David Watts Does the Saeco Vienna Plus has a pump, and if so what is its PSI.
11:02 PM 5-5-12
Michael Rosso David...Thank you for your interest in the Saeco Vienna Plus in Graphite. It uses a 15 bar pump to brew espresso and brews espresso at 8 to 9 bars of pressure. Thanks.

Angel Crespo Would the Saeco Vienna Plus take coffee grinds or only coffee beans? Does it have any pre-programming features? Does it has auto power off for safety and energy savings?
12:48 PM 5-4-12
Michael Rosso Angel...Thank you for your interest in the Saeco Vienna Plus in Graphite. You can use only Whole Beans in this machine, it does allow for some volume programming and power saving mode. I hope this helps, however if you have more questions please contact us directly at 1-888-411-5282 option 1. Thanks.

Louis Napoli First, can you make just breakfast coffee, second, can you vary the amount of water, third, can you change the beans in the bin conveniently and go from caf to decaf easily? Please send a catalog to Louis Napoli 29 Hideaway Dr Long Beach Twp, NJ 08008
7:56 AM 4-20-12
Mark Jackson Louis, You can brew a great cup of coffee easily. It does let you vary the amount of water in any drink you want. It is not easy to change beans. If you want to do that you should look at a machine with a bypass doser like the Gaggia Brera. I hope this helps and we do not have a catalog to send out as all the information is available on line.

John Moelter Our new Saeco Vienna Plus just arrived yesterday. My wife was so excited because we bought one as a Christmas present for parents and loved the brew. She waited until I got home so we could test it together. We set it up, ran a load of water through as per the instructions, primed the pump and loaded with water and beans, pushed the brew button and nothing but the red light saying we needed water or beans. Both were full. Still doesn't work. Any ideas? How does it detect beans?

Mark Jackson John, Sorry for your problems. I am not sure exactly what is going on. I would give our technical support a call. I am not sure the nature of your problems. They should be able to help you troubleshoot and get your machine up and running. Give them a call and they will be able to help.

Jill Stevens I notice that the Saeco Vienna Plus in Graphite is on sale for $399. Is this a new machine, or a refurbished one? I had a Saeco Magic Comfort Plus, and I would like to know how this machine compares to that one, which was much more expensive. Thanks. Jill
4:04 PM 1-4-12
Mark Jackson Jill, I really liked the Magic machines. Here are the differences. The Magic had a by pass doser , rapid steam and more sophisticated programming. The Vienna is a great machine for the price. It will make all your drinks and I actually like the design and the durability of the machine as well. If you want a machine like the Magic take a look at the Gaggia Titanium. It is similar in features as well as a price comparable to what you paid for the Magic. If you have any more questions let us know.

Tina Locklear What size is the water tank? What is the serving size?
3:23 PM 12-13-11
Mark Jackson Tina, For the price this is a hard machine to beat. I really like the way it works and it is simple. Serving size varies, I would brew about 2 ounces for your espresso and for your Cafe Crema brew about 6- 8 ounces for the best tasting cup. If you have any more questions just let us know and thanks.

Theresa Severson I have the Saeco Vienna Deluxe and it won't power up. I have cleaned everything and the doors are all shut. There is nothing wrong with my power. Help me to figure this out! It worked fine yesterday and then all of a sudden today it stopped. I have tried other power outlets, etc. Read the manual and it says to close the "service door". I have done all of this, and it still won't turn on.
10:53 AM 10-19-11
Mark Jackson Theresa, It does seem unusual that this would happen. I can only think you switched off the power . If you did not do that you will want to call our technical support or Saeco at 1-800-933-7876 and they should be able to help.

Rod Brunton I have a Saeco Vienna De Luxe. The side of the bean hopper got accidentally broken. I know where I can get another hopper. Is there anything I should know before trying to change this myself. Also, are all of these quite slow from start to finish, turning on, waiting to heat up, then brewing a shot? My friends have a giro that does all that in about 1-2 minutes. My Vienna takes much longer.
12:31 PM 9-1-11
Rod Brunton Hi Mark, Thanks for the pics. I found where to get the new hopper but was told there were gears in it and you had yo know what you were doing? There is no scale build-up caused by our water.
10:38 AM EST 9-2-11
Mark Jackson Rod I can send you a parts diagram so you can see what you are getting into. Your machien should only take a few minutes to warm up. I am not sure what would cause your issues. It could be scale buildup.

A Super Auto For Every Price Range

In last month's article, we took a look at a few standout semi-automatic machines for every price range. This time around, we're exploring super-automatic espresso for every budget. If you're in the market for a new machine, take a moment to check out our top picks below.

Economy Machine
The Saeco Vienna Plus, available in silver and graphite, is one of our most popular starter machines. While the Vienna Plus may not have all the bells and whistles found on higher-end machines, it is a solid super automatic suitable for daily use. Ideal for the value-conscious espresso lover, this machine is easy to use and maintain.

Surprisingly accommodating, the Vienna Plus can be programmed to brew 1-8 ounces of espresso. This model also features Saeco's famous OptiDose system to let you adjust the amount of beans ground per cup to customize the flavor and strength of your beverage. For full-flavored drinks, the Saeco Vienna Plus comes with a pre-infusion cycle that saturates grounds prior to brewing.

