In 1989 an AP reporter claimed: “…Seattlites drink more espresso than water.” 23 years later Seattle Times news librarian Gene Balk decided to check out the claim and found: Seattleites actually do prefer espresso to bottled water. Out of the 96 metropolitan areas that Gene studied, from New York to Los Angeles, from Toledo to Tucson, there is only one place in the United States where more people drink espresso than bottled water.
