Features & Benefits: Coffee

Automatic Coffee Center

Unlike traditional super automatic machines, the Primea makes more than automatic espresso. With 2 front spouts that are each capable of dispensing coffee and milk, the Primea can automatically froth and brew into 2 cups at the same time. The Primea’s touch screen features 8 animated drink icons, so you can choose from hot milk, hot water, espresso, coffee, long coffee, espresso macchiato, cappuccino or latte macchiato.

Colorized Touch Screen Display

The Saeco Primea Touch Plus offers a truly unique colorized touch screen display, with Sensitive Touch technology that responds to the touch of your fingertips. Touch any of the 8 drink icons once to brew the programmed single amount or double the coffee amount with a quick double touch. As the Primea brews and froths, your drink icon on the touch screen will gradually fill to show you when your drink is completed. Each drink can be customized according to your individual taste, and all of the Primea’s programming options are easy to access by following the touch screen’s animated guide.

Beverage Programming

The Saeco Primea Touch Plus is equipped with a Touch2Cappuccino System that allows you to make 2 drinks with a single touch or double the amount with 2 touches. The Primea comes with presets for single and double drink settings, but each of the Primea’s 8 drink icons can be modified to suit your individual tastes. If you want to change the settings of a certain drink, such as espresso macchiato, simply hold down the espresso icon for 2 seconds and the “my espresso macchiato” programming menu will appear automatically. The Primea will walk you through each programming step, allowing you to first set the quantity of coffee that will be ground- light, medium or strong. Then you can either touch the “go!” icon to brew the preset amount with your new coffee quantity setting or you can touch the “custom coffee amount” icon or the “custom milk amount” icon to increase the coffee or milk dispensing volume to your liking. The touch screen also features a “beverage setting” icon in the main menu that gives you access to even more customizable options. For each drink icon you can adjust the brew temperature, pre-brew or pre-infusion settings, and you can tell the Primea whether or not you want to use preground coffee. The touch screen also gives you access to Saeco’s “Coffee in the World” menu for a huge selection of preset international recipes.

Coffee in the World

If 8 fully programmable beverage choices weren’t enough, the Saeco Primea Touch Plus features a “Coffee in the World” menu that can be accessed by pressing the “Extras” icon on the touch screen. Thanks to the Primea’s extensive selection of international coffee recipes, you can experience flavors of the world without leaving your home. Choose from Italian espressos or ristrettos to taste the tradition of espresso, or try an authentic French/Swiss coffee to experience the flavors of a real French café. The “Coffee in the World” menu will even make you a morning coffee for a day full of energy or a goodnight latte macchiato that won’t keep you up. And if you find an international drink that you’ll want more frequently, each of the world coffee recipes can be saved to the main drink menu for easy 1-touch access.

Saeco Brewing System

The Primea features a uniquely designed dial on the center of the coffee spout that lets you adjust coffee intensity at anytime. The dial can be adjusted for precise increments between mild, medium and strong, and you can change the intensity before or during the brewing process for an immediate effect on your coffee. Making changes to the dial will automatically adjust the Primea’s brewing cycle to strengthen or weaken the flavor of your coffee.

Instant Steam System

Unlike many home super automatic machines, the Primea Touch Plus features 2 stainless steel boilers that can maintain stable brewing and steaming temperatures simultaneously. For latte and cappuccino lovers this means you never have to wait for your foam. Since the Primea can dispense coffee and milk from both spouts at the same time, the Primea can make authentic lattes and cappuccinos with just the right consistency- a difference you’ll taste right away! Plus, this Saeco espresso machine features a built-in thermostat to give you complete control over water temperature for every kind of drink that you make.

Touch Lift Drip Tray

Another exclusive feature on the Saeco Primea Touch Plus is its unique motorized drip tray. The Primea uses Touch Lift Technology to move the drip tray up or down. Simply press the button on the front of the drip tray to activate the motor, and then release the button when you’ve reached your desired height. The drip tray can be adjusted to fit just about any cup size, from standard espresso cups to tall milk glasses. In addition, the motorized drip tray is removable and hand washable, so you can quickly empty and clean it whenever it’s full.

Bypass Doser

For a machine loaded with features, it’s no surprise to see that it also includes a bypass doser to make brewing preground coffee simple. Whether you’re entertaining guests who want to try something different or you just need a quick cup of decaf, the Primea lets you brew preground coffee anytime you want it. Just fill the Primea’s included coffee scoop with 1 batch of preground coffee and pour it into the Bypass Doser. Next, hold down your preferred drink icon and select preground coffee from the beverage programming menu. Then, just place your cup under the spout as you normally would and the Primea will do the rest.

