Saeco Royal Professional Espresso Machine Review
Saeco Royal Professional Quick Look

Features

The Saeco Royal Professional 110 volt is a redesigned version of the original Royal Pro. Saeco has made navigation of the machine’s system options dramatically easier by adding an independent menu button and updated control panel. With its low learning curve and capacity for producing between 50 and 100 cups a day, the Royal Professional espresso machine is perfect for home or commercial use. At the touch of a button, it grinds whole beans, doses, tamps, and extracts authentic espresso, complete with a thick, golden crema. The built-in grinder is adjustable for a finer or coarser grind of your fresh beans, but the machine also features a bypass doser for any preground coffee you may want to use. After brewing, the used coffee grounds are automatically ejected into an internal dump box. Saeco has also included the Rapid Steam feature, which allows you to go from espresso extraction to steaming with no wait time! Your milk can be frothed using either the Panarello wand or the Cappuccinatore, which pulls milk from an external container, froths it for you, and dispenses it into your cup. Includes a 7g coffee scoop, grinder cleaning brush, water hardness test strip and a hand priming pump. Available in Silver/Royal Blue.

Please Note: Regulations for commercial use vary between states. Be aware of your local requirements. Machines carrying an NSF approval are labeled as such. Please visit our policies page for warranty information.

Features & Benefits: Coffee

Automatic Coffee Center

This is more then just an "Espresso Machine"! It is easily capable of making any style of cappuccino or latte. In fact, most of our customers use their Super Automatic espresso machines for "crema coffee" instead of drip coffee. Crema coffee is simply an espresso brewed to fill a regular coffee mug. This produces a much more aromatic and flavorful cup of coffee as a result of the pressure brewed process (8 to 10 atmospheres of pressure!) that gravity based drip coffee systems simply cannot match. The Royal Professional 110v will also produce hot water for tea or steam milk for hot chocolate!

Push Button Technology

It really does not get any easier then this. Just press the brew button and the machine does the rest. It will automatically grind and extract the coffee to your desired taste. When the coffee is finished brewing it will place the coffee grounds into an internal dump box for later disposal. Depending on the size of the coffee that you are brewing it will be done in as quick as 35 seconds and ready to brew again.

LCD Display

The LCD display will show you in words what is happening in the machine. It will tell you when to add beans, add water, when to decalcify and even if the brew group is slightly out of place.

Adjustable Beverage Volume

You have total control over the coffee volume (liquid) that is dispensed with three programmable buttons. These buttons come preprogrammed but can be changed easily to suit your needs.

Opti-Dose® - adjustable dosing feature

With Saeco's Opti-Dose system you can control the amount of ground coffee used for each beverage. 6 to 9 grams for a single and 12 to 18 grams for a double shot. Combine this ability with the "programable volume control" and you have total control over coffee strength and flavor at the push of a button. Put away the drip machine forever!

Adjustable Temperature Control

A special feature of the Professional is the ability to control the temperature of the coffee. There are 5 different settiings for maximum control. The settings are Maximum, Minimum, High, medium and Low. For those of you who like a very hot cup of coffee select the maximum setting.

Aroma System®

This is a pre-infusion cycle and is another advantage of this Super Automatic coffee center. The first step takes about 2 seconds as it moistens and conditions the ground coffee. Next a 2 second pause allows the aromatic oils to leach from the interior of the coffee. The second step activates the high pressure pump to ensure absolute maximum flavor extraction with a perfect crema topping

Bypass Doser

This is used with ground coffee only. Perfect for those occasions when you don't want to be "caffeinated" or have decaf-only guests. This is also useful for experimenting with different types of coffees. If you are naturally a decaf drinker then use the bypass doser for regular instead.

Adjustable Coffee Spout

The dispensing spout slides up or down to adjust for different size cups. It adjusts from small espresso cups up to large mugs with no splashing

Bon-Temp® - heating surface

This is a great place to display your cups and preheat them too! Remember that cold cups will lower the temperature of your coffee, detract from the aroma and flavor, and lessen the crema.

Professional Conical Burr Grinder

You can grind from fine to coarse to accommodate any style of coffee roast; light, medium or dark in espresso or regular coffee beans.

Pre-grinding cycle

The Royal Professional has a convenient pre-grinding cycle that will allow you to set the machine to pre-grind after your last coffee extraction. Then the machine is ready for the next person without going through the grind cycle!

Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water

Hot Water Dispenser

Makes a cup of tea or hot cider in 30 seconds.

Cappuccinatore and Steam Wand

The easiest way to froth (for cappuccino) and steam (for latte) your milk is with this patented frother design. You never have to worry about running out of steam under heavy demand when you have friends over. The machine will automatically produce steamed milk for lattes or create froth for cappuccino's. All programmable. Or simply use the traditional steam wand for maximum control.

Features & Benefits: Care, Maintenance & Other

Water Reservoir

The large removable reservoir holds enough water for 40 espressos or 12 cups of coffee at a time. When the water level is low an indicator light will tell you.

Removable Brew Group

The Saeco patented removable Brew Group is easy to remove. Just open the side door and remove with the thumb release lever. This gives you access to everything that touches the coffee when it goes through the brew cycle, including the removable screens.

Bean Container

Grind up to 40 portions of coffee before refilling

Internal Dump Box

The dump box is located inside the machine and easily accessed by sliding out the drip tray. It will indicate when the tray or the dump box need to be emptied.

