Features

The Saeco Via Venezia is versatile, durable, simple and compact. Housed in sleek black metal, and featuring a cup warmer and accessories drawer, the Via Venezia is an ideal choice for the home barista looking for uncomplicated perfection. The pressurized portafilter reduces the amount of control the user needs to have over brewing conditions such as grind setting and tamp pressure, and also comes with ESE pod adaptor capabilities. Easy to use controls, a sturdy stainless steel boiler, and Saeco’s signature Pannarello frothing wand make the Via Venezia an attractive, user-friendly way to get café quality espresso drinks right in your kitchen, time after time. This machine includes a 1 year warranty directly through Saeco.

Features & Benefits: Coffee

High Quality Controls with Brew Ready and Steam Ready Lights

The Via Venezia’s control panel features only three buttons – an on/off button, a brew button and a steam button. The brew and steam buttons are on the left, and both have “ready” indictor lights. Simply turn on your machine on – the on/off button is on the right – and wait for the brew ready light. If you would like hot, frothy milk for cappuccinos or lattes, or even just hot water for tea, press the steam button, which has a steam cloud icon. Making perfect espresso drinks has never been easier!

Brewing on the Saeco Via Venezia

Just turn your machine on and wait for the brew button light to illuminate. Saeco recommends preheating your portafilter before brewing by pulling a “blank shot,” or letting hot water run through the empty portafilter. Next, add grounds or pods to your portafilter, and press the brew button. Espresso will begin dispensing – once you have your desired amount, press the brew button again to stop the flow of coffee.

Boiler

Crafted for safety and durability, the Via Venezia contains a food safe stainless steel boiler and heating element. Stainless steel resists corrosion and retains heat well, and a built in thermostat fuse ensures perfect water temperature and safe heating conditions. A simple decalcification process is recommended ever every two to three months to further protect the life span of the boiler and other internal brewing components.

Pressurized Portafilter

A great tasting espresso and rich crema depend largely on the pressure in the brewing chamber. With commercial portafilters, the user is responsible for creating a precise brewing pressure, using the grind setting, tamp and water pressure. With Saeco’s patented pressurized portafilter, the guesswork is all done for you. When brewing, the filter holder is sealed thanks to a spring-loaded valve, and remains sealed until the pressure in the brewing chamber has reached its ideal point. This takes only a moment before the valve opens and your Via Venezia releases a perfect cup of espresso.

ESE Pod Adaptor

Espresso pods are quickly become a popular way to make quick, consistent espresso drinks. These pods are single servings of pre-ground and tamped espresso, cutting down on any mess or the need to buy a grinder. The Via Venezia comes with a pod adaptor for your portafilter, and a specially created filter basket that works especially for pod use.

Cup Warmer

Cup temperature is very important when making espresso, because it prevents the espresso from losing heat too rapidly. The Via Venezia features a cup holder that safely keeps up to 6 espresso cups warm using residual heat from the stainless steel boiler.

Housing and Construction

The Saeco Via Venezia is compact and attractive in black metal housing, with a sturdy, removable and easy to clean drip tray. A pull out storage drawer fits your portafilter and filter baskets for handy storage without taking up too much counter space.

Features & Benefits: Frothing and Hot Water

Pannarello Frothing Wand

Concerned about your milk frothing techniques? The Via Venezia’s Pannarello wand attachment makes it easy. Get perfect froth for a cappuccino and steamed milk for a latte every time by pressing the steam button once the Via Venezia has heated to brewing temperature. Once the steam button and brew button indicator lights illuminate, the machine is at steaming temperature, so all you need to do is open the steam knob to begin texturing your milk. Remember to wipe down the wand with a damp cloth when you’re finished.

Hot Water Dispenser

Ready for tea, hot chocolate, or even an Americano? The Via Venezia dispenses hot water whenever you need it. Just hit the brew button, wait for the brew ready light and open the steam knob. Hot water will stream out of the frothing wand – just turn the knob counter clockwise to close it.

Features & Benefits: Care, Maintenance, and Other

Water Reservoir

The durable plastic reservoir holds 68 oz of water, and is transparent, so you always know how much water you have left. It is easily removed from the side or even refilled from the top of your machine for an endless supply of coffee or steam. We recommend refilling and rinsing it daily to keep your coffee tasting fresh.

