Description

The Gaggia Platinum Vision uses a Rapid Steam boiler system, utilizing a stainless steel boiler so you can switch back and forth between brewing and steaming in mere moments, without lengthy cool down or heat up time in between. This system provides the power behind each shot of espresso, fine tuning and perfecting the temperature. As for the water pressure, the Gaggia Platinum Vision provides a maximum of 15 bars of pressure, more than what you’ll need to pull each shot. Because the Gagg

What does the Espresso Plus dial actually change to adjust the strength of the shot? Dosage and the amount of water is changed in the menu. Does espresso Plus change the brew time? Thanks!

techkathy The dial restricts the flow of water through the coffee. It slows the flow of the coffee imitating a tighter tamp on a semi-automatic machine.

My Gaggia Platinum Vision is about 2 years old. Now every time I try to make a cup of coffee the first cup does not come out. Instead the water comes out the steam wand. Then subsequent cups of coffee work. Any ideas?

techkathy Andrea - have you tried descaling the machine? The solenoid may be sticking on the first cup. If descaling doesn't help, I would recommend having the machine come in for a repair.

Recently, my Gaggia Platinum Vision seems to have given up the ghost. The machine will not make coffee, or even advance to the main menu. Upon cycling the power, I can hear a couple of clicking / clunking noises (which are louder if I turn the steam knob on), then the message "dispensing failed" flashes on the screen, followed by the wrench and "restart to solve problem" message. Restarting does nothing but repeat that cycle. Also, I get this message whether I have the brew group inserted, or not (trying to troubleshoot). I have maintained the machine per instructions, have lubricated the brew group and checked for free movement, cleaned the grinder, brew head, and descaled within a couple weeks. The machine seemed to be working fine until this problem occurred. Any chance this is user serviceable? I love fixing things myself.

Sanfam ♦ Kevin, Thank you for your message. Unfortunately, this isn't something with a terribly straightforward solution. The repeated "clicking/clunking" sound typically indicates that the water flow actuators are not fully triggering, suggesting that problem could be electrical, either stemming from a bad CPU or a bad power board. In any case, this is something that could conceivably be undertaken, wouldn't be easy and could easily become expensive and/or prove futile. While I'm often the first to suggest opening things up and poking around, this is a case where a trained technician is best able to sort things out. Given the problem, I would advise sending this machine in for service at this time.

We have had our Platinum Vision for about 6 months and it's worked perfectly. This morning I rinsed out the drip tray and rinsed the brew group thoroughly (did not use any detergent to clean). Now the machine will not brew - it grinds the beans and when it tries to dispense the espresso, it discards it and gives me the message "Prime Water Circuit". I have run a full tank of water through the steam knob and still gives me this massage. Any easy tips here or should I contact the repair center?

Sanfam ♦ A quick and simple troubleshooting step you could take is to spin the E-Plus knob between its left and right full-stops a few times, then leave it as the left stop. When the machine powers on, you can try switching it to pre-ground mode and brewing a shot without putting any grounds into the bypass doser. If you can brew a "blank shot" like this, then try again with ground coffee and you should be all set. If not, I'd suggest giving our Technical Support department a call at 888-411-5282, Option 3.

Three questions:
1. How long has this product been on the market? Wondering about the longevity of the touch screen?
2. Why only three grind settings - I am concerned I will not be able to 'dial in' the proper grind setting having on three grind settings. Does it have ceramic burrs?
3. What is the warranty and how has the repair history been, especially as against the Gaggia Titanium whcih is the machine I've always wanted? Why pay $300 more?

Thank you,
Brad

mjackson ♦ Brad, Great questions and thanks. The machine has been out for over three years. It does have ceramic burrs and makes a much better shot then the models with metal burrs. It comes with a two year warranty. First year parts and labors, 2nd year parts. It has performed very well and the repair rate has been good. We have not seen a lot of problems.

Will the Platinum Vision prime the water circuit without beans in the hopper?

mjackson ♦ It is not necessary to do each time. The best way to prime the water circuit is to activate the hot water. This will activate the pump and get water going through the circuit.

Hey there. I'm torn between the Gaggia platinum vision and the Saeco exprelia. I know the Saeco will be faster, but is quality of espresso the same? I generally like my espresso without milk so I'm all about the taste!

mjackson ♦ Essie,
Get the Gaggia as it has the ability to make a stronger coffee beacuse at maximum dose it allows you to put 10.5 grams of coffee in each cup as the Saeco will only be able to put 7 grams in at maximum dose. So if your about the taste I would get the Gaggia.

My Platinum Vision is over 2 years old and has twice been serviced for a leaking steam wand. The wand still leaks and I now have an additional problem with an over spill of ground beans that fall into the drip try after I brew espresso. This has become a huge waste of expensive beans. Even though we have sent the unit to an authorized repair shop in Arthur Ave of the Bronx, I'm not sure what to do next. Do you have any suggestions?? Thank You.

Assuming 4 espresso cups - what size of cup will the cup warmer on top hold? Thank you!

mjackson ♦ Greg,

It will fit 4 small espresso cups the 3 ounce size. Of course the larger the cup the less it will fit. I hope this helps and also a taller cup may not fit under your counter. You may want to keep that in mind.

I am interested in the Gaggia Platinum Vision Espresso Machine. My concern is will the machine handle Starbucks espresso beans correctly? I understand the beans are oily and I want to insure that this will not be a problem for the espresso machine. I plan on using Starbucks espresso beans exclusively. Thanks in advance for your response. If this a problem, can you recommend another espresso machine? Thanks again.

mjackson ♦ Bill,

I can and do recommend the Gaggia Platinum for exactly the reasons you are thinking about using the machine for. It works well with dark oily beans and also happens to make an excellent espresso. It is easy to use and you will be amazed at the quality of the espresso. The Gaggia is a very good machine. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any questions.
