Robin Fair Is this model being discontinued? Is it as good or better than the Gaggia Titanium??
1:36 PM 7-19-10
Tech Milano The Platinum Vision is still a current model. It is better than the Titanium in that it is a newer model with some newer features like the ceramic burr grinder (to retain more flavor in the coffee), a fully interactive touchscreen (for ease of use and customization), and the Milk Island for much easier milk frothing. These are just a few of the differences. Contact our expert Sales Team at 888.411.5282 option '1' for more info! =)

Ami Koret Hi Guys, I bought a new Gaggia Platinum Vision from you a couple of months ago, and the display is telling me to descale already. We brew only a couple of cappuccinos a day, is it possible I need to descale so soon? I need instructions on how to descale and which product to use. Thanks Ami Koret Houston, Texas

Todd Salzman Hi Ami, We can take care of both of these issues. The Platinum's are known for delivering a very rich crema. First make sure you have good quality fresh coffee beans. If your beans are not good then you won't get a good coffee. Next make sure the grinder is set to its finest setting and the dial on the front of the machine that affects the coffee flow is all the way to the right, for espresso. See the instructions before you make any changes to the grind setting. This should help.

Ami Koret Hi Todd, Thanks for your help. Moission accomplished, the Platinum Vision has been descaled. Now to the new issues, the espresso I brew has very little , if none, of schiuma on top. On top of that, the Milk Island is not working properly anymore. We only have the machine for 2 months. It heats the milk, but it does not froth it. We tried cleaning all the various openings and valves and tried different milks, same results. I get much better results with the small Nespresso that I bought from you.

Todd Salzman Hi Ami, in the program section of the machine you can set the water hardness level.Your machine came with a water hardness test strip. The machine compares this level to the amount of use the machine has received and then tells you when it is time to descale. You can use the Cleancaf by Urnex http://www.wholelattelove.com/Urnex/cleancaf.cfm The instructions are clear on how to run the descale process and if you are missing them let me know and I can e mail you a PDF. Let me know anytime I can assist. FYI, the Platinum Gaggia machines brew an amazing espresso. It is the best brewing super auto currently on the market.

Paul Blumenthal I need to send my Platinum vision to you and already have an RA number. How do a DRAIN it prior to shipment?
12:09 AM 5-1-10
Tracy Schafer Hi Paul, Here are the instructions: # Read and understand these instructions entirely before attempting to drain your boiler. Consult our Tech department before continuing. # Caution! Machine must be heated to steam temperature to properly drain the boiler. Machine and water are at scalding temperatures! # With the machine plugged in and the main power switch on, take the proper steps to heat your machine to steam temperature. a. If you are uncertain how to complete this step, refer to the manufacture’s instruction manual. b. This step may slightly differ for each machine. # Place a tall-sided container that can hold 20oz. under the steam wand. a. Please use a container that will not conduct heat, it will get hot and may burn on contact. Try using a heavy plastic container, or preferably, a container with a handle. # When the machine has reached steam temperature, open the steam valve. Beware of splashing hot water and steam!! # While the machine is steaming, remove the water reservoir. # When the machine no longer emits steam or water, close the steam valve. # Turn off the steam button and main power switch. Your machine’s boiler is now drained.

Nathan Quam Do you have any preferred settings for what you think makes the perfect Italian espresso or coffee on this machine?
8:59 PM 4-14-10
Tech Milano You want to set the shot size to between 1.75 and 2.25 oz. Set the 'Aroma' to Medium. Give that a try. It definitely depends on personal taste, though. But that should give you a good starting point.

Richard Heggie How good a machine is this vs a regular semi automatic or the Jura machines? Quality of coffee and simplicity of use.
7:54 AM 3-22-10
Tech Milano The Platinum Vision is certainly on par with the Jura machines as far as brew quality. Semi-automatics have the advantage of allowing you to be a lot more involved with the process (and thus enable a lot more variation to draw out more subtle flavor notes in your espresso). The downside would be more clean-up and having a separate grinder. If you don't mind those things, the Semi-Auto is the way to go.

Gregory Haney Hi - Two questions: (1) Is the Vision about to be discontinued/replaced by a new model? (2) Is it possible to use the water reservoir without the filter? We put filtered water into the reservoir already and it looks like the filter takes up a fair amount of space in there. Thanks.
9:34 PM 2-23-10
Tech Milano The Platinum Vision is still a current model and is going to be around for a good while yet. The filter in the water reservoir is not necessary for the operation of the machine, it is just there to give you better-tasting water (and thus better-tasting coffee). If you are using filtered water, then you can run it without that.

John Myers Can the Platinum Vision be plumbed into a water line? If not do you carry any machines that can be? Thanks.
8:15 PM 2-19-10
Todd Salzman Hi John, the Vision can not be plumed. The Saeco Royal Coffee Bar and the Expobar Brewtus III R are the only machines that can be.

Vincent O'Connor Hello. I have a Gaggia Vision which I really like...BUT the coffee it produces isn't hot enough. I have the temperature adjusted to the maximum setting but the coffee is still not hot enough. Is it possible to make software, physical adjustment to the internals of the machine, so that it produces a hotter beverage ? Many thanks Vincent
4:41 PM 1-13-10
Todd Salzman Hi Vincent, the Gaggia Vision brews at a nice hot temperature. If it brewed at to low a temperature the taste of the coffee would be sour. As with all super automatic machines we highly recommend that you preheat your cups first. You can do this by running hot water through the steam wand into the cup or with hot water from the sink. If the machine has been sitting for a while it is good to preheat the brew group by running what we call a blank shot before you brew. You do this by acting like you are going to brew using the bypass dosser (pre ground coffee area) but don't put any coffee in it so that it just runs hot water through it.

Michael Brown Hi. I am considering Gaggia Platinum Vision machine. Is there any other machines I should consider, regardless of cost/price? Or is this machine as good as it gets? According to Coffeegeek.com, this is the one machine from the super automatic category, that had a decent review. Any advise is appreciated. Thank you Mike

Tracy Schafer Looks like you have really done your research. Yes, the Gaggia Platinum Vision is a very popular machine. If you are looking for great tasting thick and creamy espresso, then you found the right series to look at. Gaggia really took their time trying to perfect a super automatic machine to perform as good as a high end semi automatic machine with a stand alone high quality grinder. Between the ceramic flat burr grinder and the e plaus system allowing you to slow down or speed up the flow of your shots, you won't be able to tell the difference between a super and a semi anymore.

Allen Hahn We just purchased a Gaggia Platinum Vision. Started using it today (12/24/09). When we allow it to grind the beans, the coffee is very good. However, we tried to bypass this and brew decaf espresso. The process is cumbersome and the quality of the coffee is close to awful. It's quite weak. We tried adjusting the volume of the coffee being brewed. There comes a point where it won't brew the coffee because the volume selected is too low although, being an automatic machine, one would think it would display that the volume selected was insufficient, but it doesn't do that. We've gone through about half a bag of ground decaf espresso so far and can't seem to improve the taste or strength. So, are we doing something wrong I wonder? We need your help. I'd be quite upset if we had to return the machine because it couldn't brew a decent cup of coffee using the pre-ground bypass. Allen Hahn
7:09 PM 12-24-09
Todd Salzman Hi Allen, the brewing process when using the bypass dosser is the same as when the machine is grinding. So the problem you are having is 100% related to the grind and quality of the coffee you are using. Use the same icon on the touch screen to control the quantity of the liquid coffee and use one scoop of good quality and properly ground decaf and you should be all set.
