Lavazza Gold Selection Espresso
Lavazza Gold Selection Espresso

I've been trying mostly local brands (Fresh Market espresso blend, Larry's Beans espresso, Illy, etc...), and by far, this is my favorite! It's much less bitter than anything I've tried so far and has great crema. I'm using this with a Gaggia Accademia super-automatic. Highly recommend trying...

mjackson ♦ This is a great coffee and I am very satisfied with it also. Makes a great espresso as well as working great for a milk drink as well.

Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine
Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine

we've had this machine for about 1.5 months now and absolutely love it! My wife and I recently got on a coffee/espresso-kick while traveling. I've always enjoyed good coffee, but have never been a coffee snob (I can even drink instant Folgers). My wife was always a...

Michael Rosso ♦ unclejett I am glad you love you Gaggia Accademia. We have had one in our break room for over two years, and it is still running like a champ.

Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine
Gaggia Accademia Espresso Machine

I have just purchased the Accademia and love it so far, so easy to make the milk-based drinks that my wife loves. I have a couple of questions about the beans. 1) Can any non-flavored bean be used in the hopper (as long as it's not flavored or coated). Does it have to be espresso? 2) Can any bean (flavored or not) be used in the bypass, as long as it's pre-ground with a fine setting?

mjackson ♦ Jeff,
Glad you like your machine. Any bean will work. The best beans will be an espresso blend that is a light to medium roast. I would not use a dark roasted or espresso roast. We have lots of great espresso that are not dark or oily such as Lavazza coffee. In the bypass same thing but finely ground. I hope this helps. Here is a good article to read. http://www.wholelattelove.com/articles/espresso_beanroastbeverage.cfm
