I have had this machine for a few weeks now and it has impressed everyone in the family. It makes create coffees and cappuccinos with no effort.
It takes a little getting use to the preset coffee sizes but once you figure out that the 2 cup buttons just double the water for the fixed sizes...

what settings do you use for doing lattes with this machine? How can I get more coffee, 8 oz, from the preset settings?

Customizing the “my coffee” quantity
The appliance is set by default to automatically deliver 1 fl oz./ 30 ml of “my coffee”.
To modify this quantity, proceed as follows:
1. Place a cup under the coffee spouts (fig. 11).
2. Turn the selection knob until “MY COFFEE” is displayed.
3. Keep the button (fig. 8) pressed until the message “1 MY COFFEE Program quantity” is displayed and coffee delivery begins. Release the button.
4. As soon as the coffee in the cup reaches the required level, press the button (fig. 8)again.
The quantity of coffee in the cup has now been programmed.

I have done some checking and your method will only get to a maximum of 6 oz's. However, if you select the 2 cup mode the machine appears to double only the liquid. It does not grind any additional coffee. So if you selct any of the presets buttons the default liquid value gets multiplied by two. So in my instance I selct the extra long coffee, which has a default value of 4 oz and then by pressing the 2 cups button I get a 8 oz coffee.

Can I make macchiatto's with this machine? It can obviously make caps and lattes automatically but I'm wondering if it can make macchiattos too?

A A Phil: By definition, a Macchiato (Marked Espresso) is Espresso with a small amount of steamed/frothed milk. Any super automatic machine is capable of doing such, however the ECAM23450 does not have a dedicated button to do so. If you are looking for a machine that gives a quality Macchiato with the press of a button, then the Gaggia Accademia is a great choice. It is not that large and thanks for catching that. It is 13.5 inches tall. It is also about 17 inches deep and about 9.5 inches wide. I will get that corrected on the website.
