The Café Americano was created during World War II, when the American GIs were stationed in Europe. The Americans did not like the taste of espresso and/or the amount of coffee in the cup. Americans, up to that point, had grown accustomed to the taste of coffee fresh brewed from a percolator. So, to solve this dilemma the Café Americano was created by mixing the fresh brewed espresso with hot water.
The beauty of the Café Americano is that you can custom make it. Some people say that you need to mix espresso and hot water in a one-to-one ratio, which tastes great. But, you can also experiment and create your own recipe. In this video, Darren and I will demonstrate how to make a Café Americano. Enjoy; I hope you will be inspired to brew your own Café Americano right at home.
