I just got back from 3 weeks vacation and fired up the Machine. I got an error "out of Service [4]", removed the brew group and everything looks and moves fine. The manual was pretty worthless on this, do you know what the issue is and how to fix it, the unit is just 6 months old? Cannot find anything on the web. Thanks, Frank.

Here is what it means. Error 4 means Brew unit blocked. See if you can remove and replace the brew unit easily. Make sure you give it a good slam back into place.

Please let us know if you need further assistance.

For descaling, can we use the Durgol liquid-or does it have to be your proprietary tablet?

You can use the durgol and it actually works well. They are all going to be a citrus based descaler and will do the job.

I just ran the descaling cycle. Now I can program the coffee maker to use Long Coffee. I read the instrection booklet and followed the instructions. Is there something I could be missing?

mjackson ♦ Tod,

You may want to try descaling again. If it had been a long time since your last descaling then you may have got some scale stuck in the device that measures water. IF so it will throw off your volumes. So try running it again as it may free up the scale stuck in the flowmeter. It may work or if not call our technical department for support.

We have had a Gaggia Syncrony for several years and my husband is requesting an updated replacement for Father's Day. It appears the Syncrony is no longer manufactured and I was wondering if you could give me some alternative ideas. I understand the Saeco Vienna Plus is close, but it appears that it does not have a bypass doser.

Thank you -- Denise Erhard

Mike Russo ♦ Denise...Thank you for your interest in the Gaggia Platinum Swing. The Gaggia Syncrony has been replaced by the Gaggia Titanium. Either the Gaggia Platinum or the Gaggia Titanium would be a great choice to replace you well used and faithful Gagggia Syncrony. I hope this information helps, however if you have more questions please contact us directly at 1-888-411-5282 option 1. Thanks.

I am considering the Gaggia Platinum Swing. From looking over your website describing this machine, I understand it contains a water purification filter which must be changed occasionally. Our kitchen has a reverse osmosis water filtration system, so the water I would be using is already filtered. Does that mean I can use the Gaggia Platinum Swing without changing the filter?

Thanks -

Mike Russo ♦ Kathy...Thank you for your interest in the Gaggia Platinum Swing. Using the filter in the water reservoir is optional, and you would not need to use it when using RO water. Thanks

I was wondering for how long the sale on this product is going to continue? Thank you in advance for your answer.

We will honor the price for at least two weeks. It should continue for a while. The good thing is we always have sales and Gaggia is usually a featured item. It is a great machien and brews an amazing espresso.

Just got a Platinum Swing... gotta question about the crema... How do I get a thicker and "creamier" crema on the espresso?

mjackson ♦ J,
There is a few ways to adjust the machien to get a better Crema. Use good beans like Lavazza, set the grinder at the finest setting make sure you follow the instructions. Set the grinder while it is running. Then set the dose at maximum. You want to brew a little over 2 ounces in order top get the best tasting shot. It should taste great at these settings. If you are not getting Crema at this point I would suggest seeing about different beans or call us for some help.

The glass carafe for my milk island cracked and is unusable. Is there a way to purchase just the carafe without replacing the whole milk island?

how do I make my coffee thicker, like I get at a professional coffee bar? The flavor is fine, but the coffee is thin, even though the crema is fine.

mjackson ♦ Ian,

There are many things to adjust all within keeping in mind the limitations of the machine. You should set the grind at the finest setting, Have the strength at maximum and for an espresso only brew about 1.75 - 2 ounces at max. If you do this you should get a good espresso. If you brew more than that you will be getting away from brewing an espresso and really be making more like a regular cup of coffee. The maximum dose is 10.5 grams and that will let you make a 2 oz espresso that will taste right. Try changing your settings and let us know how it works out.

What is the difference (other then the display) between the Gaggias Vogue, Swing and swing up??
Thank you, Frank

mjackson ♦ Frank,

There are some differences as you can imagine. The vogue has some great features such as ceramic burrs in the grinder. It will brew a great espresso as they all will. It does not have a bypass feature so you can only brew what is in the hopper. The Swing models have rapid steam, temperature control, and more programming features well such as also setting the menu language, energy saving mode, water hardness, and rinsing cycle. The swing up also has a motorized drip tray that can move up and down. I hope this helps and let us know if you have any questions.