Energy Saving Mode

Program the energy saving mode to automatically turn on whenever you desire. This will shut the boiler down but keep the controls on and ready.

Swivel Base

The swivel base makes accessing the different parts of the machine for maintenance, refilling water reservoir and bean hopper easy. Just rotate the machine, no lifting required!

Cycle Count

Convenient for those using the Royal Professional 110v machine in a small cafe or office. You can keep count of how many extraction's the machine has performed.

Warranty

All NEW Saeco machines include a one year Saeco Manufacturer's Warranty. Call Saeco at 1-800-933-7876.

REFURBISHED machines carry a 6 month limited parts and labor warranty through Whole Latte Love.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

I was nervous buying a superautomatic espresso maker over the internet that I had never tried before. I had been using a Pasquini Livia 90 for the last eight years. After two months with the Royal I have been very impressed with the consistency of the shots and the minimal maintenance. I would buy this machine again. The appearance isn't sexy but the espresso is.

I have had the machine for more then 4 years now and am very satisfied with it. The machine is soo easy to use my kids can makle espresso, I don't have to do any maintenance on it and only had a minor problem twice in those years. This machine was worth every penny it cost (and more).

It just works, year after year, and coffee quality doesn't fade.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Make sure that you decalcify on a regular basis and don't turn the machine on without the water tank on. You'll get air in the pump (ventilate message). But easy to recover.

4 years and 5,000 coffees later...

We have made over 5,000 coffees with this machine over the nearly four years we've owned it. It has been a truly remarkable workhorse without a single problem! When we have house guests it is almost laughable to see the queue in front of the machine in the morning. And everyone gets to have their coffee the way they like it

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

More than 1 year

What's Best About this Product?

1. Quality of coffee. 2. Quality of construction. 3. Range of programming and brewing options. We grind our beans fine, use nearly the maximum amount per shot, and use the pre-brewing function with the warmest water temperature.

Some Helpful Tips For Using this Product:

Experiment with all the different settings and try different types of coffee. You will definitely note be disappointed with this machine!

My Experience With Using This Product:

Connoisseur

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

I change coffee types with each new pound I purchase. I'll give almost anything a try once. My favorites tend to be dark roasts from Africa.

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

The instructions are a little weak. And our machine is one of the early models that didn't have the double boiler so we have to wait a little to make steam. The new models have resolved this latter problem.

Awsome Machine - Great Cappuccino

I've had the Royal Professional for almost one year and we've brewed over 1,000 coffees/cappuccinis and it is amazing. I don't know how we managed without it before. We are a family of coffee lovers. Everyone in the neighborhodd comes over to get a cup of coffee/cappuccino. The Capresso machine costs over $3,000.00 and does exactly what this one does and it DOES NOT have a cup warmer!!!

I have used this machine for 4+ years--going strong. Great espresso, great to get one cup of fresh coffee at a time. Use at my business (for employees and for customers)--the lattes are coffee shop quality.

Preparing Cappaccino's is a pleasure again.

I bought this machine to replace my 6 year old Capresso that finally took itself out (internal plastic explosion). This model has all the features we need. The cappaccinatore feature makes perfect foam (the kids use it to make steamed milk with flavor shots). We needed a machine with a bypass shoot for visitors who want caffeinated coffee. Programming the three cup sizes was straightforward after the poor manual was deciphered. The coffee comes out consistently to our taste.

How Long Have I Been Using This Product?

What's Best About this Product?

The cappaccinatore has got us started drinking cappaccinos again.

The Coffee I've Tried With This Product:

All Decafs: Caffe Rafe (beans bought from a cafe in Boston's North End), Cafe Motta (bought on line, pre-ground), Starbuck's, Trader Joe's

Some Improvements I Would Recommend for This Product:

A larger water tank would be appreciated. There is a load squealing noise at the end of the coffee cycle (we bought a refurb machine and I was wondering if the new ones make this noise too).

You may want to call Saeco and see if they can help you troubleshoot. It could be a few things and I do not have enough information. It could be that you may need to do some cleaning of your brew group. It could be it happens after you use the bypass doser, I am not sure. I will email you some things to try. I am hoping they will help.

mjackson ♦ Skip,
It is easy to change the programming. Just pick the button you want to program. Press the button and hold it until you reach the desired amount and then let the button go. After that it should dispense that amount every time you push it. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions.

my machine is 4 or 5 years old, the steam pressure from the wand is very inconsistent, it seems some mornings to be stong and then other times it is weak and speratic, sometimes i use a pipe cleaner to try to get a little back pressure but it dosen't seem to keep the pressure for very long. I do use a descaler occasionaly but it dosen't seem to help.

mjackson ♦ Rick,

Tbe descaling may help. It may also mean you may want to get your machien serviced as it could be a bad or going bad steam valve. It is hard for me to say exactly what it may be. I would try to get it to an authorized Saeco repair center and have it looked at. They can give you a much better idea of exactly what the problem may be and how much to fix it.

mjackson ♦ Phyliss,

I am not sure what is happening with your machine. The best thing to do is to call technical support at Saeco. You will want to be at the machine with it turned on when you call and then they can troubleshoot with you when you are on the phone. You can reach them at 1-800-933-7876.