Low-Noise Ceramic Disc Grinder

For a quiet, consistent grind there’s nothing better than the Saeco Primea Touch Plus. It features durable ceramic grinding discs for a faster grind with less heat than that of metal burr plates. Powered by a low-noise motor with automatic shut-off, you can be sure the Primea’s built-in grinder will deliver safe, consistent grinding for years.

Adjustable Cup Warmer

The Saeco Primea Touch Plus features yet another upgrade that sets it apart from most home super automatic machines. The large warming plate on top of the machine holds 6 espresso cups and has dedicated heat controls to allow you to turn it on or off. The cup warmer will maintain cup heat automatically, even when the machine is in Energy Saver mode, so your cups will always be properly heated and ready for your espresso. You can turn the cup warmer on or off by accessing the “machine settings” menu on the touch screen.

Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water

Automatic Milk Frothing and Steaming

Since the Saeco Primea Super Automatic can dispense frothed or steamed milk from both of the coffee spouts, you can create 2 milk drinks simultaneously. This Saeco espresso machine has the ability to dispense just milk, just coffee or both at the same time. Simply touch a milk drink icon from the touch screen to have a cappuccino, espresso macchiato, latte macchiato or hot milk in moments. You can program each milk drink as you would coffee drinks, giving you virtually unlimited milk and coffee combinations to choose from.

Built-In Milk Container

All of the Primea’s brewing and frothing components are completely internal, which means there won’t be a milk pitcher sitting on your counter every day. The built-in milk container holds 12.5 oz of milk- enough to make up to 4 cappuccinos without refilling. The milk container is located above the water reservoir and easily slides out of the Primea Touch Plus for daily refrigeration and cleaning. Simply remove the milk container after each use and put it in the fridge, or rinse it out if it’s empty. To make the frothing and steaming system even more efficient, this Saeco super automatic comes with an additional milk container so you can always keep 1 ready in the fridge.

Hot Water Dispenser

When you’re in the mood for a hot drink other than coffee or milk, the Primea can dispense hot water for tea or hot chocolate. A flexible hot water dispenser behind the coffee spout is always ready to deliver hot water just by touching the tea icon on the touch screen. Like all of the Primea’s drink icons, you can program the water temperature and volume for a 1-touch hot drink made just the way you like it.

Features & Benefits: Care, Maintenance & Other

Removable Water Reservoir

The Saeco Primea Touch Plus has a large capacity 68 oz water reservoir that can be easily removed for fast refilling and cleaning. Located just below the milk container on the left side of the machine, the water reservoir is made of durable clear plastic on the inside and graphite plastic on the exterior to seamlessly blend into the machine’s external paneling.

Aqua Prima Water Filter

To reduce mineral deposits and improve the taste of your espresso, the Primea Touch Plus comes with an Aqua Prima water filter. The water filter is designed to protect the Primea’s brewing components from limescale build-up while improving the quality of your water, so each cup of coffee tastes pure.

Automatic Timer and Energy Saver

The Saeco Primea Touch Plus features an automatic timer so that your machine will automatically turn on and off at different times. You can set the timer for up to 3 different on and off times, and you can also tell the Primea what days you want to use the timer. With 3 different timer options for each day, you can adjust your Saeco machine to be ready to brew whenever you are- any day, any time. Saeco super automatic can even be ready to brew right when you get up. In addition to the on/off timer, the Primea also gives you the option to use the Energy Saver, which can be set to shut down 15 minutes to 3 hours after the last cup has been poured.

Durable Brew Group

This Saeco super automatic is equipped with a sturdy brew group for reliable shot consistency and better heat retention. Plus, the Primea’s brew group can be easily removed for regular cleaning. Located just behind the service door on the right side of the machine, the brew group features a handle for hassle-free removal.

Milk Rinse Cycle

To maintain the freshness of your milk drinks and to keep the milk tubes clear, the Primea has an automatic milk rinse cycle that should be performed after each use. The cycle is automated, and the Primea will prompt you by flashing “milk rinsing cycle” after it’s finished making a milk drink. Since the rinsing cycle is designed to pull water through the milk hose, you must clean out the milk container and fill it with fresh water or use the additional milk container as a clean water reservoir. The Primea will allow you to continue using the machine without performing the “milk rinsing cycle” for about 20 minutes, after which point the machine cannot be used until you perform a milk rinsing cycle. To run the milk rinsing cycle, just put fresh water in your milk container, then place a large container beneath the coffee spouts. Once you touch the “start rinsing cycle” icon on the touch screen, the Primea Touch Plus will handle the rest.

