I've had my platinum vogue for about a year. I have recently noticed that a fair amount of water is leaking out of the steam wand during the brew cycle. Enough to fill up the drip tray. The steam knob is in the off position.. Was wondering if this is a maintenance issue?

techkathy The leaking can sometimes be from build up on the steam valve. Regular descaling can prevent any mineral deposits from building up in the machine. If a descaling cycle does not clear up the issue I would recommend sending the machine in for a repair.

Excellent machine and well worth the price. I totally agree with the other reviewers that say for the price, it is the most "bang for the buck."
This is my second Super-Automatic (1st was another Gaggia). Easy to clean, easy to use. If you can check that the water is full, waste is empty, and...

It seems like without the bypass doser you can't run descaler or a hot water rinse through the brew head. This seems like it would be an issue?

Tracys ♦ This is a nice machine. No you cant run a blank shot but it does brew a good hot shot. You can still descale using the hot water function. It is not really a big issue. You may want to look at the Gaggia Brera if you want those features with a by pass doser. I hope this helps.

I'm on the fence between this unit and the Jura-Capresso ENA4 (currently both on sale for $699). I'm an Americano drinker, my S.O. is a latte drinker, so those would be the two primary drinks being brewed. I like the swivel and ceramic burr on the Gaggia, and the look and frother on the Jura. Wondering if there's really any appreciable difference between the two, or if they are so similar that either way is good. Thanks!

mjackson ♦ Phil,
There are some differences. The Gaggia will brew a better espresso, due to the ceramic burrs and a different designed brew group. The Jura will make a stronger coffee as it will put up to 16 grams of coffee into each drink. The Gaggia will do 10.5 grams at most. Steaming will be about equal. I do like the Gaggia more

HI I have a gaggia Platinum Vogue and the Coffee grounds drawer
and descaling LEDs are Blinking alternately. I have followed the reset procedure and it will not reset.
It started when i was doing a descale and i interrupted the descale process by turning the machine off.
Is there anything i can do to get this £600 machine to work again? Help!!

mjackson ♦ Giovanni,

You need to start and complete the descaling cycle. It is the only way to fix your problem. If you cant call Gaggia support in the UK ans see if you can reset the machine.

Over the past few months, our machine is requiring us to flush the steam wand with the drop icon repeatedly. The exclamation point will blink quickly. Some times we have to completely flush it 2 or 3 times before we get a full cup of coffee. Is there something else we can do or need to fix? Even after a thorough cleaning and descaling, the machine continues to give us the same notification. Thanks!

It is hard fro me to say what is exactly going on, the best thing to do is call our technical department as they will be able to help.

Is it possible to disassemble the steam wand, including the inner wand?
Thanks

mjackson ♦ Miriam,You can take it apart but only the plastic pannarello part. It is easy to do and I will email you instructions so you can see what I mean. It is a good idea to also wipe it down after every use as well/ You may also want to blast some steam out of it after steaming milk to help keep it clean. This should help you keep it clean and operational.

We are replacing a Gaggia Syncrony Compact. On that unit, we can completely configure the "default" amount of water that is dispensed (by teaching the unit one time, by brewing and holding down the button until our desired amount has been dispensed). After that "teaching" step, whenever you push the button you will get that same amount.

We liked having the "coffee" button configured to dispense about 12 oz of water to a single shot.

The Vogue seems to have less configurability in this regard. Is there any way to approximate or duplicate a setting for a 12 ounce cup?

Thanks.

mjackson ♦ John,

It does have many of the same features. You can adjust the strength, the cup size and also the fineness of the grind. It is made to do up to an 8 ounce cup of coffee. That seems to taste just right. You could dial it in to do a 6 ounce cup of coffee and then press it twice. It also does not have a bypass doser. It does make an exceptional espresso and I do think you will enjoy the brew and the quiet grind. let us know if you have any questions.

So many to choose from - which Gaggia would be your highest recommended machine for a family that pulls 8 - 10 shots per day on average: Titanium, Brera, or Platinum Vogue? Any major differences?

Michael Rosso ♦ Greg...Thanks for your interest in the Gaggia espresso machines. I would recommend the Gaggia Titanium if you are going to make a lot milk based drinks at one time rather than just shots of espresso, because the Titanium has dual boilers. If you are drinking mainly espresso or a few milk based drinks at one time I would choose the Platinum. The platinum will grind a bit quieter because it has ceramic burrs. Thanks.

What constitutes a "Refurbished" machine? Thank you very much for your help!

0

Michael Rosso ♦ Kristina...A refurbished machine is a machine that is returned to us through our Buyers Remorse program. We allow customers to return machines to us in Like New condition within 30 days from when they receive it for a variety of reasons (not what I really wanted, wrong color, to hard for me to work, looking for more a challenge, etc. etc.). We go through the machines to check and clean them and then the Service Manager signs off on them. Thanks.
