When we receive a return, a certified technician goes through a rigorous inspection and repair process to ensure each machine is restored to perfect working order. To begin, our technicians open and inspect returned packages and create a record of any included accessories. For super automatics, the technicians will then open the machine’s service door and give the machine a preliminary visual inspection. As part of our initial check-in, our technicians also look at the exterior housing of each machine for significant blemishes, scratches or dents, and if the machine does not pass our visual inspection, the housing will be replaced.

After we’ve given the machine a thorough look, our technicians remove the top panel of each machine to check the boiler, tighten connectors, check electrical clips, Teflon lines, valves and electrical wiring for even the slightest bit of wear. To make sure that our refurbished products will perform like new, we replace commonly worn components as needed. For super automatics, this sometimes means new Teflon lines and usually an upgrade from worn out, plastic steam valves to newer, high-tech metal ones. For semi-automatics, boilers are either descaled and cleaned or replaced if needed. Other commonly serviced parts that may be replaced are 3-way solenoid valves, thermostats and pressure stats. Virtually every machine that we service has new components, so when you buy a refurbished product from us, you know you’re getting a machine that is built to last.

Our next step in the inspection and repair process is to put the machine completely back together and give it a very thorough test—and when we say thorough that’s exactly what we mean. Not only do we plug it in and go through a typical brewing session, from grinding to steaming, we also test each machine’s performance levels to make sure they meet the same standards of a new machine. For programmable machines, we’ll go a step further and verify each and every setting is working properly.

Once our technicians have replaced worn components and tested every aspect of each machine, we take them apart for a thorough cleaning. Bean hoppers, brew groups, water reservoirs, steam wand attachments, coffee spouts and other washable parts are removed, soaked and cleaned.

Finally, after every part of the machine has been inspected and reconditioned, we reassemble the entire machine again and give it a final test. Our technicians plug it in, turn it on and test out the controls before giving it the green light for resale. When the machine is ready, we package it and include a set of accessories. Refurbished super automatic comes with a cleaning brush, priming pump and a product manual. With semi-automatics, you’ll get a coffee scoop, tamper, portafilter, single and double filter baskets, cleaning brush and a product manual.