Cleaning and Maintaining Your Via Venezia

To keep your steam wand free of coffee residue, Saeco recommends taking apart the wand apart once a week and cleaning it with fresh water, then reassembling it. Remember to empty and clean the drip tray daily, and the machine housing can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Your portafilter should be removed and cleaned with hot water to keep it free of coffee grounds. You can use the included scraper to remove coffee residue from the brew group gasket.

Included Accessories

The Via Venezia comes with a ground coffee measuring scoop, ground coffee filter holder, pressurized portafilter, pod filter adapter, pod filter, coffee grounds scraper, detailed instruction manual, and one-year extended warranty.

Wonderful for my purposes...

Well, my Saeco Via Venezia shipped exactly one year ago so I thought I should share my review of the product. Out of the box, the Via Venezia is impresssibly durable and asthetically appealing. The instruction manual included with the product is abundantly helpful with more imformation that necessary (much appreciated for this beginner!). This machine took some time to learn but I suspect it would have taken exponentially more time with other machines. Learning to make good espresso will take a lot of time/effort/research anyway. This machine fits my purposes perfectly. I am a beginner home barista and have found this machine more than satisfactory. However, it would also be helpful to note that as I gain experience in the espresso world I find myself dreaming about slightly higher quality machines (like the Brevilles). Still yet, it would be hard to recommend another machine to a beginner after seeing the decent quality and price of this machine. If I could make one recommendation, buy the non-pressurized portafilter because it will help challenge you to improve your skills. The pressurized portafillter really limits you because the plethora of variables that go into pulling a shot are essentially meaningless with a pressurized portafilter. Additionally, there is a stainless steel panarello wand available that is apparently and improvement (though I haven't used it myself, yet). Overall, this is a good machine for the beginner. There a two upgrades available (non-pressurized portafilter and stainless steel steaming wand) that will improve your coffee quality so definitely keep those in mind. If you are a home barista looking for a decently priced way to make decent coffee then look no further. If you are positive that you want to advance beyond the intermediate level then consider jumping up one price bracket but if you want to take it slow then this is an excelent beginner machine for the price.

After just 8 months of use my Saeco Via Venezia just stopped working. The lights come on but the the water does not seem to boil. I read that there was a thermostat reset switch located on the inside but have not been successful at finding it. Any information would be appreciated.

They are almost the same machine. The Venezia steam wand does offer a wider range of motion so it is easier to get the milk pitcher out when you are done. I like that feature a lot.

How do I do the decalcication on the Saeco Via Venezia, Via torretta 240 - Gaggio - Bo - Itialy

mjackson ♦ Antony,

Here is a step by step guide.

Decalcifying Semi-Automatic Espresso Machines
Applies to: Single boiler machines, not Prosumer or heat exchange designs
To determine which decalcifying cleaner is recommended for your machine, consult your user’s manual or review the maintenance instructions on our website. Decalcification is not a surefire way to fix a problem stemming from scale; it is preventive maintenance intended to stop problems before they appear. You should decalcify your machine every two to four months (depending on the water hardness and frequency of use) according to the directions below.
Tools Required:
• Decalcifying cleaner (ex: Urnex Cleancaf, Durgol Swiss Espresso Descaler, Gaggia Descaler etc)
• One container that will hold the same amount of liquid as your water reservoir
• Another small container to catch water from the group head
Step-By Step Procedure:
1. Remove the machine’s water reservoir.
2. Empty all liquid from the reservoir.
3. Mix or dilute your descaler according to the directions in a separate container. It is especially important to completely dissolve powdered descalers. Typically, one dose of descaling product will make a total of 32oz of liquid descaling solution.
4. Fill the reservoir with the solution.
5. Re-attach the water reservoir to the machine.
6. Turn the machine on.
7. Set a large container underneath the steam wand to collect the decalcifying solution.
8. Set another container underneath the brew spout to collect more of the decalcifying solution.
9. Set the machine up so that hot water -NOT steam- will be dispensed from the steam wand when the steam valve is opened.
10. Start the machine so the solution begins flowing from the steam arm.
11. Allow about 2oz of solution to be dispensed from steam arm.
12. Stop the flow and close the steam valve.
13. Now press your brewing button and allow about 2oz to of solution to be dispensed form the group head.
14. Allow the machine to sit for the amount of time specified on the cleaner packaging. This is typically two to five minutes.
15. Repeat steps 10 - 14 until all of the decalcifying solution has drained into the containers.

