Essential Info:
Recognized around the world for their quality, functionality and longevity, Krups coffee makers have revolutionized the way the world brews coffee. The Krups KM7000 Pro Grinder and Brewer is another example of how Krups is improving the conventional way of brewing. The KM7000 features a powerful conical burr grinder, 10-cup glass carafe, pause and serve anti-drip valve and 24-hour programmable timer.
Controls:
There are nine control buttons on the KM7000 Pro Grinder and Brewer. The On/Off button turns on the machine and allows you to turn off the machine at any time during the brewing cycle. You can adjust the number of cups brewed by pressing the Cup button between 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10-cup settings. There is also an Aroma button, which allows you to adjust the brewing time if you’re brewing a smaller pot of coffee. The Strength button allows you to brew 3 strengths – mild, medium and strong. An Auto-On button allows you to program your KM7000 to make coffee up to a day in advance. The Filter button allows you to override the grinder and use pre-ground coffee in either a paper filter or a gold-tone filter, which can be purchased separately. All of these programming features are easily read on the orange illuminated LCD display, along with the clock. In addition, there are 3 buttons along the bottom of the control panel that allow you to adjust the Clock feature and timing of the Auto-On function.
Performance:
Operating the Krups KM7000 Grinder and Brewer is relatively painless. It’s easy to operate, pretty self-explanatory and has several features that make it one of the top all-in-one grinder/brewer combination machines on the market. The fact that the KM7000 comes with a Duo Filter water filter insert is nice. It’ll need to be replaced after 2 months. A locking feature on the bean hopper means grinding can only commence when the hopper is locked and filled with beans. To adjust the grinder between its 5 settings, simply adjust the dial on the front of the hopper. Just below that is the ground coffee supply channel with clear lid – so you’ll be able to see the coffee on its way to be brewed. If you opt to use preground coffee, it’s easy to use the filter feature. A thumb tab allows you to pop open the swivel filter basket, insert either a #4 paper filter or a gold tone basket and brew once the Filter button is pressed. The engineers at Krups also added a warming plate designed to keep your glass carafe warm for up to 2 hours.
Construction:
The Krups KM7000 is a household coffee maker designed to look great on your counter. Its solid ABS plastic construction with stainless steel accents, 10-cup glass carafe, clear plastic bean hopper and durable buttons were designed to give you years of use, while not going out of style.
Carafe:
The Krups KM7000 is equipped with a no-drip spout on the rim as well as a removable carafe lid to help keep heat in. A plastic ball on the bottom of the brewer adjusts, and when the carafe comes in contact with it, it begins brewing. This is essential for the pause-and-serve feature.
Hot Plate:
A hot plate designed by the German engineers at Krups will keep your fresh-brewed coffee warm for up to 2 hours. The warming plate automatically comes on when the KM7000 is turned on. There is no separate shut off for this feature.
Reservoir:
The reservoir on the KM7000 holds 50 oz of water. It’s extremely easy to figure out how much water to add – there are stepped level indicators inside the reservoir. The reservoir is easy to access, just flip up the large lid and add water into the top of the machine.
Water Filtration with Duo Filters:
The Krups KM7000 comes with a vegetable-based Duo Action water filter (Krups item # 472-00). This filter will keep your coffee free of chlorine and lime scale. Water is purified as it runs out of the reservoir and through the filter. The curved plastic filter only fits a single way in the tank, so it’s easy to install. You’ll need to change this filter approximately every 2 months to keep your machine running well, and your coffee tasting its best.
Coffee Filter:
The KM7000 comes with #4 paper filters to get you started. However, if you’re looking for a more environmental way to brew, you can purchase a permanent filter for the machine. The coffee filter basket is removable, and the holder swivels open by a release button on the right side of the machine.
Accessories/Re-order:
The Krups KM7000 includes a detailed instruction manual, charcoal water filter, paper filters and re-order information. The Duo Action water filter can be re-ordered in packs of 2, and is listed as part # 472-00.

I have had this coffeemaker for a year and a half. The first week I used it there were problems with the grinder and I had to send it to KRUPS for repair. They took care of the S&H, so that was a plus. What I discussed with the representative was the kind of coffee beans I was using -Caribou French Roast, and she told me that if thy were oily beans, they certainly would clog the grinder. Actually, the manual does mention it. I just thought that Caribou coffee beans were OK. After researching coffee beans I decided to try Lavazza Espresso Supreme Crema beans, and have not had any trouble at all for about 18 months. My KRUPS works like a charm and I love it!

