Gaggia Brera Espresso Machine in Silver
Gaggia Brera Espresso Machine in Silver

My Gaggia Brera brews great coffee, but in the past month or two, about 20% o the time after the grinding cycle, the out of beans indicator light turns on and she dumps the unbrewed coffee grounds into the dispenser. I wash the brew group once per week, which includes cleaning the area above the brew group with a dry toothbrush. If I look down the bypass doser hole during grinding, I can't see any obstructions or issues that would cause the machine to dump the unbrewed coffee grounds. Any thoughts?

techkathy Is the coffee you are using a dark roast or oily? Oily coffees tend to stick together and not fall into the grinding burrs. The machine will then act like it is out of coffee.

Gaggia Titanium Office Super-Automatic Espresso Machine
Gaggia Titanium Office Super-Automatic Espresso Machine

My titanium is brewing incredibly slow. I've disassembled the thing, cleaned everything that could be cleaned (including the grinder) and reassembled it. It gives frequent (every 2-3 cups) ventilate errors, but ventilating doesn't help. Grind is fairly coarse. I've had it for 6 years almost - is the pump going out? Other suggestions?

techkathy It is possible that the pump is wearing out. But you can do a quick experiment to see if the water curcuit is blocked. hit the bypass button (looks like a scoop), don't add any coffee, then hit the medium coffee button. If water flows through then its either the grind is too fine or the pump is weakening.

Hi Mjackson, Thanks for your response, what i wanted to say is i like to drink black coffee i don't like too strong or too bitter , just moderate . Dark roast in my opinion make it a way bitter i think . I like the combination of both robusta and arabica cause it make a good and nice flavor cup of coffee this is what we use in my country ( north africa) and we use Old Style Italian Coffeemaker for espresso ( looks like a presser cook , we have all the selection from 1 cups to 6 cups) , you can make an espresso ( strong ) coffee if you like it with milk or less if you like it black . Unforntunatly here in America all they have it's coffee made with arabica only !! now i'm trying Lavazza , i've thought i will give a try , I got a friend in France who drinks "lavazza matino " i couldn't find it , so today i've ordered "lavazza Gran aroma" which has 40% rbusta and 60% aabica ; we'll see , hopefully that gonna be the one . Thank you Mjackson for your time , all my regards.

mjackson ♦ I think for black coffee you will want something smooth that can be brewed as an espresso or drip. I would try the Pienoroma or the Gran Riserva ,as they are very smooth. Or why not try the Gran Filtro that is meant o be used as a drip coffee I suggest the dark for a good bold taste.

Gaggia Classic Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine
Gaggia Classic Semi-Automatic Espresso Machine

Does the Gaggia Classic still come with both pressurized and un-pressurized brew baskets?

gophishin I've asked WLL customer service and received two slightly different answers, but it sounds like at a minimum you will receive a commercial double basket, a pressurized double basket, and a pod basket. This is what I received in my order, and there was also a sheet in the box which appeared to be from WLL explaining what each of the three different baskets was for.

mjackson ♦ You will get three baskets a double shot traditional basket a single and a double pressurized basket and a plastic two way pin to use the pressurized basket properly.
