Gaggia Brera Espresso Machine in Silver
Gaggia Brera Espresso Machine in Silver

My Gaggia Brera brews great coffee, but in the past month or two, about 20% o the time after the grinding cycle, the out of beans indicator light turns on and she dumps the unbrewed coffee grounds into the dispenser. I wash the brew group once per week, which includes cleaning the area above the brew group with a dry toothbrush. If I look down the bypass doser hole during grinding, I can't see any obstructions or issues that would cause the machine to dump the unbrewed coffee grounds. Any thoughts?

Gaggia Portafilter with Chrome Double-Spout
Gaggia Portafilter with Chrome Double-Spout

I need to replace my portafilter to my gaggia classic. I think the original is stainless; however, I can only find replacement in Chrome. Do you think the original is Chrome? Does it matter?

DanielCulver The original probably was chrome plated brass like all the Gaggia portafilters I've ever seen. They are very well made and should give many years of good service. If you have pealing or flaking chrome around the lugs just sand smooth. Compared to stainless steel, chrome or brass is far less abrasive to mating surfaces and it is preferred. It is best to have as much of the wear as possible on the portafilter than the group or brewhead given the cost of replacement.

Gaggia Titanium Office Super-Automatic Espresso Machine
Gaggia Titanium Office Super-Automatic Espresso Machine

My titanium is brewing incredibly slow. I've disassembled the thing, cleaned everything that could be cleaned (including the grinder) and reassembled it. It gives frequent (every 2-3 cups) ventilate errors, but ventilating doesn't help. Grind is fairly coarse. I've had it for 6 years almost - is the pump going out? Other suggestions?

Will this work with Brewtus? I like the look a little better than the one for Exobar.

Will a Caffeinated Toothbrush Replace Your Morning Brew?

The powers that be at Colgate-Palmolive Company have announced plans for a toothbrush with an integrated caffeine patch to deliver that morning jolt. Perhaps they didn’t read our blog about the FDA investigating the use of caffeine in traditionally non-caffeinated products. Or, maybe, they’re...

DanielCulver These are the ideas that make people think big corporations are evil. Getting your morning caffeine isn't just about the chemical fix, it is a ritual. Whatever way a person gets their fix, they will definitely have a favorite. That favorite way is a ritual to them and as important a part of the waking process as the chemicals involved. I choose to go all in and use a manual machine (Gaggia Achille) and get totally involved in the process, including profiling the brew. Others are happy with less, and that's great, but take away the ritual and just give them an injection, or whatever, and they won't be happy. Trust me. Colgate-Palmolive bad; Whole Latte Love good!

Jura-Capresso Impressa ENA4
Jura-Capresso Impressa ENA4

Hello, I am very interested in this machine, but have one concern - reviews of it on other Web sites (no worries, if I purchase it, it will be here; the price is right, and a friend highly recommends you) indicate that there is a issue with the steamer wand "flying off" during steaming, resulting in a big mess as well as a burn hazard when steam shoots everywhere. Yet, the reviews stating this (there are several) are all at least 1 year old.

I am wondering if this apparent design flaw has been corrected by Jura with this current model? Have you heard of this issue with this machine before?

Thank you...

I only brew 15 ounces of coffee each morning. Will the Technivorm do a good job with this small amount of coffee? Is there an adjustment for smaller amounts? I grind with your Rancilio doserless grinder which is wonderful!

Does the Gaggia Classic still come with both pressurized and un-pressurized brew baskets?

gophishin I've asked WLL customer service and received two slightly different answers, but it sounds like at a minimum you will receive a commercial double basket, a pressurized double basket, and a pod basket. This is what I received in my order, and there was also a sheet in the box which appeared to be from WLL explaining what each of the three different baskets was for.