Hi, I have a Saeco Via Venezia. The top filter screen doesn't stay screwed on anymore. The part that it screwed into seems to be broken. I used the machine without the top filter and it worked, tasted ok. What is the purpose of this screen and is it ok to not use it, at least until I can get parts replaced? Not sure what to do.

mjackson ♦ Gwen,

The screen is important. It is what allows the coffee to be brewed under pressure. You can fix it by replacing the parts and I would call our technical support team and do that. It will make your machine work the way it is supposed to.

mjackson ♦ Lean,

make sure you use the correct product such as Durgol or Urnex Cleancaf. The instructions are in your manual section 10. Or here are some detailed instructions that should help. To determine which decalcifying cleaner is recommended for your machine consult your user’s manual or the maintenance instructions on our website. Decalcify your machine every two to four months (depending on the water hardness and frequency of use) according to the directions below.

Tools Required:
• Decalcifying cleaner (ex: Urnex Cleancaf, Durgol Swiss Espresso Descaler, Gaggia Descaler etc)
• One container that will hold the same amount of liquid as your water reservoir

1) Remove the machine’s water reservoir.
2) Empty all liquid from the reservoir.
3) Mix or dilute your descaler according to the directions in a separate container. It is especially important to completely dissolve powder descalers.
4) Fill the reservoir with the solution.
5) Return the water reservoir to the machine.
6) Turn the machine on.
7) Set the large container underneath the steam wand to collect the decalcifying solution.
8) Set another small container underneath the brew spout to collect more of the decalcifying solution.
9) Set the machine up so that hot water -NOT steam- will be emitted from the steam wand when the steam valve is opened.
10) Start the machine so the solution begins flowing from the steam arm.
11) Allow about 8oz of solution to be dispensed from steam arm.
12) Stop the flow and close the steam valve.
13) Now press your brewing button and allow about 8oz to of solution to be dispensed form the group head.
14) Allow the machine to sit for the amount of time specified on the cleaner packaging.
15) Repeat steps 10 - 14 until all of the decalcifying solution has drained into the containers.
16) Remove the containers and discard the liquid that has been collected.
17) Rinse the water reservoir thoroughly and then fill it with the type of water you usually use for brewing.
18) Return the reservoir to the machine.

should i purchase a tamper with this machine? What size tamper would the portafilter accommodate?

mjackson ♦ Issac,

A good tamper will help you get a better shot more consistently out of your Saeco. The size you will need will be a 53 mm tamper. We have quite a few to choose from. I would choose one based on how it looks and price as they will all work. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any more questions.

I would like to modify my previous question about this Saeco. Can you make just one cup of espresso at a time using the ground coffee instead of the pod?

0

Vote

0

mjackson ♦ Patricia,

Thanks for your question. The Saeco can make single shots, double shots and brew pods. It can not brew double shot pods. It does do a nice job brewing single shots using a ground coffee. The nice part is the ground coffee does not have to be perfect in order to get a pretty good shot. That is because of the pressurized portafilter. Certainly this is an easy machine to use and a great starter machine to be able to brew espresso and make drink. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hello,
I have the Saeco Via Venezia and I love it!
But unfortunately I have lost the wonderful Via Venezia’s Pannarello wand attachment! Where can I pick up a new replacement??
I was looking at the Gaggia Pannarello Wand vs Saeco Pannarello Wand.. Looking at the internet photo, the Gaggia Pannarello Wand looks more like the original Via Venezia’s Pannarello wand attachment... I need some help which one do you guys recommend?

TechMilanoItalia Either would work on that machine, by the Gaggia wand is the same shape as your original. The Saeco wand can be used without the outer sleeve to achieve better microfoam, however. That would be great if you want to do latte art.