Don't let its price tag fool you; this machine has been outfitted with quality parts and features. Beneath the hood is a stainless-steel lined Thermoblock boiler, capable of quick and efficient operation. To the right of the control panel, you'll find an integrated conical burr grinder with 18 grind settings. A Pannarello wand makes for easy steaming and frothing; it can also dispense hot water for tea or an Americano. When it's time to clean your machine, the brew group pops right out. Just rinse it under a faucet, put it back in place and you're good to go.

Jura-Capresso Impressa ENA5Mid-Grade Machine
A step up from the Vienna Plus is the Jura-Capresso Impressa ENA5. In addition to letting you customize beverage strength and volume, the ENA5 lets you program drink temperatures. It is also equipped with Jura's Intelligent Pre-Brew Aroma System, a two-step pre-infusion cycle that ensures maximum flavor and crema extraction. There is a digital display that acts as an indicator, letting you know exactly what is going on with your machine. Maintenance alerts and programming features are clearly displayed for your convenience.

The mid-grade ENA5 offers the additional option of brewing with pre-ground coffee. If you're an occasional decaf or flavored coffee drinker, the bypass doser will let you prepare drinks from pre-ground coffee and prevent cross contamination with your regular beans. Like the Vienna Plus, the ENA5 has a conical burr grinder, but with this model there are six grind settings to choose from.

A stainless-steel lined Thermoblock boiler minimizes warm-up time and accommodates on-demand water usage. The Impressa ENA5 also eliminates minerals and scale from your tap water using an advanced Clearyl filtration system. The result is great tasting drinks and reduced scale buildup. A dedicated alert will even let you know when the filter needs to be replaced.

Its frothXpress system is another big advantage the ENA5 has over the Vienna Plus. This user-friendly system will automatically steam and froth your milk and dispense it directly into the cup. You can also manually steam and froth using the dual frother plus wand. If you're looking for a well-equipped super-automatic machine, the Jura-Capresso ENA5 may just be the one for you.

Gaggia AccademiaHigh-End Machine
Want to go all out? The Gaggia Accademia is a super automatic machine that's built to impress. This machine has been designed on a one-touch platform so you'll be able to make your favorite drinks with the push of a button. There are seven programmable drink buttons for espresso, caffe, caffe lungo, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and more.

The Gaggia Accademia lets you adjust coffee strength, temperature, and volume. Even the milk options are programmable with the Accademia; you can choose from normal, minimal and no-froth settings. The Milk Management System can add perfected steamed and frothed milk to your cup but since it functions on an external circuit, there milk actually never enters the machine. In addition, this one-touch machine has a stainless steel steam wand to let you manually steam and froth for lattes and cappuccinos; it also doubles as a hot water dispenser.

Gaggia's top-of-the-line machine super automatic has a built-in ceramic burr grinder with seven grind settings. As with the ENA5, the Accademia has a bypass doser to accommodate pre-ground coffee. This model operates on two stainless steel boilers, a vast improvement over both the ENA5 and Vienna Plus. With to boilers, you'll be able to alternate between brewing and frothing without any down time.

Best of all, the Accademia is exceedingly easy to clean and maintain. The milk system has an auto rinse cycle that cleans the circuit after each use to keep it free of residue and contaminants. Also, the brew group is removable so, like the Vienna Plus, the group can be rinsed under tap water. Dedicated maintenance alerts will let you know when the machine needs to be cleaned or descaled. The Gaggia Accademia is an investment that will deliver a world class brewing experience.

If you would like to know a little about the many types of espresso machines we sell, this would be a good video to get you started. This video covers the machines we sell and based on your lifestyle, what you like to drink, and ease of use. It will give you an overview of different espresso machines and help you determine which one best suits to your needs.

I would watch the video and focus on a particular kind of machine—prosumer, semi-automatic, and super-automatic to decide which kind is ideal for you. Then, you can go and look at individual models to get a better idea of exactly what you want. Of course, if you narrow it down to a few espresso machines and are still undecided, give us a call and we would be glad to help!

We had nearly 9 successful years of almost daily use with this machine's predecessor, the Vienna deLuxe, but managed to break it last week...probably fixable, but we don't have the time to bother now (but will try later so we have a spare!). We ordered this one Sunday evening, and it arrived Wednesday morning (today). It is basically the same machine...the few changes are improvements: quieter, less time to heat up, slightly more streamlined design, darker color. It was so easy to get up and running...operation same as the old one. We set the doser and grind exactly same as the old one, and in minutes, we had real coffee again!!! Also, a new steam wand design works perfectly and is much easier to clean than the old one. In spite of this being at the low end (pricewise) of the super-automatics, we couldn't ask for more than the Vienna Plus! (And easy order/quick shipping from Whole Latte Love!) (AND, I believe this new one was about $150 less than the last one!)

This was my first foray into home espresso machines and I wanted something easy to use and that makes good espresso and lattes. I was leaning toward the Nespresso single-serve machines but I was wary of the whole pod thing, and when I called WLL, the salesguy recommended the Saeco Vienna Plus. I've had this machine for a month now and we are very happy with it. Kind of addicted, actually. It's pretty straightforward to use and the directions are well-written. It took me about 2 days to get the basics down, and about 2 more days to be able to make a great latte smoothly and quickly. I like that it takes whole-bean coffee. Maintenance and cleaning are simple. It's fairly noisy but anything that grinds beans, tamps the coffee into a disk for brewing, and produces high-pressure steam is going to make some noise. All-in-all its a great machine.
