Before we get into the nuts and bolts on the Expobar, lets go over the differences between a high-end home machine and semi commercial machines. A high-end home machine has one boiler that operates at two temperatures, brew temperature and steam temperature. When you are done brewing your espresso and want to steam milk you have wait for the boiler to heat up to steam temperature. This will take anywhere from 20 seconds to one minute or more. When you are done steaming and want to brew another espresso, the boiler needs to be primed with water to cool it back down to brew temperature; this process takes about 30 seconds and a couple ounces of water. The semi commercial machines have a heat exchanger inside the boiler that will allow you to brew and steam at the same time, they even have a separate hot water dispenser. Operation is as easy as filling the reservoir with water and turning the main power switch on. The pump will turn on to fill the boiler with water. In about ten to fifteen minutes you can start brewing or steaming with no thoughts of priming.
During our in house test the Expobar has proven itself to be a winner. We began importing them this year and have been running one of them every day, all day since. The espressos we are making are second to none. Three parts necessary to getting a great espresso extraction (assuming the coffee and grind are good) are temperature, pressure and delivery. The brew pressure is right on at 8 to 9 bar. The temperature of the brew is one of the best I have seen, the size of the heat exchanger and group head are matched so well that the temperature of the water hitting the coffee is consistent and proper. The water is delivered through a full sized commercial brew group, so maximum surface area of coffee is exposed to the water. The group head is similar to the famed E61, with a thermal siphon that keeps water circulating through the brew group even when the machine is sitting idle. This keeps it hot all the time and does not require any blank shots for preheating. The height and length of the steam wand gives plenty of room for any size pitcher. The steam wand on the Office machines are mounted on a ball joint so they can swing in any direction. It has plenty of steam power to create any style of frothed or steamed milk that you want. The Expobar is also manufactured with a copper boiler, a three-way solenoid valve, and an electronic boiler refill control.
These machines are perfect for everyday home use and if you ever want to entertain you can blast off a five or six lattes ten times faster than any home machine. Its also great for the office, yacht club, golf club, deli or even grandmas bridge club.
The Expobar comes in three models, the Office Pulser, the Office Control and the amazing Athenea. The Office Pulser and Office control only differ in their controls, the Pulser is a semi automatic and the Control is an automatic that has four programmable coffee volumes. Both have a highly polished stainless steel exterior. As you can see the Athenea is a one of a kind. The internals and operation are the same as the Office Control; with the exterior truly being a work of art. Atheneas body is made of embossed copper and bronze that is beautifully finished with lacquer. The eagle on top is removable or can be faced in any direction. It must be connected to a water line or you can drop the water intake line into a water jug.
