Turn your kitchen into a roastery with the Hearthware i-Roast 2! The i-Roast 2’s glass roasting chamber can hold up to 1 cup of beans at a time, enough to make 24 cups of freshly roasted and brewed coffee in the comfort of your own home. A patented wind tunnel design and Thermoflector pull coffee beans into the bottom of the glass roasting pot, then push them up through the center, constantly rotating them during roasting. 2 preset roasting curves produce either light roast or dark roast coffee. If you would prefer a different roast than the presets, the i-Roast 2 also allows you to program and record up to 10 different roasting curves using a variety of temperatures, roasting times and stages. Guiding you through the roasting and programming processes is the i-Roast 2’s LCD screen; check the display screen to see which of the 5 roasting stages it is currently on, as well as a roasting time countdown and temperature readout.
To roast using one of these presets, simply press the desired preset button and the “Roast/Temp” button, and roasting begins. Preset 1 will roast at 450°F for 10:00 (stage 1). Preset 2 will roast at 455°F for 6:00 (stage 1), 400°F for 4:00 (stage 2) and 435°F for 1:30 (stage 3). To increase or decrease the preset roasting time, use the up and down arrow buttons before pressing “Roast/Temp.” You can also end roasting before the preset time by pressing the “Cool/Time” button at any time, which initiates the 4-minute cooling cycle. If you allow the roasting process to complete its programmed roasting time, the cooling cycle will begin automatically when roasting ceases. While each stage of the roasting process is fully programmable, the cooling cycle cannot be overridden.
To access the programming screen, press the “Roast/Temp” button and “Cool/Time” button at the same time. When you reach the programming menu, “Prog” will appear on the LCD. Pressing “Roast/Temp” again will bring you to the stage 1 temperature settings, indicated by “St1” on the display. The temperature for each stage can be adjusted in 5° increments between 320°F and 485°F using the up and down arrows. When you’ve reached the desired temperature, press “Cool/Time.” This causes “St1” to re-appear on the LCD and allows you to set the duration of stage 1 of the roasting process, also using the up and down arrows. Once you have completed programming the roasting time, pressing “Roast/Temp” again brings “St2” to the display and allows you to begin programming the temperature for stage 2. To program for stages 2 through 5, you just repeat the steps for programming stage 1. Although each of the 5 roasting stages can be set to run for up to 15 minutes, the total roasting time must not exceed 15 minutes. After the stages you want are set, push the “Roast/Temp” button and the “Cool/Time” button at the same time. The LCD screen will display “SET,” and your preferences are now stored.
For top-quality roasting, Hearthware has also included a chaff collector made of stainless steel and durable plastic. The chaff collector sits directly above the glass roasting pot during roasting to trap bean chaff that could possibly block airflow out of the top of the machine. To ensure proper ventilation, it’s important to rid the chaff collector of bean chaff and coffee oils using the included cleaning brush. Both the chaff collector and the roasting pot can be washed in the dishwasher or using warm soapy water, keeping your coffee tasting fresh and your machine functioning smoothly. The Hearthware i-Roast comes with a ½ cup measuring scoop and cleaning brush.
