Gaggia Baby Twin
Gaggia Baby Twin

Hi,

I've had a Gaggia Espresso Pure and a Capresso Infinity grinder for the last year and a half that I am very happy with. Basically I use it just for brewing shots, I don't use the wand, I have no problem with it's capacity or time to warm up. Purely from a shot standpoint, is this going to give me a better shot? Right now I feel my Gaggia produces a shot better that all but one local cafe (I use the same bean, I just don't have the $3K grinder and $12K La Marzocco). The only reason I'd want to give up the Pure is to bequeath it to a poor college student and get a better looking machine.

Thanks!

mjackson ♦ Greg,

You will get a better shot out of the twin. The design of the double boiler gives this machine a better temperature profile when brewing the shot. It produces more of a flat line through the brewing process at the correct temperature. You must have a great grinder or get your coffee ground correctly to get such great results. You are also correct about the Gaggia and its ability to produce a great shot. It can do this and we love to hear about this so thanks. Let us know what you think about the Twin.

Bodum Eileen Coffee Press
Bodum Eileen Coffee Press

Hi, I'm looking at a nicer FP for my wife. The cheaper Bodum's have a plastic piece that holds the screen in place. When this gets hot, it expands and slips, frustrating! Does this have all metal pieces for the plunging unit?

Thanks!

techkathy Greg,
The Bodum Eileen does have all metal components on the plunger. The metal spring holds the filter screen tight to the edge of the carafe.

Gaggia Espresso Pure Espresso Machine
Gaggia Espresso Pure Espresso Machine

I love having Alterra Coffee Roasters here in town, what a wonderful treat to have a local "chain" of cafes so dedicated to making the best espresso. It's the best, Jerry, the best! However, time (did I wake up in?), parking, and once you get there, long lines can hamper the ability to get your...
