Suitable Environment

Few things make a customer feel at home like a hot, delicious beverage. What better way to show your hospitality than with the Rancilio Epoca E1, ideal for use in small offices, retail stores, boutiques, and hair salons that want to offer employees and customers high quality espresso. Complete with a cup warmer, heat exchanger boiler, programmable brewing buttons, durable plastic housing, and a stainless steel frame, the Epoca E1 is both functional and stylish. It also connects directly to a water line, so you never need to manually refill it.

Operation

As an automatic espresso machine, the Rancilio Epoca E1 is relatively simple to operate with minor training. To use, you just need to put ground espresso into the portafilter, lock the portafilter in place on the machine, and press the coffee volume level button of your choice. Espresso will automatically stop dispensing once the preset liquid volume is reached.

Programming the brewing buttons will take a more advanced knowledge of proper brewing techniques and liquid volume levels, but day-to-day operations are straightforward. And, as with all espresso machines, learning the nuances of proper brewing, steaming, and frothing will necessitate more in depth training and practice regimens. Users can be directed to the following articles for detailed descriptions of the brewing and frothing processes, but hands-on training is a must for the best results.

Daily Maintenance

  • After each brewing process, the portafilter should be emptied and rinsed, along with the grouphead to prevent the build-up of coffee particles and oils on these components.
  • Backflushing is a procedure we recommend performing nightly. It a quick, 30 second process that will maintain the cleanliness and quality of your machine. For full instructions on this procedure, please follow the link below.
  • Immediately after frothing or steaming, it is recommended that you wipe down the frothing wand with a damp cloth. In addition, you should direct the wand toward the drip tray and open the steam valve to release steam and expel any milk that may be inside the frothing tip. These procedures will prevent milk from adhering to the wand, which can cause health and performance issues if it is not removed.
  • It is also recommended that the drain tray grill be removed nightly and cleaned thoroughly.

Periodic Maintenance

  • To maintain the cleanliness of your portafilters and filter baskets, these components should be soaked in a solution of hot water and backflush cleaner on a weekly basis.
  • The shower screen in the grouphead should also be removed and soaked weekly in the cleaning solution.
  • It is recommended that you remove the tip from your frothing wand and soak it with the other parts on a weekly basis.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!
