In this video we'll be featuring the Technivorm Moccamaster coffee brewers. The best feature of this coffee brewer is that it brews out "hot" to extract the most flavor out of your drip coffee. We've tested the temperature and it brews out at 198 degrees at the start and finishes at over 200....
OverviewBack to Top
The Technivorm Thermo KB 741 was hand-crafted in the Netherlands, and uses an independent energy efficient heat exchanger that brews directly into a stainless steel- lined server. What this means is that your coffee maintains an optimal temperature between 194 and 204°F, and the machine brews a full pot in about 7 minutes. Welcome to the Technivorm Thermo KB 741, and get ready to enjoy delicate, superbly balanced drip coffee.
Exposing your coffee to a direct heat source, such as a hot plate, for too long can cause a breakdown of the flavors. After the water is heated to the correct temperature, the Technivorm Thermo KB 741 brews directly into an insulated stainless steel 1.5 liter ThermoJug server, which preserves the coffee’s flavors and aroma. It is recommended that you preheat the server with hot water before use for even better temperature retention.
The Technivorm Thermal takes an exceptional machine – the Technivorm Clubline KB 741 – and improves upon it by replacing a hot plate with a thermal carafe. There’s a reason that Technivorm has created 1 of only 2 machines that meet the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s certification standards, and that’s because its design preserves the entire spectrum of flavors in every cup. Water is heated and passes through the coffee consistently, brewing quickly and quietly.
The Technivorm Thermo was designed for simplicity, with only 2 switches. It has an on/off switch located on the base of the machine, and a switch located on the filter basket which controls the amount of water moving through the grounds. An orange light located to the right of the on/off switch illuminates when the machine is on. The filter basket switch has 3 positions: the top position is for preparing 6-10 cups, the middle is for brewing 2-5 cups, and the bottom is to pause the brewing before it is completed.
The Technivorm Thermo doesn’t look like other coffee makers, and why should it? This stainless steel and black plastic coffee maker is built to brew differently. The retro, industrial look belies its durability and strong brewing capacities. The clear water reservoir allows you to watch heated water bubbles climb to the surface before the water is dispensed through the coffee grounds. Use the side markers to ensure you’ve put in the correct amount of water.
Water Filtration and Reservoir:
The Technivorm has no water filtration system, so we recommend using pre-filtered water. It will increase the amount of time between descaling, and prevent the impurities in your tap water from making it into your coffee. The water reservoir is made of clear plastic with a black lid, and holds 40 oz of water.
To know when it’s time to descale, check the vertical transparent spyglass in the middle of the reservoir. When it has lost its transparency, it’s time to run a descaling cycle. This removes mineral deposits and build-up in the brewing components and keeps your machine running smoothly. To descale, simply fill the reservoir with 1 liter of descaling solution and switch the machine on. After descaling is complete, rinse with cold water. While you will probably only need to descale every 2 or 3 months, you should clean the Technivorm Thermo KB741 regularly with a damp cloth, and wipe dry afterwards. The ThermoJug and filter holder can be cleaned in hot, soapy water.
The Technivorm Thermo KB741 has a 10-cup capacity, using the European standard. This converts to about 40 oz of liquid, or 8 cups of coffee using the U.S. coffee standard. With plenty of coffee to go around, you have the perfect addition to brunches, desserts or any gathering with fmily or friends.
You can use a #4 cone filter in the Technivorm Thermo, and it comes with 3 paper filters to get you started.
The Technivorm Thermo 741 comes with paper filters and a coffee scoop.
