Perfect for camping!

I use enough coffee for 9 cups, and use water for 3. Works great on a propane stove. Takes about 5 mins to heat the water before opening the coffee tap. I find it too slow on an electric stove. You can also pre-heat the water before assembling the unit and pressurizing for another few mins. This avoids heating up the grain too much before 'pulling the shot'. This unit comes in two models, one with and one without the pressure gauge. A pressure gauge would be nice, but if you use the same heat source and water volume, you can do the same with a stopwatch.

great product

I've been using this cappuccino maker for five years a few times a week -- when I'm away from my Sylvia. I use the pre-ground Lavazza or Lilly -- fine grind espresso and it works great. The best results when making either 6 or 9 "servings" but I typically use the 3 servings settings. I have a stainless carafe and thermometer and it makes perfect micro foam for lattes or cappuccinos. Its pretty fool proof and is great at the apartment, but when we take it camping in the Eurovan -- it really hits the spot on a crisp fall morning. bombproof and a great solution

Expresso when camping.

Who would have ever thought. I'm not a coffee snob, but when you can have espresso while camping! You need to practice a few times, but it gets better and better.

Stove top latte

It is what it is. It makes a respectable Latte with a little practice. It is pretty indestructible and relatively compact (4#). You need a large SS frothing pitcher to catch the coffee and frothe the milk. You are at the burner when you use this device. If you are going to use this at a remote location bring your own preground coffee. My field test was the North Shore of St. Croix - no coffee bars or espresso roast on the island.

I bought this based on the reviews for a country place we rent. I've been unable to make anything other than steamed milk so far. I preheat the water because its an electric stove. Using coffee ground for my Sylvia back home on my Rocky grinder. Really can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Anyone have any tips before I dump this and buy on of the cheap Delongis?

mjackson ♦ Peter,

You need to try a coarser grind by about 25 percent and that should help. It is not meant for a grind as fine as your Silvia. I think that will make a difference. These links may also help

Hey,

My house has just purchased one of these from a second hand store, our attempts to use it have not really worked, we need some instructions!

Thanks

mjackson ♦ Daniel,

Here are some basic instructions. I hope this helps and you may want to call La Pavoni USA to get a manual.

1. Fill the bottom boiler (base) with water up to the fill line, cold water works best.

2. Place the coffee into the brewing basket then place it over the base. Use finely ground coffee with a stovetop espresso machine for the best tasting drink.

3. Place the basket screen over the brewing basket, which presses the coffee into place.

4. Screw the collection chamber back onto the base of the espresso machine. Then place it on a medium heat on your stove.

5. When the temperature and pressure builds up, the hot water will then force through the coffee grounds into the collection chamber.

6. Once the water has been used to brew the espresso, coffee will be poured from the collection chamber into your cup

How much does this weigh and does it pack well? I would worry about breaking something if it didn't pack down nicely.

BaristaCorner Hello Kat,
The La Pavoni Stovetop Cappuccino Maker is an amazing little unit that weighs only 2 pounds 15 1/4 ounces. In terms of packing down, with the exception of removing the handle, it really does not break down any further than what you see in the picture. I am sure that you would enjoy this unit for your travels. I might also suggest that you look at the Handpresso units as well. As a camper and a sailor, I can tell you that they are very portable and brew an excellent shot!
Thank You, Eric Black

I know pretty much nothing about coffee makers as I don't ever drink coffee. However, my husband is a coffee snob and a mountain guide. Would this coffee maker be a good choice for a stovetop espresso maker for him? He doesn't really do cappacinno. Is there any titanium in this maker?

Ooops, I think I should have addressed my post to "Buzz" here instead. That question: Are the interiors (water and coffee chambers, etc.) of the Pavoni stovetop cappuccino maker stainless steel, or is it just the exterior that is stainless steel? Thanks!

TechMilanoItalia Yes, it is stainless steel all the way through.

Is the interior of the chambers that hold the water and the coffee stainless steel, or just the exterior? Thanks!