Easy Cleaning

Like all of the Primea’s brewing functions, the machine’s cleaning cycles are completely automated with only a few exceptions. After 2-3 weeks of use, the Primea will prompt you to use the included cleaning pin to clean out the milk entrance in the milk container. This will ensure that your milk system is as clean as possible, so you won’t have to worry about clogging or sanitation issues. You will also need to descale your machine about every 3 months, and the Primea will alert you when it’s time. Simply follow the animated cleaning guides along with your product manual and you’ll have no trouble keeping your Primea Touch Plus in top shape.

Wheel Base

A nice additional feature to the Saeco Primea machine is its unique wheel base. Most home espresso machines must be lifted to move around, but with the Primea you can easily wheel the machine to any location across your countertop.

Accessories

To make start up and routine operation simple, the Saeco Primea Touch Plus comes with a range of helpful accessories including a user manual, an additional milk container, coffee scoop, milk container cleaning pin, applicator, water hardness tester, lubricant for the brew group, cleaning detergent and a cleaning brush.

A great machine. I believe it's worth the money if prefer all functions automated. I do, so I like it. Makes great espresso (and I do like it strong) and cappucino, as well as simple drinks like hot, frothy milk. The machine's design is great. There are multiple language settings (at least 10 different ones). Timer function is awesome. You can set the time, and the machine will turn on and be ready for use at whatever time you specify. Again, the machine is great.

My wife and I bought this machine in celebration of her completion of graduate school. We wanted something that provided a good variety of settings, an automatic milk frother, and (most importantly to her) one that did a good job cleaning up after itself so she wouldn't need to worry about remnants of milk going bad in the machine. While it is expensive, this machine lives up to the advertisements. The coffee is excellent, the crema thick, and it's amazingly easy to use and maintain.

Question Submitted by TechStarS S
How do I make a hotter cup of coffee? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • You can increase the temperature of your drink anywhere from 10-20 degrees by adjusting the machine’s temperature settings and ensuring that all of your brewing components are preheated properly:

    1. If your machine has adjustable temperature, enter into the machine’s menu mode and choose the temperature setting you want.
    2. While in menu mode, verify that the rinse mode is turned on. The rinse feature runs a quick dose of hot water through the brew spout upon startup. This helps to warm up the internal components of the machine, and also rinses away any coffee build-up that might alter the taste of your espresso.
    3. Run water through your hot water spout and into your cup. This accomplishes two things- It helps to preheat the internal components and it heats the cup as well.

If you're talking espresso, and using ceramic cups, pre-heat your cup. 1 oz of espresso in a cold cup = 1 cup of tepid espresso.

Question Submitted by Paul Tisch
What is the SBS brewing system? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • The SBS brewing system adds an extra level of control by letting you increase or decrease the flow rate of your espresso. A decreased (restricted) flow will give you a stronger, more robust flavor, since the water and grounds are infusing for a longer period of time. If you have a very robust bean, but want a mild brew, you simply turn the dial counterclockwise so the water flows faster.

Question Submitted by CAREN THEODORAKAKOS
How do I empty the drip tray? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • This machine actually has two separate drip trays. You have probably already emptied the drip tray that is built into the motorized cup tray on the front of the machine. There is also an internal drip tray located beneath the brew group, and that is the drip tray that the message refers to. To access it, open the service door on the right side of the machine. You will see the drip tray next to the dump box, directly underneath the brew group. Remove and empty the drip tray. Replace it and the message will go away.

Question Submitted by Michael Yard
Why does my machine keep asking me to empty the dump box? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • Your machine is designed to count how many shots you’re brewing and then tell you to empty the dump box when it reaches the maximum shot count. The machine does not weigh the dump box or use any sensors to verify if it is in fact full, so if you empty the dump box before it asks you to, it will continue counting.

For example, if it reads "empty dump box" when there is only one puck in there, then you simply need to reset the machine so it can begin counting your shots properly. To do this, just remove the dump box while the machine is on and giving you the "empty dump box" message. Then, leave it out for about 30 seconds so that the machine knows to reset the count to 0. Finally, replace the dump box and the message should go away.

If this does not solve the problem, contact us and we will help you test the micro switch to make sure it is working properly.

Question Submitted by deborah lamkin
how do I get stronger shots? click to open/closeopen and close answer
  • In order to get the maximum strength/flavor from your machine, follow these steps:

    1. Depending on your machine, increase the fineness of your grind by changing your grind setting to a low number or small dot.
    2. Reduce the water volume to 1 oz.
    3. Adjust the amount of ground coffee used for each shot (up to 9 grams at the maximum setting).
    4. If you want to brew more than 1 oz, press the brew button twice and the machine will go through 2 brew cycles automatically.
