Ghirardelli Sauce Pump
Ghirardelli Sauce Pump

This pump is very tempermental. Mine has come apart and I can't get the bottom third out of the bottle but I have found that if you press on the bottom of the syrup bottle when the pump is screwed in, that it will work for awhile.

Antica Nessun Dorma Decaf Ground Espresso
Antica Nessun Dorma Decaf Ground Espresso

Oh my gosh this coffee is good! It is rich, smooth and almost velvety. I forget that I'm drinking decaf. It's not listed under the ground decafs and I stumbled upon it when I accidentally went to all ground espressos. It's a little pricier than the Lavazzo I've been drinking and I'm not sure I...

Monin O'free Syrup
Monin O'free Syrup

I love the way this makes my coffee taste and absolutely love that it has no sugar or calories. You don't have to sacrifice flavor for calories and it doesn't have the aftertaste I've seen with other syrups. I made a Caramel Macchiato this morning and I think it was better than my neighborhood...

TNmom asked a question...
at 11-28-2012 1:26pm

I just bought a Gaggia Academia and while I love the coffee it brews and the ease of brewing it, I can't get it to fill the coffee cup more than half full. Has anyone else had this problem?

A A Virginia, Congrats on your Accademia! It's a great machine that we have been using in our break room here from some time now. To answer your question, you can change the amount of water that is drawn through the coffee within the "Drink" menu on the display. By hitting the button under the Cup icon, you can access the menu's to modify not just the volume of water (listed as "Coffee Length"), but also the default strength of the coffee, the pre-infusion time, and the temperature of the coffee. You can also press the button for the drink you would like two times, and the Accademia will automatically run two complete brew cycles (only works for the left side, Coffee buttons). I hope this helps!

A A Also, after dwelling on your question some more... In the center of the spout there is a dial that you can adjust to change how quickly the water extracts through your coffee. If it is tuned to the slowest extraction, it will limit how much will end up in your cup. Try increasing the flow a little, and let me know how it goes!

TNmom I maximized the water level from the menu and adjusted the SBS dial on the front. It got the coffee level in the cup to almost 3/4 of the cup but the coffee tastes very weak. It was much stronger/better when I had the SBS dial adjusted all the way down that minimized water flow and then added hot water from the wand after the coffee was brewed. That doesn't seem like that extra step should be necessary. I should add that I am using the decaf bypass on my coffee but my husband also said that his regular coffee was also a little weaker. Mine was MUCH weaker.

TNmom I adjusted the pre-infusion time to maximum and that seems to have corrected the weakness! Yay! Great cup of coffee!

A A I am so glad to hear that you are pleased with your coffee now! One of the great things about the machine is how many options it gives you to fine tune your drinks. It really has something for everybody!
