I have a 12 year old Pasquini Livia 90 expresso machine. I hadn't back flushed it in probably a year, and didn't have the Cafiza powder, and mistakenly bought Jura tablets and dissolved 2 in the tank as directed by a salesperson at SurLaTable and ran through the machine. Now I realize I should never have put any cleaner through the tank. The coffee tastes fine, the hot water is fine, but the steamer makes the milk taste soapy. Have I damaged the machine and am I being poisoned?

I am afraid I would be liable to give you an answer. You need to get the machine cleaned out. The only way to do that is to keep running hot water out of your tank not the steam. Or take it to a professional to have drained and cleaned.

I don't have a back flush on my cheap espresso machine and I'm wondering if I'm supposed to put this Cafiza powder in the water tank or just the filter pod. If in the tank, how much powder with how much water?

Michael Rosso ♦ Tim...Thank you for the posting to our Super Wall. Urnex Cafiza is designed to Back Flush an espresso machine. If you are suppose to Back Flush your machine you would put the Cafiza into the portafilter, and then follow the instructions for Back Flushing your machine. Thanks.

I just received my new La Pavoni Europiccola, and performed the "First Time Operation" (out of box) cleaning procedure, using the supplied packet of Cafiza. My question is how many rinse cycles do you recommend ... the supplied instructions only call for one rinse. My concern is that because it's Cafiza and was run through the boiler, should more than one rinse be performed? And if so, how many?

mjackson ♦ David,
The instructions are correct for the use of the product. You may feel more comfortable doing a few rinse cycles. I will normally do at least two as I just feel more comfortable.

actually, I need info on cleaning my EXPOBAR Lever. I bought this about 4-5 years ago. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Bought Cafiza as was told to clean it every month which I do. But now for some time actually, my cups come out bitter and no it isn't the coffee. What can I do to clean my machina better? Diane

Michael Rosso ♦ Diane...I am so glad you LOVE your machine. A couple of things could be making your coffee bitter. So if you don't believe it to be the coffee, and you have back flushed your group head with an empty porta filter (after using the Cafiza)to rinse it. The temperature of the water for brewing maybe be to hot. Or the amount of time you are brewing your shot is to long. Here is what I suggest you try to help you get rid of the bitterness of your coffee. Check the temperature (should be 190-200 degrees)of the water coming out of an empty porta filter. When you do this make sure the probe for the thermometer is in the center of the water flow. Also make sure that if you are frothing milk that you do it after you have drawn a shot. Or if you choice to froth your milk first you will need to cool the boiler down before your brew your shot. To cool the boiler down simply draw some water through your group head for 15 seconds or so. Secondly next time you brew a shot use a stopwatch to ensure you are not brewing for more than 30 seconds, as this will cause the coffee to be bitter. If this doesn't work or if you have any further questions please feel free to contact our technical support at 1-888-411-5282 option 3. Happy brewing.

I have the Expobar Office Pulser and was wondering how often I should backflush with Cafiza? Also, I am using the monthly replaceable filters. In this case how often should I descale and what product would you recommend? Thanks.

ToddS Patrick, for home use we recommend that you back flush with Cafiza one a month. Also please remember to hit the brew button after you remove the portafilter to give the shower screen a quick rinse after each brew. The filters do a nice job so the machine will not require a lot of descaling. If you descale it with urnex Dezcal every 6 months that will be fine.

what dilution should I use for Gaggia Titanium water tank (how many grams/teaspoons) for descaling?

TechMilanoItalia Alexander, you would not want to use Cafiza in that machine. You need Cleancaf (found here: http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/cleancaf.cfm ). Cafiza is a more harsh formula used for backflushing on the commercial style machines or for cleaning parts only.

Hi, I have a Jura-Capresso super automatic that uses Claris filters, so I don't need the descaler in the Cleancaf. My question is, can I run this cafiza through the bypass doser just as I would a cleaning tab? Thanks

TechMilanoItalia The only product that is approved by the manufacturer would be the cleaning tabs here: http://www.wholelattelove.com/Capresso/juratabs.cfm You may wish to check if the Cafiza tabs are compatible with your machine. Their number is: 800.767.3554
