I have replaced this gasket three times over my stewardship of great Rancilio Sylvia. Mine is an older model...I don't remember the year I acquired it. I think the old gasket is somewhat difficult to remove. I used to use a flat, small screwdriver, but had difficulty prying the old gasket out of the upside down machine. Today I used a 1/8" woodworking chisel, cutting right through the old gasket and easily prying it out. I am a professional woodworker for 27 years and having a 1/8" chisel is not so odd...but for anyone else to have such a tool would be unusual. They are not common in any hardware store and I purchased mine in the mid 1980s from a woodworking store. Placing the new gasket in its new home was fairly easy, Slowly pushing down on gasket with dull blade screwdriver gently, going around the gasket several times until the gasket was mostly in, then using the portafilter to force it all the way in was a snap. And, it works great again.

Help! There is no "beveled edge" on my new gasket...and which way is "up"? Up towards the inside of the machine...as in towards the ceiling, or "up" as in facing where the group head will come in contact with the gasket? Thanks!

Michael Rosso ♦ Karen...The edge that has letters or numbers on it is the edge that will go up in the brew group. Thanks
