Features

Part of the Odea line designed by BMW DesignworksUSA, the Odea Giro Plus features Saeco's latest innovations including a Giro (dial) interface, ceramic disc grinder, drip tray with manual Touch Lift technology, and OptiDose, to adjust the aroma of your favorite coffee. Thanks to Rapid Steam®, you can use the redesigned steam wand to create delicious frothed milk in just a matter of seconds. It also dispenses hot water for tea. Using the Giro dial to adjust beverage volume, it is easier than ever before to customize and brew gourmet coffee drinks at home. Designed with modern form and function, the Odea Giro makes a statement in both style and flavor.

Removable brewing unit

The heart of Saeco automatic machines is the patented removable brew group. This device allows the machine to tamp, brew and dispense the coffee in one cycle. The brew group can be removed at the push of a button, for convenient rinsing and chemical-free cleaning. This brew group is exclusive proprietary Saeco technology and one of the unique advantages that has made Saeco the world leader in automatic espresso machines.

Ceramic grinder

The ceramic disc grinder is one of Saeco’s recent innovations. It provides an even grind, allowing perfect dosing and blending, giving you more control over the density and body of your coffee. Because ceramic is inert it will not absorb the flavor of the coffee overtime, it is much more durable, and grinds considerably quieter

Giro interface

The Giro Interface is a new innovation available for the Odea Giro. Thanks to its coffee control dial and large buttons, you can prepare coffee and your favorite drinks with minimal effort, in just a few minutes. Alert lights to the left of the dial give clear, instant details for each function.

Rapid-steam

Rapid Steam® technology reduces the normal waiting time between brewing coffee and steam output to just a few seconds. A separate heat exchange for steam provides fast and continuous steam pressure for frothing milk within seconds.

Energy Safe

If your Saeco machine sits idle, Energy Safe mode is automatically activated. The machine can also be set to stand-by mode to run even more economically

Adjustable drip tray

The adjustable drip tray can be easily raised or lowered allowing different cup sizes. Espresso cups or glasses can easily be accommodated. It is also removable for easy cleaning. No matter what mood you’re in, we can fit the mug that goes with it.

Cup holding surface

Large cup stacking surface, conveniently holds up to six espresso cups.

Intenza water filter

INTENZA is a new and innovative water filtering system designed by MAVEA that eliminates lime and impurities present in the tap water, thus protect the coffee machines. The innovative INTENZA technology reduces limescale build-up to provide a longer machine life and to optimize the brewing pressure and temperature of your Saeco espresso machine.

In addition to removing lime and metallic residue, such as copper and lead, which may be present in domestic water pipes, INTENZA also reduces substances that can affect the flavor of the coffee, such as chlorine and chlorine-based compounds. As a result, you get a perfect cup of coffee with a natural and intense aroma and a rich and creamy foam.

INTENZA is equipped with the unique Aroma System – a special mechanism used to adjust the filtration process to local water conditions to get the balanced composition of water for a truly exceptional espresso.

Awesome Machine!

Got this beauty for xmas and I couldn't be happier. I watched many videos online before getting the machine and I am totally satisfied. One thing is that it is much quieter than it comes across on video. It wakes up within a minute and steam is ready right away. The coffee is amazing with great cremma. I wish the cup warmer did a better job and that is the only complaint I can speak of.

The taste of coffee coming from this machine is amazing! Recommend using Starbucks Espresso beans. I've tried other beans but none match the smooth, deep taste as their espresso roast. Hot water is a plus with this machine. Also recommend using less water with stronger brew. Seems the more water you use, the "creaminess" of the brew doesn't come through. A few drawbacks: doesn't notify you of low beans until it's too late, thus a cup is made that isn't as strong. Also wish the water reservoir was bigger. Was a bit bummed that most parts are plastic despite the high price tag for the machine. Now coffee at Starbucks doesn't taste as good as coffee from this machine so there is money savings there.

FYI the Inteza water filter does NOT come with this machine. It is an option that you must purchase separately! I have only had the machine for a week, but so far I love the lattes that I have made!

A few questions regarding this machine:
1) How does the wand perform? Is there any chance for latte art? Also, can you "upgrade" with other wands? I saw that the Gaggia Latte art wand works on the Vienna Plus, for example.
2) Putting price aside, would you go with the Vienna Plus or Odea Giro? My gut tells me the Vienna is built to last longer, but I like how the Odea Giro looks much more.

Yes you can use the Latte Art wand and you can then get better milk as it lets you steam and all you results are based on technique. The Giro will make a better shot because of ceramic burrs and also the aroma control that will help get a better result then the Vienna. The Vienna is hard to beat at the price but is a older technology. If you like straight espresso get the Odea.

Somebody I know who has also one of these machines told me that they use beans intended for "coffee" instead of espresso. I noticed that there are warnings against using dark or oily beans with this machine - is that a difference between "coffee" and "espresso" beans? Is there another reason to stick with a certain kind of bean?

mjackson ♦ Thanks and a great question. Just think of it this way coffee is coffee. Any coffee can be brewed as an espresso- espresso means brewed under pressure with a finer grind. An espresso blend is suited for making espresso. You want to use a light to medium espresso blend to help make sure your machine performs well for a long time. I agree a dark roasted bean such as french roast or espresso roast is not what you want to use in your machine. I hope this helps and enjoy some great coffee.

Does the Saeco Odea Giro Plus have a bypass doser? Is it any easier to change the beans to decaf than the Vienna Plus? Other than the ceramic burrs, in what way is the Odea giro better than the Vienna.

A A Al,

Neither the Giro Plus nor the Vienna Plus have bypass dosers. So being able to use decaf beans when you have normal beans in the hoppers is not going to be any easier either way. The Giro Plus does have better clearance for larger cups - as the drip tray is able to come off and not interrupt the brewing. In regards to size, both machines are rather compact, with the Vienna being the shorter one in terms of depth (12.25"), and the Giro Plus being the smaller on in terms of width (11.5"). As you can see from the pictures, the Giro Plus is also a more modern, sleek design compared to the Vienna. Both machines how ever are well built and will serve you well for some time.

I am trying to figure out the difference between this machine and the Saeco Vienna Plus in Graphite. Which is the better one to buy? We currently have a 6 year old Saeco Vienna and it is starting to clock and leak water. Thanks!

mjackson ♦ Darren,
I am a big fan of the Vienna at the price you cant beat it. I would suggest not using a dark or oily bean to have it perform best. The newer Saeco does have the ceramic burrs. I do like the Vienna and as you are already familiar stick with it. If you have leaking you may need to descale more often or try using a better soft water.

mjackson ♦ Zdropik,
i would take a close look at the Saeco Vienna for 399. It is a great price on a new machine that works well and certainly is priced right. You can make all the drinks and also it is a well designed machine. It does not have a lot of extra features but certainly will make a very good coffee. The secret to keep it working is not to use a dark or oily bean, and use soft water. If you do that you will be happy with the machine.

we are replacing a Gaggia Synchronicity Compact that we purchased from you years ago that finally died. do you feel the Saeco odea Plus is comparable? the reviews we read online were not great for that machine ..?? Should we look at the other Gaggia that is exclusive to Wholelotalatte (similar pricepoint). Thank you.

mjackson ♦ I think you are accurate in your assessment of the Odea. In that price point I would look at the Saeco Vienna. It is a good machine for the money. It will be similar to the compact as far as drinks go. It does not have a bypass doser. If you want something almost exactly the same as your machine but nicer look at the Titanium. Call us if you have any questions and thanks for asking.
