Afternoon,

We are thinking of purchasing the Jura Impressa C5 for our company. Will this unit be sufficient for an office of 10 employees? Or do we need to get a higher model? If we need the upgraded model - are there lease options available?

Please advise.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

ToddS Will this machine work for an office wtih 10 employees? Well, it depends on what you expect out of it. If you expect to blast through 10 cappuccino's at break time then you will be disappointed. If it is going to get occasional use by 5 out of the 10 folks then not problem. Remember that this is home machine so you will have to empty the drip tray and used coffee container quite a few times. You may want to look at the Gaggia Titanium Office as it has a much larger used coffee container and drip tray. If everybody at the office is looking to turn the break room into a cafe then you may want to look at a "prosumer" machine like the Expobar that can brew and steam at the same time. With it you will need a good grinder and your capacity will increase but it will take a little more training.
