While the type of machine you use to brew coffee or espresso is important, and the type of beans you use greatly influences its flavor, the key to getting the most out of your coffee is how it’s ground. And a professional quality grinder makes all the difference. The Pro Line Burr Coffee Mill from KitchenAid is deceptively simple. It's stunning hourglass design is home to some of the finest commercial caliber features found in a home grinder, featuring 15 grind settings, a large 7-ounce bean hopper and a glass coffee bin. But getting down to brass tacks, what sets the Pro Line apart is its internal workings. The stars of the grinder are the large, 2 1/4-inch diameter flat cutting burrs made of stainless steel for precision and longevity. Powering the burrs is a low-RPM motor that not only reduces noise, but more importantly the frictional heating that occurs in faster motors that harms or burns the grinds.
Housed in die-cast metal finished in a stunning nickel pearl gray or onyx black and protected with KitchenAid’s amazing two-year hassle-free warranty, this is a grinder that’s going to outperform, outlast and outshine the competition. In fact, KitchenAid guarantees it.
Features & Benefits: Coffee
Construction
The motor housing on the Pro Line is made of an incredibly durable, sturdy die-cast metal. In fact, this thing is a little tank. But aside from being resistant to the abuse that comes with heavy day-to-day use, its also a good looking grinder. Its nickel pearl gray or onyx black finish and overall hourglass design make it a stylish addition to any gourmets kitchen.
Multiple Grind Settings
The Pro Line Burr Coffee Mill has 15 grind settings and will grind from fine for espresso machines to coarse enough for french press and everything in between. To choose your grind setting, simply turn the grind knob on the front of the machine in half step increments. The numbers go from 1 to 8, 1 being the coarsest, 8 being the finest.
Low RPM-Motor
A motor that runs too fast turns the grinding burrs too fast, creating excess heat. This heat can actually damage or in some cases destroy the flavor and aroma of your coffee because it can burn it. Thats why the Pro Line has a slower moving motor. It turns the burrs fast enough to grind evenly and quickly, but not so fast that it causes any damage to the beans. The slower speed also reduces static in the coffee so it doesnt cling to the side of the grind bin. And it also produces far more torque (power) than faster motors, which means less strain on the motor and associated mechanisms for a longer life and less wear on the grinding burrs.
Flat Grinding Burrs
The Pro Line's flat burrs have an oversized diameter of 2 1/4 inches. This larger area means a precise, consistent grind without wearing out. And because they are made of stainless steel, they will last even under heavy use conditions. The stainless steel increases the life of the burrs, and makes them less resistant to damage that can be caused by small stones that sometimes end up in a bag of coffee beans.
Switch On, Switch Off
The Pro Line is easy to use. Simply switch the on/off switch on the side of the machine on to grind. Turn it off to stop grinding.
Bean Hopper
The bean hopper on the Pro Line can hold up 7 ounces of beans and can be removed from the motor with a simple twist. Its top is a black plastic cap that presses on or pops off for easy access to the hopper. Both the hopper and lid are dishwasher safe as long as you put them on the top shelf.
Ground Coffee Bin
The Pro Line comes with its own self-contained ground coffee bin. Its made of glass to further reduce static that is inherent in the grinding process. It easily slides into place under the grind spout and is held in place by a bin seal plate to prevent coffee grinds from spilling out during grinding. The bin can then slide out for emptying and can be put on the top shelf of the dishwasher for cleaning.