This makes excellent coffee and is easy to clean, but it is not reliable. After 13 months, the grinder died. Krups was nice enough to extend my warranty and repair it for free, although it cost me $30 to send to the repair center. A year later, the heating coil died, and I'm not sure it is worth repairing. My previous Cuisinart grind and brew lasted almost 10 years, although it was a real pain to clean. The Krups carafe lip is poorly designed, and it drips when poured.

Redesign the carafe lip so it doesn't drip down the side of the carafe onto the counter. Allow the coffee to be kept warm for up to 4 hours (as my Cuisinart did). Have a larger coffee bean reservoir. Allow some parts to be repaired by the customer instead of sending it to a repair facility.

We bought this expensive machine, and it worked well for about 4 months. Then the grinder broke, so now I'm back to grinding coffee in a separate device and transferring it to this, leaving grounds all over my counter top. I think for this amount of money the grinder would have a little more life to it.

When it worked, the in-machine grinder device was nice, and the coffee comes out very hot.
Read the manual, it's a little complicated to use the firs time.

So, right out of the box this system had problems. The first one I received came with a defective burr grinder and I had to ship it back to Krups customer service for repair. After 6 (yes, six) weeks I received my coffee maker. So, now for the review...it makes EXCELLENT coffee. Temperature is fantastic, taste is incredible and it is simple and easy to use. However, the problem (again) is the grinder. After 18 months it has dies again. So, personally, I think that if a person pays $150+ for a coffeemaker it should last more than 1.5 years and not have critical components fail. Here is the contradiction...I will probably buy another one! Why? Well, I have found it difficult to find a machine that get the coffee hot enough and having freshly ground and brewed coffee every morning as good as this is tough to give up! Would I recommend it to a friend or others? Probably not as I would not want to recommend a product that is as unreliable as this...without explaining to them that it is a total crap shoot whether the thing works or will work for any significant amount of time.

This is the best coffeemaker I've had -- and it looks great! There are three levels of brew "strength", and 5 levels of coarseness. The coffee temperature is great. The hot-plate stays on for 2 hours (in case anything's left). Pouring from the carafe is great until you reach 9 cups (some spillage beyond 8 cups -- a design flaw common to soooo many coffeemakers and teapots -- so I don't mind). There is a small amount of ground coffee on the counter, but a quick wipe does it. I have used it with pre-gournd coffee, and mixed both types (by adding some ground coffee to the filter prior to grinding) -- and it's great. Also, I really appreciate the easy clean-up. The programming is straightforward. This is an intelligent design at an intelligent price-point.

The coffee temperature, the customizable brew strength and grind coarseness. The programmability. The ease of use and easy clean-up.
Don't be afraid to experiment with brew strength and coarseness. You can even add pre-ground coffee in the filter if you want to mix coffee types or simply want super strong java..

My Krups Pro Grind/Brew pump seems to have suddenly stopped working. The grinder still grinds, but there is no pump/filtration action. Could this be due to calcification, and if so, should I try to descale, or is it too late?

BaristaCorner Hello Scott, We always recommend that you attempt to decalcify in a situation such as this. It certainly can not hurt. We would recommend using a product such as Urnex Cleancaf which we have on sale right now for $9.35 for a 3-pack. Unfortunately, beyond this, you would have to contact Krups directly about this since they would hold the warranty on the equipment. They can be reached at 800-526-5377. If your warranty has expired, we would be happy to help you with your next machine purchase.
The coffee is extremely weak. This has not happened before, but now it doesn't seem to be grinding enough beans for the amount of cups of water.

Tracys ♦ Pat,
Thanks for the great question. You may want to try and change the grind setting to a finer grind and also increase the dosage or amount of coffee. I also would suggest cleaning the grinder. This should get you back to great coffee.

Michael Rosso ♦ Elizabeth...Thank you for your interest in the Krups KM7000 Pro Grinder and Brewer. You will not be able to grind coffee beans fine enough for espresso with this machine. The grinder in this unit has steel burrs, and It grinds according to how many cups you are brewing.
Thanks.
